A weekend on the coast. Great memories were made!

bbro 01-14-2008 02:07 PM

Okay, I know I just posted on Friday, but something else good happened! A second person at work asked me if I was losing weight. When I told her yes, she commented on how good I look!

AND I just had a delicious taco salad for lunch :D

Great, here's the thread!

Cloud 01-17-2008 09:48 AM

"extra" paycheck this month!

regular.joe 01-17-2008 09:51 AM

That's great Cloud. I'd say "spend it wisely", but meh, coffins don't have saddle bags....

LabRat 01-17-2008 09:52 AM

Snow baby!
Snow baby!
Sssnnnoooooooow!

Yessssss!

HungLikeJesus 01-17-2008 11:00 AM

LR, I hear you got six inches last night.

monster 01-17-2008 11:27 AM

Sundae 01-18-2008 10:40 AM

I did my first day volunteering at the Save the Children charity shop yesterday from 10.00-18.00. My first work since I finished working in the shop last July.

It went well and I'm back in there tomorrow from 10.00-16.00 and actually quite looking forward to it.

I'm going to lie-in on Sundays and Tuesdays and actually feel there is a difference!

monster 01-18-2008 11:14 AM

That's great, SG :D

Shawnee123 01-18-2008 11:48 AM

Usually I"m bitching, so:

What's making me happy today:
1) I organized my office yesterday and got ready for new year set-up and for the first time in 4 years I am not woefully behind due to a million setbacks (knocking on wood.)

2) Our boss is taking us to lunch for going way above and beyond for spring term.

3) It's Friday

4) We're closed Monday: 3 day weekend!

DanaC 01-19-2008 12:19 PM

Sundae that's totally cool! I hope you are as proud of yourself as we all are of you. It's a great step back out into the world; volunteering was how I got back into things after a longish spell on incapacity benefit. Not to mention it's genuinely useful: I am quietly convinced our country would grind to a juddering halt if all the voluntary workers were to down tools one day :P

Well done you. And yeah, those lie-ins will mean a lot more now :)

What's making me happy is that in about two hours I am off to a family get-together. It's my cousin's 40th and she's decided to have a party. Apart from two cousins (and their parnters + kids) who upped sticks and moved to kiwi-land a couple of years back, the whole clan'll be there. Haven't seen most of 'em in years, some haven't seen for a decade and a half!

Am lookin forward to catchin up, am lookin forward to seein our Rachie's 'Bump' (still freaks me out my baby cuz is spawning already!) and...D's comin with me :) Bless him that's a brave move...he's met my mum and my bro before (tho before we were together) but he's about to meet the whole clan en masse :P

Spoke to the birthday girl on facebook and she was in the middle of making about 400 sandwiches to add to the buffet lol

*smiles* off to have a bath and get ready now.

HungLikeJesus 01-22-2008 06:09 PM

My wife and I had dinner last Friday night with Case, mac_tire, and their amazingly-well behaved son.

Also, I had a green belt test Saturday morning, which I passed.

kerosene 01-22-2008 06:14 PM

Congratulations!

And thank you :)

Aliantha 01-22-2008 06:16 PM

I'm going to pick my kids up from my Dad's place. They've been there for over a week now. I miss them a lot.

BigV 01-23-2008 05:30 PM

Anticipation of Paradise

This place does get a lot of snow. Notice in this time lapse view the parking lot is surrounded by small trees, which disappear by the end of the shot.

Sundae 01-25-2008 08:16 AM

I've just found somewhere that's willing to pay me £100 for my blood!
Wooohooooo!

Well, I'm not 100% sure yet, but I have registered and interest, and am now spending it in my head.

AND one of the women in my group came in with a BIG bag of bath stuff for me today. She told me earlier in the week that she'd put some things aside for me - I only bath and she only showers, but I had no idea of the amount and quality. So not only have I oodles of luxury baths ahead, but I am really flattered she thought of me, and thought enough of me to haul it in.

Poor old HM, he'll start forgetting what the bathroom looks like now ;)

*cough* oh yes how is all that money stuff going, SG? [/nastydownerperson]

ZenGum 01-25-2008 10:43 AM

I'm more concerned with just how much blood they want for that kind of money, and how they plan to get it.

Cloud 01-25-2008 10:58 AM

I finished my advanced paralegal certification course in trial prep. finally. yay!

Perhaps its actually plasma--that hurts a lot more to donate, and takes a little longer, so they pay more for it--though they don't pay nearly as much for it around here. On the other hand, they pay nothing at all for regular blood donation here, except a free cookie when you're done.

It's Friday, the sun is out and the gang is taking in a movie tonight.

I finally got the check from my brother that he is going to send me every month to pay back a loan.

Shawnee123 01-25-2008 04:01 PM

The Homeless Guy was to get his first paycheck today! My (financial) future's so bright, I gotta wear, gauze or something.

What?! You're waaaayyyy deep in debt to banks, paying interest and stuff, and someone owes you money? I bet he's not paying you interest, is he? Since you could use this capital to reduce your debt, you are effectively paying interest on HIS loan. I wonder, how much has this cost you over the lifetime of the loan?
Whatever, he's you're brother and there might be good reasons behind this, but nevertheless, try to get this one paid back promptly.

bbro 01-25-2008 05:37 PM

It's not that much money and he's my freakin brother - I'm not going to charge him interest. I loaned him the money before I was in over my head.

xoxoxoBruce 01-25-2008 05:40 PM

But it will help you get out of debt, which is exciting.

Um... what are you wearing?

zippyt 01-25-2008 06:06 PM

for this last week I have been dealing with a VERRRRRRY difficult IT guy ,

It's great like this: Since you have been making this very difficult and my life generally screwed up......Let's let you deal with the whole thing all by yourself! Love it!! Yeah!

Clodfobble 01-27-2008 05:34 PM

Minifob got his first real haircut today.

See, his hair grows like fucking kudzu. We're talking a full inch a month, maybe more. It's no surprise, really; both my husband and I have relatively fast-growing hair, but I can get away with letting mine go for longer since I'm a chick, and Mr. Clod is capable of sitting still in a chair for a few minutes every month to get his hair cut. Minifob, not so much.

Up to this point I have been trimming his mop myself, but meeting with decreasing levels of success. I do have the skills to give a decent boys' cut, but only if he freaking holds still. I used to trap him in the bathtub so that I could just take it slow, one snip at a time while he scuttled around, but nowadays he can easily climb out and run away. The last time, I got impatient and ended up making a couple of really bad snips, and his hair looked downright retarded. So I decided to at least try a professional, despite having very low expectations.

This place was just awesome. The seats for the youngest kids have full harness seat belts, so he couldn't get away. And even though he basically cried and thrashed the whole time, the woman was like lightning, 2-3 minutes tops, and the final cut looks really damn good. His ass is going back there in another 4 weeks, you can bet on it.

elSicomoro 01-27-2008 05:43 PM

I bought Endless Ocean for the Wii today...I'll play it tonight.

It's raining in Arizona. All last night and all day today.

In other places your mama tells you to come in out of the rain.

In Arizona, we go out and stand in it, look at it and marvel in it's loveliness.

We need the rain, tourists and Superbowl be damned.:D

I used to take the kids to a place that had carousel animals for the kids to sit on, parked in front of a bank of TVs - and they had a huge bucket of dumdums (if the kids got hair on their dumdum, they'd just whip out another one). The kids never even knew they were getting a hair cut I swear.

Exactly!

Right now I am wearing jeans and a huge button down shirt. You do realize I was kidding before when I said I was naked, right??

As for my happiness today, it is my B-day and some of my friends are taking me out to dinner.

Can't wait!!:D

Worth it.

Ibby 01-29-2008 08:48 AM

I'm officially now a card-carrying member of the ACLU!

And even better...

I'm currently listening to the Mobile Fidelity 200-gram vinyl half-speed master of Dark Side of the Moon, through a hand-wired, all-tube, all-analog amp.
Sooo damn nice.

BigV 01-29-2008 05:31 PM

I love Tink and Tink loves me.

:heartpump

Tink 01-30-2008 03:34 PM

Leaving for Vegas in one week for work. So nice when you don't have to pay for it.

BigV 01-30-2008 03:43 PM

yeah.... well.... .I *still* love her.

Nyah.

Clodfobble 01-30-2008 07:57 PM

I have an officially scheduled due date. April 11th, here I come! (Sorry, no gambling this time--I mean, you're welcome to, but the odds are stacked pretty heavily.) This is great for me because of my inherent distaste for uncertainty. It's not like it'll affect anything one way or another, I just like knowing. Plus, Friday is also an excellent starting point for lining up several days of childcare for Minifob.

HungLikeJesus 01-30-2008 08:00 PM

Would this one be microfob, then?

Clodfobble 01-30-2008 11:56 PM

Teenyfob is what I was calling her in some other thread. Gotta save microfob and nanofob in case I have more after this. :)

HungLikeJesus 01-31-2008 12:56 AM

Well, there's always picofob, femtofob, attofob, zeptofob and yoctofob - in case you really go nuts.

Aliantha 01-31-2008 01:20 AM

I just call mine Aden and Maverick. That's much easier. :)

BigV 01-31-2008 03:40 PM

I have no posts here.

That Keyfob is what got her into this mess.

I'm happy that It's Feb 1st. seems like spring is not too far off now. plus the beginning of the month is SO much easier than the end for me. Tomorrow will suck bad, but the 1st 10 days of the month are usually quite calm and relaxed at work. we do half of our month's business in the last 10 days.

and, as I am every day...I'm happy to be jinx's husband, and my kids Father.

My daughter tells me that she's glad she has a BIG dad like me. cuz I make her feel safe.

My son made me a sign that I look at every day when i get dressed: " Candy is sweet, and you can't be beat. So have a good day!" ......kids rule.

too much happy for February?

Perry Winkle 02-01-2008 07:45 AM

Only 212 days left until I'm done with grad school.

I must complete 20 assignments that amount to approximately 40,000 words, 35 "pages," and some to-be-determined deliverables for a consultancy project. So that's at least, what, 150 pages of stuff?

That's quite a daunting number to me. My entire undergrad career might equal that if you count programming projects.

Anyway, I like having all of my metrics together. I can tick off things and that makes me happy.

DanaC 02-01-2008 11:28 AM

Grad school? is that Post Grad at Uni?

monster 02-01-2008 11:59 AM

yes

Which basically negates that whole "it's better to buy a car at the end of the month" maxim, right, since everyone's doing it?

bluecuracao 02-01-2008 08:43 PM

I was so tired when I got off the train this evening, that I thought I would pass out. And maybe puke, at the same time. But as I rode the escalator up to the main concourse, my ears perked up. I could hear music...really fucking awesome music!

There was this old guy parked against a column, singing the blues and expertly jamming on his guitar...Gregory Underwood, I believe his name is. I may be mistaken (I was delirious), but it seemed that it was a SEPTA employee sitting beside him, providing perfect vocal harmonies.

It's stuff like this that makes me love Philly.

meh?

who can say? you're more likely to get a great deal on the last day of the month, but also more likely to sit and wait 3 hours for finance

LabRat 02-04-2008 10:06 AM

My brand spanking new Keen snowboots kept my feet warm, snuggly and dry this morning walking in to work through 8 inches of snowy slushy mess.

Sometimes, it's the small things...

LJ, there is no such thing as too much happy!
