What does that mean, monster? Some sort of skating merit badge?

monster 03-12-2008 03:00 PM

yup. skillz man, skillz.

I passed the final element of my test for Basic 7. I make them give me the patches because I'm a big kid :D Basic 8 has two jumps and a one-foot spin and all sorts of scary goodies on it

glatt 03-12-2008 03:15 PM

You must be able to skate backwards then, huh?

monster 03-12-2008 03:18 PM

I can :D with party tricks. (still prefer forwards, though)

Bullitt 03-12-2008 06:05 PM

Sometimes life's just kinda nice. *smiles*

Sundae 03-13-2008 05:17 AM

I am sitting at my desk, logged onto the Cellar, drinking fizzy water and a cup of de-caff tea. That makes me amazingly happy.

Having been here three days I am already trusted enough to be given the keys so I can come in early to let the cleaner in. And yesterday my Manager (a super-cool potty-mouthed Aussie) hinted that they might interview me for this position after all... Which is highly irregular, but would be wonderful.

I don't know if I told you why I am here, rather than sitting at home watching daytime TV and getting less than half of what I am earning... I went to a Pub Quiz a couple of weeks ago, and HM was in a lazy mood and let me go alone. I asked the Landlord whether he knew any teams that would accept an outsider and he directed me to Catherine and Anya. Who work here. And told me that they were looking for a receptionist and administrator but that I'd just missed the deadline for applying. I dropped my CV off the next day anyway and on Friday (just gone) I got a call asking me to come in to cover while they were recruiting.

The building is right at the end of my road, although the entrance is in the next street (booooo, an extra 40 seconds of walking) and is a super cool building - I'll take a photo as soon as I buy my laptop (!!!)

This is their website, they are a really interesting bunch of people.

I have brought in a bunch of daffodils for my desk, and a box of Maltesers, in a shamelessly transparent attempt to bribe my way into their hearts. Fingers crossed! At the very least I have a couple of weeks work and it's wonderful to be starting so close to home and with such a chilled out team.

DucksNuts 03-13-2008 05:22 AM

YAY SG!!! :D

That's fantastic, SG!

Shawnee123 03-13-2008 09:15 AM

That is so great, SG. Sounds perfect. I'm very happy for you.

Trilby 03-13-2008 09:53 AM

The sun is shining here...that's good. :)

Shawnee123 03-13-2008 09:55 AM

Yes it is Bri. Almost 60 today! :) Get out and enjoy that sunshine, girl.

Clodfobble 03-13-2008 10:03 AM

Way to go, Sundae!

BigV 03-13-2008 06:29 PM

Some new scouts are joining the troop tonight! And this weekend will be their first camping trip as Boy Scouts. We'll be at a very easy site, right on the water. Low tide is at 0730, so I'll be able to collect plenty of fresh oysters.

xoxoxoBruce 03-13-2008 10:38 PM

Fresh oysters and fresh scouts?

zippyt 03-13-2008 10:40 PM

going to be reading about V in the paper !!!

Just Joshing V !! ;) ;)

DanaC 03-14-2008 11:45 AM

In february a schoolgirl went missing, it's been all over the news and resulted in the biggest search in Yorkshire since the Yorkshire Ripper case. So often those stories end with a body in a ditch, or the child never found. Today police found Shannon alive. This makes me happy.

Shawnee123 03-14-2008 11:58 AM

Wonderful news. I'm glad she was found.

Shawnee123 03-14-2008 03:00 PM

Invariably, someone calls at the last minute every friday with a sob story and a "what do you mean I have to actually attend my classes to receive free money" as they try to twist your words every which way so you'll say what they want to hear.

Why does this make me happy? My boss got this last call, not me! She's very kind. I have to be nice too but it doesn't come as easily. ;)

Shawnee123 03-14-2008 03:07 PM

Oh, whew, I thought I'd never find my local FedCom representative.

skysidhe 03-14-2008 03:16 PM

I am glad the little girl was found danac.

Nice place to work SG. I am happy for you.

Clodfobble 03-14-2008 04:57 PM

OMG BACK POPPING IS TEH ROXXORS.

That is all.

HungLikeJesus 03-14-2008 05:05 PM

CF, I take that to mean that the chiropractor fixed your subluxation?

HungLikeJesus 03-14-2008 05:08 PM

AT&T removed all the charges that I incurred playing with the internet feature on my bluetooth phone (see below).

I feel very relieved.

On a related note, something funny happened last month. My wife got a Blackberry from work and gave me her old phone - which was almost identical to the phone I already had, except that hers has Bluetooth. This allows me to synchronize my address book with MS Outlook and to use a Bluetooth headset.

When setting up the Nokia PC Suite software I noticed an option to connect the computer to the internet through the phone using Bluetooth. As we have very slow dial-up at home, I tried it and found it was about five times faster than our dial-up. I used it about three times over the next week to download e-mail attachments and some software updates.

When the phone bill arrived Monday, instead of the regular amount of about $40, it was $770. AT&T charges $10 per megabyte, so $720 of that was for a few hours of internet connection (including some time on the Cellar).

Well, he popped my back and it immediately felt better. (He told me, "Now, you're going to feel sore from the adjustment for several hours, you may need some ice," and I was like, "No way, it felt great, can you do it again?!") I'm not totally pain-free, but now it's just a sore back instead of a stabbing, incapacitating pain. And now that I've learned a new way to pop my back that doesn't require me to lay on my stomach, I can make my husband do it whenever I need. :)

Sundae 03-15-2008 12:29 PM

I GOT TEH JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is amazing. Not only is it a great environment, but they pay a living wage, they are literally at the end of my road (pm me for google earth instructions if you're really that interested!) and they wanted me after I'd worked here a week so they know what they're getting.

Got the call last night (Friday, about 30 mins after the interview) so I'm having a GOOD weekend! Esp as I picked up a super-smashing-great pair of boots from the charity shop I volunteer at on Saturdays, and am working tomorrow at my local pub!!

Popped in for the genuine reason that I left my cashpoint (ATM) card here, but thought I'd capitalise on it while present :)

binky 03-15-2008 12:47 PM

Great news SG

skysidhe 03-15-2008 12:49 PM

congrats! :celebrat:

DanaC 03-15-2008 01:03 PM

I bought this little electric fireplace a couple of months ago. I would have bought a bigger version but my apartment is small. I am not out to impress anyone anyway just save on the electric that my basebord heaters pump out. I am happy to say that this little thing has cut my electric bill in half.

elSicomoro 03-15-2008 02:10 PM

I've written two songs on the bass already...I'm quite enjoying it.

The Orbz and Tape Deck Sonata play tonight at The Way Out Club...it's gonna be a great show!

Undertoad 03-15-2008 04:05 PM

New and very fast vehicle (Nissan Sentra SE-R "Spec V"). through an easy transaction despite my treacherous credit background, via our own Mr. Lumberjames.

skysidhe 03-15-2008 06:21 PM

awesome

Griff 03-15-2008 07:59 PM

Nice run of luck all!

About a year ago, I started fencing for fitness and kid time. I made it my goal to be competitive in the little tournament at BU that the have this time every year. If I remember correctly they had maybe 10 epee fencers of dubious skills last year. I fought today in a loaded field of 38 folks and knocked off the guy ranked 10th coming out of the pools. I clawed my way to the round of 16. Go me!

xoxoxoBruce 03-15-2008 08:16 PM

Way to go, D'Artagnan!

hardly treacherous. a simple phone call. I really hope you like it. It's just like the demo I drove for 6000 miles and loved. great handling, brakes, and radio. and power enough to surprise most other cars at the stop light. needs red trim.

how about a picture of you two?

total loss 03-15-2008 10:54 PM

I can still walk this morning, after marshalling back-to-back swim championships for 9 hours straight. Oh and my kids swam great, too :D I slept for 13 hours last night, mind - was in bed before the kids at 9:30!

Wtg Sundae and Griff. Sky, my friend has a couple of those heaters, they put out a lot of heat.

Oh, and I'm about to hit the tip jar to UTD can pay off his car and not make LJs deal look bad :).

Hit it for me, too, will you monster? I'm a little short this month.

monster 03-16-2008 03:05 PM

Perry Winkle 03-16-2008 05:23 PM

Heading back to the States for the first time since school started. It's going to be a friggen marathon, though. Between flights and driving we'll tally up 24 hours of non-stop travel. Too bad neither I nor my girlfriend can sleep in planes or cars.

HungLikeJesus 03-16-2008 10:37 PM

We're expecting another 16 inches of snow by tomorrow.

I'll be working from home.

LabRat 03-17-2008 09:24 AM

Just caught up on this thread, and want to say in no pariticular order:

"YESS!!!" to SG, "holy crap, and whew" to HLJ, "be careful" and second the pic request to UT, "nice job, Zorro" to Griff, "good luck" to PW and his girlie friend, and just a general "yeah!" for all the other little things that are going good in cellarites lives.

It's great to hear.

glatt 03-17-2008 09:29 AM

A lot of happiness in the last few days. Way to go everyone.

My happiness is pretty basic, but great anyway. Spent a lot of time outdoors over the weekend with my wife and kids hiking and biking. That's always a good time.

shina 03-17-2008 11:59 AM

met a great guy over the weekend. Will he call?????

Shawnee123 03-17-2008 12:03 PM

Went to see my 95 year old grandma in nursing home today (she just moved there, it was increasingly difficult to keep her in her home though my dad and his siblings sure did try.) She seems really happy, and still has that dry wit that has always made me laugh.

Trilby 03-17-2008 12:38 PM

I have ENERGY today! Yipeee! :)

Griff 03-20-2008 04:32 PM

Pete's latest goat product, vanilla yogurt is fab.

DanaC 03-20-2008 06:06 PM

I just read a really cool book...y'know, one of those books that leaves a little of itself behind when you put it down for the last time. That's two brilliant books in a row. I love it when that happens.
