It set up perfectly as well. She nailed it.
D- I just finished a book like that as well. Letting great characters go is bitter-sweet.

SonofV has earned the rank of Second Class Scout. It was something of a struggle to get him out of the house at times, but he was bursting with pride when he returned home to tell Tink the news. We're all very excited and happy.

LabRat 03-21-2008 11:06 AM

Seeing Sundae Girl around these parts again :D Missed you woman!

Sundae 03-21-2008 11:11 AM

A good friend of mine was in a really horrific wreck about a year ago (bystanders had to pull her semi-conscious out the passenger window of her flaming vehicle.) She escaped relatively unharmed, considering, but among the injuries was a massive hematoma on her forehead. As the wreck was completely and totally not her fault, the other guy's insurance paid her medical bills, but even now there is a lump on her forehead--not generally noticeable to strangers, but compared to pre-accident photos it is obvious--that the doctors say is permanent scar tissue on her skull and will never go away. What's more, these types of bone tissues tend to build up on themselves over time, such that she should expect to need surgery every 5-10 years for the rest of her life to scrape it back down to a reasonable state.

Anyway, long story short, the insurance company was arguing that these would be "cosmetic" procedures and not medically necessary, thus they didn't want to pay for it. She got a lawyer, and they have just now agreed to pay for all future medical costs related to her forehead.

Happy may be a little OTT descriptive-wise, but we finally did our taxes and it only took 2 hours for state and federal. And I'm pleased. We normally get them done early Feb, but we've barely had two minutes to rub together recently, and when we have...well.. who wouldn't take the rubbing together option over tax preparation? ;)

Sundae 03-25-2008 05:28 AM

I took the wrong pair of trousers out of the wardrobe today.
I thought they were a little snug around the wait - they've been really loose recently.

Then I realised I was wearing the size 18 instead of the size 20. Yay me :)

Am about to go home and sleeeeeeeep
Afternoon sleep is teh best. I justify it cos I'm working in the pub tonight. I am really a lazy bint.

skysidhe 03-29-2008 12:31 PM

I've always wanted to work in a pub. I hope you get lots of tips SG.

elSicomoro 03-29-2008 03:23 PM

Just finished cleaning the kitchen. April finished the bathroom earlier, and the laundry should be done in a couple hours. I dunno...having a clean house just brings me a great deal of satisfaction.

monster 03-29-2008 08:21 PM

Come over here and start on mine. I can get you drugs.....

elSicomoro 03-29-2008 11:26 PM

Well, I do need a new job...I'll consider it.

skysidhe 03-30-2008 09:13 PM

spring break is over.

The catch22 ...starting a new job right before a break = having no $$ to do anything but feeling thankful all the same :) It's a really cush job :) I am a happy camper.

DanaC 03-31-2008 04:05 AM

Ooooh. what job Sky? I must have missed the bit where you got a new job.

skysidhe 03-31-2008 03:45 PM

oh I started a month ago! ( oh and I think my original post about it is up further back in posts- not sure) It is a state job. My position isn't glorious but neither am I. It suits me well as opposed to grunt work that gets me nowhere but tired. I plan to take courses to finish my BA once I get adjusted to the hours. It is my goal no matter how long it takes because it's all down hill from here. ;)
j/k I just mean I am not getting any younger.carpe diem

Thanks!

Crimson Ghost 03-31-2008 05:30 PM

Good for you, sky.

DanaC 04-01-2008 07:05 AM

Fabulous! Good plan Sky. Sounds like you made a really positive move.

bbro 04-01-2008 08:34 AM

Got some meds....feeling much better.....can actually breathe!

BigV 04-01-2008 09:49 AM

Have morning coffee, will travel. No meetings today.

Cicero 04-01-2008 01:07 PM

I found your shirt bigv...

elSicomoro 04-01-2008 03:43 PM

Settled the wage issue with the new employer...can't fix the hours situation yet, but I can moonlight at my old job for now...someone there always wants off.

Thanks. It went well.

But then again, I'm perfectly happy where I am now.

Buffalo Bill 04-04-2008 06:41 PM

Start a new job next monday, after 2 months of unemployment.
I'm a happy Buffalo

Sundae 04-04-2008 06:52 PM

BIG congrats BB - I was off for approx 6 months and working again is a great feeling.

Sky - you don't get tips in pubs. Unlike bars in the US, the customer comes to the bar to order and receive their drinks, so the best you'll get is someone offering to buy you one. Which is terms of cutting down alcohol intake and losing weight isn't a great benefit. The other traditional benefit of working in a pub that serves food is that if you get on well with the landlord (or his wife) they will usually feed you. See above re losing weight. Sigh. But of course it's 4-6 hours of constant movement and after all it keeps my boys in chicken.

I'm happy tonight because I have tomorrow off, because my bro is going to order my laptop next week, because I have access to the Cellar at this time of night (from work, just around the corner) and because I was complimented tonight.

Yay!

BigV 04-07-2008 03:58 PM

I bought a bag of Doritos from the vending machine at lunchtime. When I opened the door to get my chips, I found a bag of M&Ms in the delivery tray in addition to my Doritos! Free dessert!

Clodfobble 04-07-2008 05:17 PM

Yesterday I bought new pajamas for Minifob. What makes me happy about this is it seems some lowly clothing designer with the children's clothing mega-brand Carter's has a sense of humor, and I suspect their boss didn't get the joke or the design never would have been approved.

The picture on the front is a large fish with his mouth open, clearly about to eat two smaller fish.

The caption on the shirt reads "Best Chums."

Not always the case Sundae. I usually ask the bar tender if they have a tip jar. Many do. Though getting a drink for the bartender is also common. Sometimes I ask them if they have a tip jar and they say no, but tell me they have a charity collection box for a local charity and I drop the 'tip' in there.

Sundae 04-08-2008 06:07 AM

Aha - never in the pubs I've worked in.
Different parts of the world perhaps?

xoxoxoBruce 04-08-2008 09:33 AM

Yeah, Dana lives in the commie area. :stickpoke

Sundae 04-08-2008 10:53 AM

I was thinking she just drank in a better class of pub ;)

Shawnee123 04-08-2008 03:47 PM

I'm taking a personal day tomorrow, to heck with the work! I'm finally getting this damn hair cut.

Over 6 weeks paid time off a year and I hardly get to use it! I hope the weather is as nice as it has been the last couple days.

Hey, me too!

Sundae 04-09-2008 06:23 AM

I have just sorted a problem.
In the scheme of things it was a minor issue - an £80 cheque issued to freelance worker X without a signature

In real life it was a big problem - X needed the money today, the person who ran the project is on annual leave, the overall manager of the project was due in at 11.30 and still wasn't here when X arrived. And the cheque was made out to the wrong person.

I was calm. I ascertained before X arrived that the only other member of staff present today could sign off the cheque (having taken X's mobile number in case). I then took the decision to handwrite a new cheque with all previous details.

I know it sounds minor, but I didn't stress, I sorted it out officially and I sent a previously irritated X away with a positive impression by quoting the choreographer's good feedback about the work she was involved in.

Admin won't change the world, but I'm glad to realise I'm still good at it.

Oh and the cat-bed I ordered on payday has finally arrived! My boys are going to adore it. And so have my 99p catnip seeds. Here's hoping my usual black thumb doesn't apply in this situation!

Lots to be happy for today, so I am.

HungLikeJesus 04-09-2008 04:16 PM

Yes. In fact, I'm leaving in a few minutes, just in case the snow comes early.

kerosene 04-09-2008 04:18 PM

I love work at home days...wait, I do that every day.

But seriously, very cool for you. Kind of sucks for me, because I don't have to go to work but I have other things I have to do.

HungLikeJesus 04-09-2008 04:20 PM

I'm considering closing down this office at the end of the month and working from home permanently. Then I'll be just like you.

kerosene 04-09-2008 04:29 PM

Yay, I can't wait to have a twin Jesus!
