I am ecstatic that the photorescue advanced pc software I purchased has resurrected four thousand photos from a drive previously impervious to all attempts to resuscitate.

Ecstatic, I tell you.

sweetwater 04-28-2009 03:42 PM

I was thrilled by finding the IRS refund check in the mail, but I believe I'm happier for you, BigV. Four thousand photos almost lost? That would kill me! 'Tis good that the software worked, yes indeed.

Tiki 04-28-2009 04:42 PM

Kindness.

jinx 04-28-2009 06:17 PM

Spring. In full bloom, all over my yard.

Damn. That is a beautiful place. Just awesome.

What kind of trees are those? With the pinky-purple blooms.

jinx 04-28-2009 07:31 PM

Thanks! The big ones are ornamental cherries. There's also a weeping cherry and a crab apple tree.

This one was pretty too...

Your yard is like something out a dream, jinx. Beautiful! Must be great to look out over that in the mornings.

jinx 04-28-2009 08:37 PM

I love it, it's brief but awesome. Supposed to rain tomorrow and it'll be all downhill from there...

Chocolatl 04-29-2009 06:41 AM

Things that are making me happy today:
-I got my car back from the body shop! Woohoo! The folks there did an awesome job. It looks great, and it is SO nice to be mobile again after a week and a half of being stranded.
-Car came back just in time for me to be able to swing out to pick up a few decorations for Kitsune's birthday. He had a final exam to take and was home late, but at least I got the table decorated for the nice dinner I cooked him.
-I aced my last class, and get to go pick up all of my final assignments today.
-Both of my parents will be coming up for my graduation this weekend. My mother has a deep fear of driving -- I think it probably qualifies as a phobia -- and she lives four hours away. Last year, when I got married, she was trying to convince me to come pick her up before the wedding but eventually got a friend to drive her. For this weekend she decided to drive herself up, with a responsible friend in the passenger seat for advice/support. I am very, very proud of her, and ecstatic that she gets to come see me walk. Prayers/good wishes/positive vibes for her to make a safe trip would be very much appreciated.

All in all, it's just a happy kind of day.

capnhowdy 04-29-2009 07:07 AM

Prayers/good wishes/positive vibes from the Capn.

Go, ChocoMama! And congrats to Choco and Kitsune!

Trilby 04-29-2009 09:41 AM

fine Scottish weather we're havin' here. Nice, soft rain coming down at a slight slant so it doesn't sting you.

LabRat 04-29-2009 12:02 PM

When I first read Pie's post, I thought that Choco's happy (which I hadn't gotten to yet) was going to say she was going to be the next to be adding to the Cellar family.

Though I am dissapointed that's not the source of her happy, the news about her mom is really great! Way to go! :driving:

DanaC 04-29-2009 02:10 PM

*smiles* wonderful that your mum will be there choco:) Way to go, chocomama!

glatt 04-29-2009 02:17 PM

I gave blood today. It always makes me feel good about myself when I do that. So I'm happy about that.

This time, I also signed up for the bone marrow database. They took a couple cheek swabs, and will put me in a database. There's a one half of one percent chance that I may someday match somebody who needs bone marrow transplant. If so, I'll have a big decision to make, since the procedure is pretty invasive, but I'd be saving a life. We'll cross that bridge if I come to it.

You know, I was just on the phone with ChocoMama last night, and she said that all of her coworkers kept asking when she would have grandchildren. "Don't you want grandkids?" they asked her. "Doesn't matter what I want," she responded, "because they're the ones that have to deal with it all." Awesome answer, mom!

I don't think we'll be adding to the family for a while yet, but when a ChocoBaby or KitsuBaby comes along, I promise y'all will be among the first to know. :)

Pie 04-29-2009 02:29 PM

Thank you, glatt. :thumb:

I just got a check from some lawyers involved in the bankruptcy case of my former employer. After four and a half years, I have now received approximately 1/5th of what they owe me (which is more than I ever expected to see.) And what's more, the language isn't clear but it seems possible that they're saying this money is only from one part of the litigation, and I might be receiving more of my money at a later date.

Cicero 04-29-2009 11:09 PM

My friend from Colorado will be here soon to visit!! Yah!!
I miss my friends. :(

My seeds have sprouted!
After watching them jealously for days, thinking every pale grey speck of soil was an emerging shoot, all of a sudden they exploded into life and I missed it!

Oh and I have a beautiful new ring. I love it for its own sake, and for the sender.

DanaC 04-30-2009 12:34 PM

I managed to get four and a half of my five a day today. God it was hard work. yesterday I managed two.

Today I have had: a glass of fruit juice (1 of the 5) and did some spaghetti with one of those stir in sauces, but I added four cherry tomatoes, three spring onions (together that's about 1 out of the 5) along with three desertspoons of tinned peas and three dessert spoons of tinned kidney beans (that's about 1 1/2 ). And I ate an apple. (1)

Feeling quite chipper about that.

Tiki 04-30-2009 04:02 PM

I got two new chicks today. Bittersweet.

morethanpretty 05-01-2009 12:42 AM

Turned in the term paper today (I was a bit short but I just don't care anymore)!
Two more weeks of classes left! Wheeeeeee!

Trilby 05-01-2009 08:19 AM

I have written a KICK ASS paper and am quite goofy-faced pleased with it! I feel like a car salesman who just unloaded a Hummer!

YAY!

DanaC 05-01-2009 08:52 AM

Way to go Bri:) What's it on?

I am pleased with myself because again...I elected to eat fruit and vegetables. Goodness that's three or four days in a row now...

I didn't do the financially sensible thing of looking in my cupboards and fridge and making do with whatever's there. I did, however, choose to buy a boxed salad from the village bakery/deli, instead of a steak pasty and an eclair (which was what I fancied). Now, granted, I'm not sure how healthy one can consider a salad that's at least half stodge (bacon, chicken, mayonnaise all glooped together in a mix + coleslaw); but...it had a goodly amount of onion, grated carrot and cabbage (via the coleslaw), delightfully crunchy and fresh lettuce, cucumber, a few pieces of red pepper, about a medium size tomato in slices, and a boiled egg (not veg but good source of lecithin).

I also bought a banananananana (that enough na's?) though...I only managed half of it. Should have waited til later to eat that. But I wanted something sweet after all that salad.

So...I now feel like I have eaten enough to last me for the rest of the week and somehow I have to try and do the same thing again tomorrow...or even later tonight...but hey...gotta be better than that empty shite I usually fill up on (McD's, BK's, Gregg's pasties, sweets etc).

I reckon the salad and half a nana combined make between two and three portions. I'm going to try and persuade myself to drink some more pomegranate and blueberry juice later.

If I can persuade myself to eat another meal later, and can manage to include half a tin of peas I might actually make it to 5 portions today.

I am feeling happy about this.

Trilby 05-01-2009 08:57 AM

Dana, I am off to the grocery right now to stock up on some sensible things, too, and not go off all over to eat fast food all week like I did LAST week (and now my heart is hurting from it all), I wonder if Cherry has influenced us to eat better? :)

my paper is on Lady MacBeth and how the witches are much, much better role models for women to follow. well, that's it in a really small shell - but I AM happy with it!

eta: I realize saying the witches are better role models than the lady is simplistic as the lady is no lady, but it's more to do with feminine archetypes and the divided self and being true to self...blah blah blah...so, yeah, that's it.

Tiki 05-01-2009 09:23 AM

This morning I got up and took a shower.

Small victories!

So what you're saying is, it's better to stay at home and cook than to get involved in politics?

Queen of the Ryche 05-01-2009 10:06 AM

Today I am happy for this thread. So full of happy vibes, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Thanks for sharing guys!

DanaC 05-01-2009 10:09 AM

@ Bri: Oh Cherry's definately influenced me on the trying to eat healthy thing. I intermittently try to, but rarely with a view to actually measuring out the 5 a day (or as close as I can get) more just cutting out the bad stuff. This time i'm trying to get a variety of healthy stuff into my diet. So, it's more about what I am including than what I am excluding. And when I am making myself buy an apple or a banana instead of a bag of crisps and a cadbury's whole nut chocolate bar, I have in my minds eye, how well Cherry is looking and how much will power she has.

'cause...me and Cherry are quite alike in a lot of ways. So, I figure if she can be strong and committed then so can I :P

Not quite.

I'm saying it's better to throw an out-of-door party in threatening weather with your best good friends sharing a socialist stew (they all contribute to the pot, after all) and THEN get obliquely involved in politics simply by mentioning a few things to some wandering soldier or other. Then sit back, relax and watch the show!

100 eBay feedbacks.

It's a small thing, and I know there are many real vendors out there with tens of thousands. But hey, I did something, 100%, 100 out of 100. That's like the best grade you can get, in school.

In the real world, yes. I attended Catholic elementary school, and they would not give you a 100% on anything even if you made no mistakes because that would imply that you were perfect. Only God, and the Pope (of course) were perfect, the rest of us were sinners. :headshake

Congratulations for the accomplishment! You done good.

The good news: ChocoMama made it safely up to Tampa (but her friend drove the whole way because mom freaked out about 8 miles in to the drive.)

The bad news (this should go in the "What's making your blood pressure go through the roof and making you homicidal?" thread but we don't have one of those): ChocoMama and her friend insisted on following the GPS's directions to the hotel instead of the ones I wanted to give (which involved one merge and three turns for the whole four hour drive). They proceeded to get horrifically lost around Tampa for 2 hours. Many confused, frustrated, bewildered and increasingly angry phone calls were exchanged. At one point they were two blocks from the hotel, and I wanted to give them directions but mom decided to take the GPS's word over mine and ended up going 10 miles north when they needed to go two blocks south. Finally we told them to stay put, and Kitsune and I went to retrieve them. Their hotel just opened two months ago, and their GPS could make heads nor tails of it. Siiiiigh. But -- count your blessings, right? Mom's here, and safe.

DucksNuts 05-02-2009 03:50 AM

Today was the Tman's first soccer game.

Over here, under 6's only play 4 aside. I'm soooo proud of our little Knights ...Im co-captain (not quite sure how that happened), but they were seriously awesome!!

They were defeated 8 to 6, but they listened, had fun, didnt push anyone over and were just great little sports. I'm also co coach, ha, which really just means encouraging them and making sure they are running in the right direction.

The other team got snotty because Tman had a natural inkling for defense and would bolt down the the goal when the other team got the ball....it was great, they would of flogged us by another 4 goals....youre allowed to defend the goal, but not have an official goalie or use your hands. Stupid Mums...Theyre 6 for fucks sake, and you won anyway...get over it.

Also, props to the young ref (ump?) he was only about 15 and really good with the kids and the parents.

Good day, Ive washed the team jumpers already :D

Last nite I got to dress up in my fancies coz we went to a Debutante Ball....the girl I went to watch looked amazing and it took me back to my Deb days....even the same dude with the same bad *rug* did the training. Saw heaps of people I havent seen for 10+ years and pretended I didnt recognise some others :)

DanaC 05-02-2009 04:05 AM

ref. - umps are for tennis and cricket.

Debutante's ball? Is that the norm over there? Over here it's only the upper-classes who do the whole deb thing. Certainly not something I have ever seen or been involved with lol, :P

[eta] though my gran had her Coming Out ball (as the deb's ball was called) to the ViceRoy of India.

DucksNuts 05-02-2009 04:56 AM

@ Dana, its pretty common around these parts. Coming into fashion more and more.

The debs are presented to a visting hob knob of the participating church. Scrolls are presented, 2 classical dances are performed...Pride of Erin, and Waltz. Then a couple of contempory types....last nites being, a Tangoette performed to Sexy Back and some progressive thing to Achy Breaky Heart..buahaha.

I will have to dig out the pics from mine.

capnhowdy 05-02-2009 07:13 AM

Achy Breaky Heart?

I thought there was a world wide ban on that song.:eyebrow:

Our city still has a real annual Debutante Ball for the young ladies of Savannah's Upper Crust.

We have a famous murder case surrounding one girl.

Wow Choco. Bg juicy congrats to you, honey. You deserve a loooong drink and as much party/rest as you can handle :)

Sundae 05-02-2009 04:40 PM

Congrats Choc - work well done.

I've won two prizes this week.
A bra and (lady) shorts set worth £45! Sadly the shorts won't fit me yet, but I'm willing to wait.

And £30 gift vouchers for an online bulb seller.
I think I'll have to sell them on eBay.

I have a faux-karma thing about not entering competitions I don't want to win. So to excuse the above - the bra in the set will fit me. They are a company that go up to porn star/ bearded lady sizes. Just not the bottoms.

And I entered the other comp with the 'rents in mind, but Mum says, "Bulbs? Pain in the arse!" so it was my ignorance really. I'd use them myself if I was better off - lilies in a pot for example. But as it is I figure even £5 is a bonus.

Oh and staying teetotal at the family BBQ today.
Not so good on the food front, but hey. Small steps.

ZenGum 05-02-2009 11:39 PM

Congraduations, Choco!

And well done, Sundae!

lookout123 05-03-2009 03:19 AM

i've been sick for three days which tends to spoil the birthday celebrations so I decided to have a drink. four hours later and I'm fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked up. i feel better. until tomorrow.
