Sakura-Con, here we come!
|
Today I went for a walk we met a big dog called Zac he let me walk with him and sniff where he was sniffing it was good.
I am a big grown up dog now mummy says and big grown up dogs don't pounce on bigger dogs and try to get their ears and don't bark at them when they won't play. I am making lots of freinds all the bigger dogs think I am great and don't even bite me at all. |
Hello Carrot. Nice to meet you. You are a good dog and I'm glad you had a fun time on your walk today.
|
Carrot! Yo, wassup dawg?
|
Silly thing to be happy about, but why question it?
The 'rents taped a holiday programme the other night, and saved it for me because the first section was on Amsterdam. I watched it yesterday (day to myself as they were out on a tour of the London Olympic sites) and realised it featured one of the places I went to. I mean, yes, there were the obvious tourist sites anyway, but they made a feature of De Tarte van m'n Tante - a place I made a special stop at. I mean don't get me wrong, it's in many tourist guides, but I had photos of me in there, which I was able to show Mum. She was really squealy about it; as was I! Smiles all round. |
The ability to stick together my unlocked smartphone, a local sim card with hefty data plan, some free software and my Netbook to make me independent of wifi. This will be a winner in most if not all of the countries I have to travel to for work. :)

I'm taking it you're abroadski right now..?

Uzbekistan. The hotel claimed to have wifi throughout, but only has it in the lobby. There is an internet socket in my room, but that doesn't work either. However, I now have the technology .... Will also be useful at home where there is a 3G signal (i.e. not at home on Arran!!).
|
Nice work, Limey.
What brings you to Uzbekistan? |
I am sharing my house with a little ball of fur and sunshine. I just want to squeeze him, and squeeze him and then eat him up for my tea.

Postcard from Tiger.
As usual he placed words according to his own system, but the two blocked out words are his name and his sister's. Mummy wrote my address. I offered my address in case he liked the idea of sending a postcard. he has received them from me before. I'm glad I did, as it obviously occupied him for a while. Big stretchy smilie from me. |
That's really nice Sundae, big smiles here too.
*** I'm happy today thinking about BD's comment to me yesterday after I helped her out, "You're my hero Dad." :D |
1st decent bonus in about 8 months.
 |
Good for you Jim!
|
Yey!! Nice goin Jim.
|
now I just need to put it in my sock drawer and leave it there. The way April is going, next month will be a bit of a fall off....
|
what about taking 1/12th of it and spending it how you like this month, and repeating that process each month of the coming year. next month, "a bit of a fall off" or not, repeat the process, then you will have 2/12ths of the bonus to spend/save/etc. Repeat through the year and you insulate yourself from the ups and downs month to month.
Of course, you're a big boy and can manage your money... This is how I know I'm getting old, I talk this way. |

The coach was going to get it today. I emailed him, so I won't, but it was close.....

Yesterday I had a chewy thing what mummy said was a paddywack and today I have a paddywack they are nice and chewy but not as chewy as a table.
Mummy made some magic hard water what she called icey cube and it is very cold and slippy on the floor and makes my mouth go all cold and then it is crunchy. |
Cooking class is going very well, and about half of them already asked if there's going to be a "level 2" offered. It's especially funny because they're all so excited to be in the same room with people living the same life they are, they practically do all the talking themselves. I've literally only had time to use 25% of the material I had prepared so far, if that. I'm not teaching a class, I'm moderating a support group. Someone will ask a question, and 3 people will pipe up to answer it before I can. :)
|
Clod-I would think you'd be a natural at support group moderation.
|
That's awesome! Most teachers would kill to have that level of class participation and interest.
|
Totally agree with Bri and glatt.
It's really wonderful that you can share what you've developed and make an impact on others who need it most. |
finished all the long long sewing for the pack covers, hundreds of feet of casing around the rim of the pack covers. Now, have to measure cut and thread the elastic through the casing with a bodkin, then tie and sew. After that I need to make 25 stuff sacks for the covers. plus casings in the top, and drawstrings and toggles. then I'll be done.

My horrible horrible neighbours have moved out! Yay!

there goes the neighbor(hood).

We just rescued a just about 2 yr old purebred female boxer! She is now safetly at my father-in laws in Calgary for the evening. Then, tomorrow morning a friend and I are driving out to meet them half way here, to bring her home. We will be meeting in Golden BC around 1-1:30 and by 5pm she will be in her forever home!
I know its only been 2 weeks since my Freya passed on, but this one needed us now. She was being sent to the SPCA at 5 tonight, as the owner had rescued her 4 months before from being crated for 18 hours a day, and no longer wanted (in fact the new wife of the original owner HATES dogs)... then her world fell apart. The lady has mental health issues, an abusive ex, an eviction notice, and had never dealt with the energy or needs that a boxer brings to your life. The lady rescued this little one.. just in time for us to need and want another dog. We were going to wait, and get a puppy in a few months... but something about this one called to us. Dad says she was great in the car on her way to his house, went pee outside, and is being a good girl. She is not hand shy, is skinny, but not "too bad", has the boxer energy and mentality (IE: PLAY PLAY PLAY..oh look a butterfly.... huh? PLAY PLAY PLAY) I am soo looking forward to meeting her tomorrow. My Loki dog will be so happy to have someone to play with again, and this new one will be spoiled rotten with all the love and attention an animal should have from its family. |
Major congrats Jay.
Stop by the Post Your Pet thread as soon as you stop cuddling her enough to take a pic. |
Aww, Jaydaan. So happy for you. Sometimes they just kind of walk into your life. And you make the choice.
Freya would never have wanted to see you unhappy. That's the thing about dogs. They really just want you to be happy. I often think that if Pilau were here in some strange way and able to speak, he'd be glad there was another dog performing his doggy duties (marking territory, checking the mail, worrying the postman, and making sure mummy is ok), because otherwise they'd be left undone. And that would never do. Can't wait to 'meet' her in the Pets thread :p |
7 hours away, and in another province.. not sure how we found each other! I was just surfing the classifieds to check prices/pedigrees/etc on dogs under 1 year old. I responded to the ad, and then talked to the lady for 2 days we asked all kinds of questions back and forth and decided she was right for our household. She was supposed to be delivered sometime in the new few weeks. Then everything went south for the lady, and time was of the essence. I actually thought for a while today, that we would not get her. Then 3 people stepped up and helped us out. (our car broke down yeaterday!!!!) I am a firm believer of "everything happens for a reason"
So as soon as someone talks me through how to put pictures up, I will post both my babies very soon! |
So how many hours til you meet her? *grins*
|
22.5!
|
And counting :p
|
I love boxer dawgs.

One Day Off, Sunday. Tall ships in Savannah.
|
Well that was a long an exshusting day. Driving that far with horrible roads, and a messed up back equalled all kinds of grrr and ouchies. As soon as we met up with Father-in-law and met Aesa it was all worth it! She is beautiful, much tinier than my Freya was and of course my very large Loki dog.
Her name was Jahja, pronounced Zsa Zsa. None of us liked that name one bit. We did however find her the perfect name: Aesa it was part of Greek Mythology and is the personification of fate and destiny. I think its very appropriate. As I type my two are playing with the same tug, both having an end, and running around the house. Aesa sounds like she is rabid and is about to kill anyone and anything near her, but thats just how she sounds when she plays. She is going to take some time to get used to... still nervous when I hear her grrrr. No wonder the lady with no boxer experience was unable to handle her. Loki is loving having a palymate around again, and is not used to one that plays quite this rough either, as Freya was always a gentle girl, and not as boxer as most boxers. As he learned his play style from her.... this is an adjustment for everyone. So far her only issue is a bit of dribbling pee she has sometimes. We take her out she goes, she comes back in, and there is little drops for a while after. I will be contacting the vet, she may just have a weak bladder, or she may just be excited from all the things happening to her in the past 24 hours. Suprisingly, there has been no whining, no hand/head shyness, no aggression other than her play style. She is our shadow tho, and does not like it if she can't find her humans. We figure this is from her being transerfered from so many homes, including her 24 hours with "grampa". He loved having her, and is really proud of her and he raised boxers for years. I have pictures, just no clue how to post them here.... |
That sounds fab. Lookin' forward to the pics ...
|
Jaydaan, do you have a flickr account?
|
No I do not... I should look into that. Is it free?
|
It is free aye. There's different ones. Photobucket, Flickr, and a few others. They allow you to host your pics in one place and just link straight to the pic.
Or, you can edit the pics on your hard drive so they're not too big and use the attachments feature (little paperclip at the top of the reply box on advanced) I used to always upload pics as an attachment, but when I joined a bearded collie site they dont have that option, so I have now got more into the habit of uploading to flickr and then grabbing the code and pasting it into the reply box. |
Back at school today!
Happy, happy, happy! Well.... kind of bittersweet. Talked to Tiger's Mum after school, he's been having a really tough time with me off. I spoke to my HLTA first thing and she said he's been fine, coped well without me. But he was obviously storing it up for when he got home - he does this, internalises things. So he's been crying well into the night, reverting to behaviour they thought he'd grown out of. Tiger Mum said, "We realised that this is how he would be if he didn't have your help in the classroom." So I feel terribly for the cub, even though I had not choice to be off. But it makes me doubly happy I am back. And yes, there is a tiny, weeny spark which I am trying the smother which says "See - you are doing a good job." Even as I acknowledge his world would be upset if anyone who supported him was off for two weeks. Poor little chap - I smashed up his routine. The other bittersweet happiness is about the friend of a colleague I made carrot mini cakes for (see My Cakes thread). We talked about it on a Tuesday. I made a vague agreement to make something. That Friday I was sent home from school for being to ill to work. On Sunday (as documented in the same thread) I made carrot mini-cakes because although I hadn't officially committed, her friend had cancer and that touches my heart for so many reasons, not even just Bri. I knew Mrs K went to visit her on Monday evenings. So I made the effort to walk round to another colleague's house with the cakies, coughing all the while and I got drenched on the way home (although that was my fault for not taking an umbrella when the sky was already a purple bruise) Anyway. I'm not bigging up my altruism. It was an effort I made on really nothing more than a whim. I found out today that she had her regular Monday visit - with the cakes. Left her friend with a huge smile on her face - she was so happy that Mrs K had cared enough to bring her a special treat from the lady at school who made the wonderful cakes. Her friend died on Wednesday. Monday was the last time she saw her smile. I had a very little part in that. I'm just glad I went a little more out of my way than I would usually, because it enabled someone to have a good memory at a time of loss. Sheer luck. |
Goes to show does that.
|
Carrot dropped his first tooth!
A lickle puppeh molar was on my floor this evening. |
