About two months ago I had my tires swapped over for winter. I think I posted about this. Anyway, a bolt attaching the upper rear control arm had sheared and was in an inaccessible place for drilling or easyouting or anything. A long saga ensued where I had some back and forth with some junk yard on ebay and I eventually got my part, then I got some more parts as money filtered in from jobs. For two months the fucking car has been up on jack stands and life has been pretty fucked as far as everything since I live in east cornflake. Some very helpful friends have helped out along the way but I am averse and generally reluctant to ask for help.

Finally, today I got the rear suspension back together except I forgot to get a new knuckle bushing, but that will be here tomorrow. No one, not even the dealer had the bolt that is supposed to connect it to the control arm. Luckily the hardware store had a similar metric bolt, only it was a series 8.8 rather than a 10.9. Fuck it, I'll drive slowly until I can get one from Korea.

I replaced the rotors and pads on one side in the back, and will do the other side in the morning. The guy at NAPA mentioned that I would probably need to grind the metal of the pad to ensure it didn't bind otherwise the pads would wear unevenly. A fucking light went off. That explained an awful lot. In retrospect I remembered that, but had forgotten to do that over the past few pad changes.

Things came together more easily this time, but it was getting dark by the time I had finished side one.

So, I'm fucking stoked that my car is back on the road.

My dad had a rough month, but he's finally able to get out and do the things he likes to do, the things that keep him going and awesome. I'm so very grateful for that. Seeing him out and about yesterday was the best start to a new year.

Griff 01-02-2017 05:51 PM

Good stuff!

infinite monkey 01-02-2017 05:52 PM

Griff 01-04-2017 07:30 AM

Yeah, what the hell, man?

glatt 01-04-2017 08:35 AM

I love this thread. Great job, classic!

infinite monkey 01-04-2017 08:36 AM

Thanks all... and glad to hear it classic!!!!!

classicman 01-04-2017 04:10 PM

Thanks. I'm back in advertising sales though. I REALLY REALLY didn't want to go here, but the opportunity presented itself and the man I am working for is a very nice guy. So far so good. Then again, everything is great as long a you are selling enough... and usually there is never enough. We shall see.

I'm also looking at flipping some houses and after a few local seminars I'm starting to get my network together. This part interests me a lot and I'm hopeful about it.

Clodfobble 01-04-2017 10:09 PM

Be careful, classic. If people are good at flipping houses, then they flip houses--they don't teach seminars about it. I know more than one person who has lost a ton of money on what they thought was an easy flip.

orthodoc 01-07-2017 09:54 AM

Brilliant sunshine on sparkling snow, 5 degrees outside, fire in the fireplace. Threading another warp on my loom, making soup. A perfect winter day.

xoxoxoBruce 01-07-2017 12:17 PM

Sounds wonderful. :thumb:

Gravdigr 01-07-2017 12:33 PM

What's making you happy today?

The fact that this day can only last another 12 hours or so.

A fixed point in time.

PA Farm Show on TV.

DanaC 01-09-2017 06:05 PM

After being really ill all weekend - actually having been really ill all week and somehow managing to work, I then sank into full on flu on Friday night- I was dreading today. I was dreading the week - I was so wiped out I just could see the week being horrible - and then this morning I woke up feeling much, much better . It's still there and I have been using my inhaler a lot more as breathing is bad, but I woke up feeling like myself and, by the time I arrived at work, with energy and enthusiasm.

So now the week is not stretching ahead as a horrible unconquerable mountain after all :)

xoxoxoBruce 01-09-2017 07:04 PM

So the Commies were right, work makes you strong. :haha:

Griff 01-10-2017 07:45 AM

good on you!

fargon 01-10-2017 07:52 AM

I got out of bed unassisted and didn't have to chew thru the restraints.

glatt 01-10-2017 08:08 AM

celebrate those milestones

PA Farm Show horse events, roping, barrel riding, pole cutting, etc. Teen girls with erect nipples bouncing. Wholesome family entertainment. :D

sexobon 01-17-2017 12:34 PM

I was summoned as a "standby" juror. It turned out that they had enough people and I didn't have to go in.

The last time I was on "standby", I not only had to go in, I was selected to serve on a jury.

So, I've got the day off. Me happy.

DanaC 01-21-2017 05:56 AM

Nice, sexo:)

I am enjoying my Saturday. I got up a little late - but not crazy, waste the day late. I am sitting here, with a smoke in my hand and a steaming hot cup of coffee on my desk. Carrot has had a little morning walk and should be good for a couple of hours for his main walk.

I worked last Saturday and had the Wednesday prior off in lieu - so I didn't have a proper weekend break from work, and then went straight into a week of the most hated shift: 12-8. Mornings mainly spend arsing about, getting ready and walking the dogs, then off to work, get back to Mum's about 8:45 and off for another dog walk - by the time I am home and done with giving Carrot his supper, changing out of my work clothes and making a bite to eat, I have maybe an hour or two at most and it's time for bed.

Don't have to that again for another 5 weeks - yay :)

So I now have a proper weekend stretching ahead of me and next week's the 8-4 shift so I'll be having to get up mega early, but will be coming home in daylight. Hurrah.

This was me ... except I didn't have to lie and say I was working.

xoxoxoBruce 01-21-2017 02:27 PM

I keep going round and round with these people. I can't serve properly on a jury because I can't hear shit. In a quiet courtroom with everyone speaking into a PA system I might catch 90%, but I've been in courtrooms and that ain't the case.

The woman from the jury board calls me up and says, "Well, you can hear me!" Yes, if everyone in the courtroom spoke on my special phone linked to my hearing aid I'd hear them too. She wouldn't give up.

The last time they sent me a letter, instead of telling them I'm hard of hearing, I said I'd be glad to serve and look forward to keeping the defendants from getting fucked over like the County Court did to me.

I was excused.;)

classicman 01-21-2017 02:41 PM

Ha! Nice! I normally take the "Everyone is guilty or they wouldn't have been arrested in the first place/throw the book at them approach." They haven't invited me in yet. I've changed my stance lately. WTF, I think I'd be a far better/fairer jurist than some so I'm OK with doing it.

Gravdigr 01-21-2017 03:36 PM

I've never been on a jury.

I've been in front of a few of them...I don't like juries.

BigV 01-22-2017 11:37 AM

Going for a hike somewhere on the Olympic Peninsula with BelovedDaughter today.

See ya!

DanaC 01-22-2017 11:43 AM

Have fun!

Gravdigr 01-22-2017 01:56 PM

It's a pretty nice day for a walk by the river. A little sunshine for a change (I remember it fondly), about 65 degrees, hardly any wind.

Maybe before the--checks tv schedule--woops, no walk today. Packers vs Falcons at 2pm. Go Pack!

Well....shit.

xoxoxoBruce 01-23-2017 12:50 AM

So it's Falcons and Cheatriots.

Griff 01-23-2017 07:02 AM

Think I'll make other plans.

glatt 01-23-2017 08:13 AM

Too bad. I normally enjoy watching the Superbowl.

xoxoxoBruce 01-23-2017 10:59 AM

Yeah, I'll watch it just because I've seen every one, and watch it with the same people every year.

At least the ones that are still alive.

classicman 01-23-2017 11:50 AM

Seriously unhappy about it. I'll be looking for alternate plans. I hope Brady breaks in half and the Falcons stomp the crap out of them. Don't remotely see that happening, but ...
<<<<< I'll be over there not caring.

BigV 01-23-2017 05:49 PM

Maybe I'm in the wrong thread... "happy"

Anyhow the hike was really nice. It *did* happen and I do have the pics to prove it.

monster 01-23-2017 06:17 PM

Surprised PoloGirl with a brand new sewing machine of her own -she's happy :)

classicman 01-25-2017 05:18 PM

Wasn't today, it was yesterday...
Decided to cop a "fuck it" and head up to Downingtown for lunch with Lumberjim. We met at A Chick-fil-A and shot the shit for 30 mins or so. Damn I wish we lived closer. I'd definitely hang out with him more. The other part that made me happy was he gave me a gift. A sampling so to speak. :joint:

Good looking people and nice country you got there.

Very nice to finally "see" DofV. I love the dogpack too!

xoxoxoBruce 01-26-2017 09:46 AM

The dog is carrying the gear and still pulling on the leash. :haha:

Gravdigr 01-26-2017 01:43 PM

Beloved Daughter is a very pretty girl.

Well, it's Friday, so, there's that.

I got the drawer frames for my bench completed today. I built the bench out of Rock Maple (we were at the beach...) in 1980 and have always meant to do something with the underneath. I finally got fed up with lack of storage space in my tiny ass shop so I decided to make a shit ton of drawers.

After too many stupid attacks to count and dealing with my *ready to shit the bed* thickness planer, I finally cobbed this catastrophe together.

I should make notes because next time I do it I will do it a lot differently, only by the time I need to do this again, if that time ever comes, I won't remember a fucking thing that I learned.

Now I have to make 18 drawers. Built on a foundation that is not square, plumb, or straight, this whole project has been an exercise in abandoning the remotest pretense of perfectionism. It's all plus or minus an eighth.

Laudable.

This is why you were exhorted to do your best, not do your perfect.

This is how shit gets done, the triumph of the tangible good over the possibly perfect.

Good job.

Not a *perfect* job.....

Just good natured-ly yankin yer chain.
