My MIL died in Feb and we have been trying to sell her house since then. Wife just left the closing with a check. The house now belongs to someone else. So we sold the house in a down market and made a profit. Now we can take care of the rest of business.

DanaC 10-30-2008 03:49 PM

Good outcome Merc.

Sundae 10-30-2008 04:02 PM

Congrats Merc.
We're still trying to sell Great Aunt Alice's house. Someone is going to get a real bargain I can tell you - all the siblings are in their 80s and want it off their hands (also the other three - apart from Grandad - have their own money, so don't mind what it sells for).

Happy right now? Yes. Am having an early night, and when I wake up it will be Halloween. :reaper:

My sweetheart did very well in puppy training todaaay!!! They (the instructors) said that she was doing very well, and added that I was "good with her". I noticed that she was better at commands than other dogs her age, and I got to show off some of the training that we were already learning together at home. The instructors were impressed!! :) Heh. Good puppy lady, I'm a good puppy lady....

My little terror got recognition. I'm as pleased as punch.:D

Ok I've got to get a life. :)

*shakes head* no, no. You don't need one now, you have a puppy.

Shawnee123 10-31-2008 07:15 AM

Way to go, puppy lady! :)

Treasenuak 10-31-2008 08:00 AM

Happy... Living with a self-proclaimed lifestyle bachelor, and yet STILL wrangling permission from him to COMPLETELY rearrange his house while he's out of town this weekend. WOOT!!

Shawnee123 10-31-2008 09:11 AM

End of week 2 of my new job. I love it here!

Got my first paycheck today!

My brother forwarded a letter from my nephew who just left for basic training.

The election is almost over. (Hey, I don't know why I can't stay out of the politics threads when it irritates me so.) ;)

The sun is shining and my peace lily a friend at my old job gave me is sitting in the window and looks happy.

It's a good day! :)

Oh babba, I am so happy for you.
Sounds like the bedding in has begun.
And even if there are some hiccups, it sounds like you're over the immediate stress.

I am happy, happy, happy. I am wearing a Mrs Lovatt skirt (which has been admired) and in approc 7 hours time I will be costumed up and watching Creme Brulee.

Expect a countdown :)

Shawnee123 10-31-2008 11:01 AM

Thankee thankee!

Can't wait for the pics!

limey 10-31-2008 12:52 PM

Huh? Ok , what am I missing?

:: points:: Up top, next to the monkey.

Clodfobble 10-31-2008 02:42 PM

Probably need to clear your cache to see it. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools --> Internet Options and click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files. It'll probably take awhile to clear everything. Then refresh the Cellar.

limey 10-31-2008 02:43 PM

Ah hah! (I just refreshed the cache/screen) - F A B UT!

Pico and ME 10-31-2008 03:15 PM

I cleared my cache/refreshed and I still dont see it. :sniff:

I feel so left out.

ETA ----> Oh Yay. I changed skins..that was the ticket.

classicman 10-31-2008 03:19 PM

I had the same problem. Had to manually clear cache in firefox then close and reopen to see it.

Pie 10-31-2008 03:40 PM

Lovely, UT -- I hadn't seen it either.

lookout123 11-02-2008 04:02 AM

Our last guest just left. For our anniversary Mrs L asked to host a halloween party without budget constraints. We had about 70 people tonight from 6PM to 3 AM. Most everyone was associated through soccer somehow with a few randoms thrown in.

We had a blast and a lot of people in the neighborhood finally socialized for the first time in 5 + years.
The kids had a blast. The adults enjoyed themselves enough that they left asking when the next one would be. I'm hammered and I have probably an hour and a half clean up left before bed.

g'night.

DanaC 11-02-2008 05:43 AM

awesome Lookout:) sounds like the best fun

HungLikeJesus 11-02-2008 11:48 AM

We also had a Halloween party. Case and Mac_tire even made it (they had a long drive); they were Vikings; I hope they had a good time.

lookout123 11-02-2008 12:47 PM

the pillaging kind or the purple kind?

The pillaging kind, with short skirts.

I'd post a picture, but they didn't sign the waiver.

sweetwater 11-02-2008 08:06 PM

Just returned from the chili cook-off held in Terlingua - and I got to be one of the judges! YUMMY. Also had a camera interview from somebody for something who wanted to know about the best properties of a good chili. Like I'd know! :D

TheMercenary 11-03-2008 04:54 PM

By this time Tuesday we should be very close to being done with this election thing.

It was excellent. We very much enjoyed the party.

pic is here.

lookout123 11-03-2008 10:19 PM

Election cycle '08 has less than 24 hours left. Yeehaa!

Of course, it will be immediately followed by Bitch and Moan '08, and Recriminations '08. The timeframe on those vary based on the winning party. (We're almost done with Bitch and Moan '00)

Even better news? We won't start election cycle '12 until January 21, 2009.

Aliantha 11-03-2008 11:01 PM

We just had our half way scan. Our little BOY is looking perfect and healthy.

That's definitely something to be happy about. :)

lookout123 11-03-2008 11:42 PM

congrats!

Aliantha 11-03-2008 11:45 PM

thanks lookout. :)

lookout123 11-03-2008 11:46 PM

I've been watching your thread but not commenting. i'm a little superstitious about pregnancy stuff. ;)

Aliantha 11-03-2008 11:52 PM

It's ok. I think most of us are.

Things seem to be pretty good though. Another few weeks and the baby could even survive and early labor. I"m sure that wont happen, but it'll be nice once I get past that 24 week barrier. Every week after that, the baby's chances improve exponentially. :)

Treasenuak 11-04-2008 10:43 AM

Congrats, Ali! Names yet??

I am tickled PINK that I finally have a sewing machine (a Bernina, for those of you who know about this kind of thing) and am all set to start creating SCA garb. YAY!! Plus, I start my new job on Thursday... double yay! Now I just need to find babysitter. That's not going so well.

Bullitt 11-04-2008 11:04 AM

The campaign phone calls will end (for a bit) after today.. yessssss.

Yesterday alone I got 8 automated and 2 live body calls to the house, 2 to my cell phone, and a few more pamphlets in the mail box.
One had the gall to call at 10:30PM.. I could have reached through the phone and shoved her cue cards down her throat.

Shawnee123 11-04-2008 11:07 AM

Heh, there's an advantage to having a cheap ass tracphone instead of a real phone, cell or landline.

10:30? Eeeek, I get irritated when friends call after 9 pm, because I was taught that was rude unless it's really important.

And poli-calls are exempt from the do not call list.

I think that is wrong wrong wrong.

Stress Puppy 11-04-2008 11:13 AM

Got more new cards yesterday, and today is my birthday!

The joys of a swing state. :right:
My boss out in WY only uses bag phones for that very reason, he has 5 or 6 stored as backups when one eventually dies.

Shawnee123 11-04-2008 12:54 PM

hehee...

What do you think will happen with the Casino issue, Bullitt?

It probably won't pass. At least in my area, there has been a strong campaign against the casino and only a cheesy weak one in favor of it. The girl saying "i'm about to be laid off and i need this casino job or else who knows what will happen to me!"
I voted no mainly because of this statement in the Akron Beacon Journal: "More, studies of gambling have shown that for every $1 in economic benefits, there are roughly $3 in costs, most notably in the form of families ruined at the gaming tables." There's also the whole tax and monopoly issues to consider.
It reminds me of the whole lottery and school funding thing.

glatt 11-04-2008 01:26 PM

Schools are closed today, so my wife brought my kids into the city for their dentist appointments. Then they swung by my office to meet me for lunch. We ate in the dining room here, where everyone was thrilled to see my wife (she used to work here 10 years ago.) Then we swung by to visit my boss. It's always good for my boss to see my lovely family just before raise and bonus time in a few weeks. Got to keep it fresh in her mind that I'm supporting a real family and can use any scraps she can toss me. A very nice visit.

A healthy baby is something to be very happy about, and I'm happy for you.
Now, better start playing him Judy Garland records, so at least you'll still get to go clothes shopping with him in 20 years time!

Seriously, I'm very glad all is well x

Chocolatl 11-04-2008 04:16 PM

I just registered for my last ever semester of college!

Well... not ever. I'll probably come back for a master's in a few years.

I just registered for my last-for-a-while semester of college! Woo!

limey 11-04-2008 04:16 PM

I've got my first freelance translation assignment since changing my employment from full-time to part-time plus freelance ...:jig:
So if I seem to be taking an unhealthy interest in roads construction over the next few days, you'll know why ;)

Actually it's quite funny you should say that. When we left the doctors office, I was grumbling to Dazza about another boy in the house and then I said, "but you never know. He might be gay. That's almost as good as a girl."

HungLikeJesus 11-06-2008 12:00 AM

Last week I put new tires on my motorcycle and just came back from a ride.

Nothing fell off.

It's 18°F, with 30 mph wind gusts. My hands are numb.

Maybe something did fall off.

Pie 11-06-2008 07:46 AM

We made a bid on a third house. :fingerx:

@Ail: glad to hear all is well. But please tell us you'll love your son even if he isn't gay. :D

Shawnee123 11-06-2008 07:54 AM

lol...I remember the part in Heathers at the jock boy's funeral. His dad says "I love my dead gay son." What a great dark comedy.

Good luck on house number 3, Pie. Isn't three a charm?

I do think this one might work out, as the sellers seem motivated. And we got a wee nibble on the one we're selling in NJ. Everything seems to happen all at once.

Shawnee123 11-06-2008 11:42 AM

Everything happens for a reason. KIDDING, I KID! :bolt:

Hope it all works out, Pie.

This one will be made of brick, right? So the big bad wolf [no relation to our wolf] can't blow it down with a-huff and a-puff.

sweetwater 11-06-2008 03:30 PM

The gym sponsored a health fair, so my workout friend and I returned and got stuck for cholesterol and blood sugar. Mine was good! And the bloodmobile was there so I gave 'em a pint*.

*Probably the fastest weight loss I've had by going to the gym ;)

Treasenuak 11-08-2008 08:31 AM

The dog is home!!! (Posted about her missing in the "upset" thread) Someone found her off wandering, saw the name of the vet she goes to on her rabies tag, and took her to said vet's office. The vet called HM's ex-wife, the ex-wife called HM, and HM called me. So I went and picked her up. She DID have to go to work with me, but fortunately the manager was nice and let me keep her in a grooming kennel so she wouldn't have to stay in my car for five hours. She's now pressed against my leg getting petted and being told Daddy will be home tomorrow and she's in BIG trouble!!

Pie 11-08-2008 09:12 AM

:jig: So happy for you, Treas. It is devastating when a pet goes missing.

Treasenuak 11-08-2008 10:17 AM

Thank you, Pie! She managed to avoid picking a fight with a coyote while she was gone, so that's even BETTER news lol!

Sundae 11-08-2008 01:29 PM

Congrats Trea - I personally know how it feels to have a beloved pet go missing. But mine didn't come back.

Remind HM to change the details at the vet's when he gets back.

I'm happy because I've found Harry Hill's TV Burp on youtube. It's about the only tv programme I miss on a weekly basis, and I was annoyed to find it wasn't on ITV catch-up. But in fact it's far better being on youtube because as Dana mentioned on another thread, ITV catch-up is far worse quality!

I have about 3 weeks worth to watch now - a veritable Burp feast.
