No, it was my turn last week.... and the week before.... and, if memory serves, the week before that as well. :)

Sadly, I do not. AARP beats Reader's Digest, National Geographic, and the rest of the pack, hands down.
I receive their crap almost daily. :(

I replaced the battery in my iPhone 4S with a $9 ebay cheapie last night. It was meticulous work, and I even bought a cheap magnification visor to enable me to see the tiny screws. But it was fairly easy. Charged the phone overnight, and the battery is performing really well this morning. My contract is up in January so I had to make this phone last until then. The original battery was basically shot. It would give me a day in standbye, or about 45 minutes of use. The new battery has given me 45 minutes this morning and is at 97%.

Gravdigr 10-26-2014 03:06 PM

Please don't leave that cheapie battery charging unattended. Also don't overcharge, if you can avoid it.

Those cheapies tend to burst into flame, explode and shit. Although, I don't think they're as bad about that as they used to be.

Ugh.

Lil' Pete designed a <secret>product for a challenge brought to her university by a <secret>company. She won the design challenge and now the company is pitching it to a <secret>major retailer. She knows all the players but its a secret. :)

DanaC 10-27-2014 05:35 PM

Awesome!!

Clodfobble 10-27-2014 05:56 PM

Whoa. That's badass. Will you tell us what it is once it's actually being produced?

Griff 10-27-2014 06:02 PM

If its produced, I'll definitely pimp it.

classicman 10-27-2014 06:07 PM

Fantastic!

classicman 10-27-2014 06:07 PM

... the designing, not the pimping. ;)

Griff 10-27-2014 06:10 PM

Ha!

xoxoxoBruce 10-27-2014 09:17 PM

Most excellent, Griff. :thumb:

glatt 10-27-2014 09:28 PM

I hope to hear more in the future. Way to go!

Gravdigr 10-28-2014 04:28 PM

Griff 10-28-2014 05:23 PM

Thanks froods!

Carruthers 10-30-2014 10:03 AM

Had a PM from Sundae today.

Gravdigr 10-30-2014 03:44 PM

All good, I hope?

Carruthers 10-30-2014 03:50 PM

Yes, she seemed positive and cheerful.

Gravdigr 10-31-2014 03:05 PM

Cool!

Carruthers 11-02-2014 11:45 AM

Ebay success!

1. I ‘won’ an auction this morning. It was for a collector’s plate with an equine theme.
I bought one for a friend ten or twelve years ago, which I suspect her kids reduced to smithereens in short order.
It occurred to me a couple of months back that it would be good to get hold of one for myself.
Since then I’ve discovered that there are four in the series and, in the space of about six weeks, I’ve managed to find three of them.
I’ll probably never find the remaining plate but such is life.
I think I paid a little over the odds for today’s purchase. The starting price was a bit higher than I would have liked, but there were no other bidders so at least it didn’t go up anymore.

2. I bought a photo of the Royal Navy ship my Dad served on during the last couple of years of that unfortunate Anglo-German disagreement.
The ship was struck off charge soon after WW2 whereas Dad, at eighty-nine, is still serviceable.

The seller is in Florida BTW. Isn't the Interweb great?

Griff 11-02-2014 12:18 PM

That is cool. :)

If you tell us what plate, and what ship, you never know.

True, true.

For example, I have *you* to thank for leading me to this.

orthodoc 11-03-2014 08:42 PM

Spent 24 hours this past weekend in the Niagara region of Ontario ... wine country and tons of historical stuff. The War of 1812, earlier settlers and all that. Found an Irish shop with cable-knit sweaters from Ireland ... yes, I can/could knit one, and will soon, but for now I bought one in the MOST beautiful shades of green ... and had a cream scone in their tea room. A real cream scone with clotted cream and sliced strawberries and a smear of jam on an absolutely divine scone (it was better than any I've made, and ... don't know how to say this, but that's saying something).

And later, found a bakery with Scotch pies, Forfar Bridies, Cornish Pasties, and real butter tarts. The Scotch pies were not up to my great-grandmother's standard, but the Cornish Pasty was. And the butter tart ... hm. I'll have to revise my recipe. Notes to follow.

monster 11-03-2014 09:36 PM

what is the name of the bakery?

orthodoc 11-03-2014 10:06 PM

Niagara Home Bakery, Niagara on the Lake. They're on Queen Street.

Carruthers 11-04-2014 06:21 AM

I received a card from Sundae this morning.

Written with her characteristic eloquence and wit, it augers well for the future.

I quoted your post to a friend who lives there. She replied, "I know both shops very well and can vouch for their excellence."

I made a pretty good Olaf today.

fargon 11-05-2014 07:29 AM

What is an Olaf?

Ronnie James Dio warned ya:

There's Evil On Queen Street.

Aliantha 11-05-2014 05:20 PM

Olaf from the movie Frozen.

Just quietly, I can't believe how many people haven't seen this movie. I feel like it rules every area of my life lately. haha

Gravdigr 11-05-2014 05:44 PM

I deny "Frozen" even exists. Was waaaaaaay too tired of hearing about it waaaaaay before it came out. Tired of hearing about it since, too. Still haven't listened to the song, either.

ETA: Is it too early for humbuggery? I'll just 'harrumph', then.

Griff 11-05-2014 06:07 PM

Long long day at school. We have a "typical" UPK kid who is more involved than any special needs student I have. The district had an administrator in our room for half the day to make sure we are all about common core. We are still struggling to maintain an integrated feel with 2 half day special ed groups pushing into a full day upk. Bottom line the pm kids are not integrated at all for the last hour and a half. We are occasionally getting our lunch coverage, so we don't have to break state law every day. Why am I happy? I got a better gig with a smaller agency and gave notice last week.

DanaC 11-05-2014 06:12 PM

It does seem to have got progressively more stressful for you there.

Happy you're off to pastures new mate :)

xoxoxoBruce 11-05-2014 06:12 PM

Congrats, Griff. :thumb2:

Griff 11-05-2014 06:15 PM

Thanks. It seems like we're always doing stuff on the cheap and my gut says the saved money does not stay in the department.

glatt 11-05-2014 06:35 PM

Good for you!

Undertoad 11-05-2014 07:37 PM

Excellent.

Griff 11-05-2014 08:47 PM

Thanks guys!

Clodfobble 11-05-2014 11:30 PM

Hooray! Hope the new place appreciates your talents more...

Aliantha 11-06-2014 12:34 AM

Well done Griff. :)

Gravdigr 11-06-2014 04:07 PM

Good news, Griff. I hope the new gig works out better for you.

:cheerldr:

fargon 11-06-2014 04:10 PM

Good on ya.

orthodoc 11-06-2014 08:31 PM

Hey griff, I hope all works out well for you. Sometimes it's just time for a change.

Griff 11-07-2014 07:06 AM

Thanks all! Money wise this is a lateral move but the work will be very interesting.

I do know they really want me to stay, but the department appears to be unappreciated inside the greater organization. The organization has a growth mania which does not appear to help folks do there best for clients. I've never been good with big organizations so a lot of it is probably me.

monster 11-07-2014 08:45 AM

yay griff!

It seems the business of education, is more about business than education. The philosophy appears to be, it's cheaper, more efficient, to crush the minion's dreams when they're very young, rather than going though the charade of 'you can be anything you want'. :(

It seems my grammars were broke too.

Aliantha 11-08-2014 10:54 PM

I am happy about the cakes I put out this week. The Calavera one has received excellent reviews and the customers were very happy. There is a picture in my cupcake thread if you want to see. I am just very happy with how things are going although not too impressed with the markets lately. Cupcakes are not selling as well as they used to, although my local market is still good, so I'm thinking of dropping back to just doing one per month in town here and working on cakes the other weekends.

Carruthers 11-19-2014 01:14 PM

I'm happy that Sundae called me this afternoon on Mr Bell's electric telephone.

We had an enjoyable chat and, although I always knew it, she's frighteningly well read.:notworthy

Gravdigr 11-19-2014 03:55 PM

Money wouldn't make me happy today.

glatt 11-19-2014 04:20 PM

Sorry, man. I hope things start looking up for you soon.

BigV 11-19-2014 04:58 PM

dude, you must be sick or something.

brandon4117 11-19-2014 05:04 PM

I'm getting better at programming, and that makes me pretty happy considering I enjoy it a lot.
