Well that is good news Tiki! Thank your god for small miracles. ;)

Our team won trivia night at the local pub last night.
Now we just have to decide what to do with the $40 food and drink voucher. lol I guess we'll buy one round next week. :D |
The tub now drains faster than it can fill. An hour with the snake and all the gray water filthmuck that entails didn't do the job. I have a drum trap on the tub. The drain pipe connects to the main drain of the house upstream from the waste stack and the toilet and the sink. I'd run enough hot water through the pipes to make them noticeably warm and still it was slow. We're on the city sewer system, by the way. So I stopped at the store tonight and got a couple jugs of the store brand of mondo draino. The recipe calls for 1/4 jug. I knew that 1/4 jug wouldn't even raise the level in the drum trap halfway to the top outlet, so I poured in the whole jug.
Then I went into the kitchen and started my biggest (working) pot 8 qt and a 4 qt and the teakettle all full of water all on high. The instructions on the jug said wait 15 minutes, longer for stubborn clogs. I was pretty certain that the bulk of the chemical was lounging in the drum trap, but I waited half an hour then took the boiling three plus gallons of water to the tub. As I poured it in the tub filled a little bit, but that's to be expected. The drain wasn't designed to accommodate the tub being filled by buckets of water. But when I was done pouring in the boiling water, the water flowed easily out the drain! I turned on the hot water full blast while I boiled another three gallons and it never accumulated more than a little puddle the size of a dinner plate around the drain. Success! |
Excellent! See, its the little things... :)
|
Yeah... I'd be happier, though, if it weren't so little that I couldn't see it.... /tmi

TIA! |
Only if you'll explain TIA!
I saw Spexxvet drop in yesterday and was happy to see him. |
A new family is moving in across the street. Apparently the reclusive single guy who owns the house is going somewhere for a few years to make wine, and has rented out his house to a family from Australia. My wife just called to inform me of this news. The family was at the bus stop this morning, even though they don't move in until the end of the month. They have a boy who is close to my son's age, so that's a bonus.
My wife says they seem nice. Promising. |

TIA = Thanks In advance
BigV, have you tried the Drain King? After my neighbor the plumber used one on our bathroom sink, I bought one the next time we had a clog and it worked like a charm. |
Howzat work? Linkie gives no obvious info...
|
Attach a water source to the Drain King. (It has threads for a standard garden hose. I dropped a hose down and hooked it up to the outside faucet.) Put the Drain King in the drain. Turn the water on. The water pressure inflates the rubber bit to provide an airtight seal, then zaps the clog with repeated spurting.
(Phallic puns? Go for it.) |
TIA? transient ischemic attack.
It means thanks in advance? the things you learn in the cellar! |

So...anyways... making me happy today is: I got my grade for the paper i all but killed m'self getting in the other week... mid-first *smiles* oh yeah. First draft, finished at around 10am, or thereabouts, having been up all night. No time to print off and proof read...it could have been awful. Last minute cutting and pasting, half blind from staring at the screen all night, not thinking straight and fading in and out...could have been sooooo bad. Could have been half finished paragraphs and sentences going nowhere from bad cut and paste. Could have been riven with grammatical errors...the last bits I did could just not have made sense, given they were being penned by a brain dead Dani... Whew. Another bullet dodged. |
Dani, I would congratulate the living HELL out of you if I only knew what a "mid-first" WAS. I'll just go ahead and assume it's very, very good indeed.
So - :band: :shred: |
The marking criteria goes on a 20-90% scale. Essays, assigments and the eventual degree classification work along the same scale:
degrees end up as either 3rd Class, 2nd Class (either a 2:2, or a 2:1) or 1st Class: < 40 Fail 40-44 (Low 3rd) 45-46 (Mid 3rd) 47-48 (High 3rd) 49-51 (borderline 2:2) 52-54 (Low 2:2) 55-56 (Mid 2:2) 57-58 (High 2:2) 59-61 (borderline 2:1) 62-64 (Low 2:1) 65-66 (Mid 2:1) 67-69 (High 2:1) 69-71 (borderline 1st) 72-74 (Low 1st) 75-76 (Mid 1st) 77-78 (High 1st) 79-81 (borderline Excellent 1st) 82+ (Excellent 1st). I've bolded where my essay mark was *grins* So, do how do you guys classify your degrees? |
In Fahrenheit.:D

Scores on tests/papers use A-Fs around most parts here.
90-100% A Excellent 80-89% B Good 70-79% C Average 60-69% D Below average Below 60% F FAIL. Dude, why did you even waste your time trying?? Some classes/profs use -'s and +'s, so: 80-83% = B- 84-86% = B 87-89% = B+ etc. Your grade point average is determined by the overall avarage of your grades for all the classes you have taken. Different schools calculate this differently. For example this is one way to determine a college GPA. Basically. There is such a thing as "grading on the curve" (which is a total cop-out that lazy profs use IMHO). One way this is done is to take the top score and set that as 100% and then score the rest on a 90/80/70 type scale. Ususally this is done when a prof writes tests so bloody hard that if he used the traditional scale, all his or her students would fail every exam, and the board would start looking into why he/she was such a shitty teacher. There are many other ways to calculate a curve too, most way too complicated for me to even comprehend. |
"But what about degrees?"
Pretty much you get the degree or you don't. Many (most?) colleges award "cum laude," "magna cum laude," and "summa cum laude" to the top finshers. (At my university you got those for earning a final GPA of 3.0-3.499, 3.5-3.899, or 3.9-40 respectively.) There's no US equivalent for a 3rd class degree AFAIK... the student who barely escaped expulsion and the one with a 2.99 who barely missed the "cum laude" mark would both get the same diploma. |

I want the degree that comes with the most cum.
 |
69? that's a 2:1 ....but so close to a first.....
|
I got a kitty, a little girl kitty.
|
pictures!
|
I tried to upload a picture last nite and it would not go.
|
bummer...feeling a need for a kitten.
|
I am happy because I have made another huge change in my life...last one was October when I changed jobs. Change is soooooooo hard but it feels so good and the end rewards are worth all the fear and apprehension.
I think after work I will take myself out to dinner. I've had nothing but salad for a week. I'm thinking filet mignon. Then go to bed early, and get up for my new haircut. Shawnee got her groove back. Or is working on it, anyway. |
You can do it, Shawnee!

Posting something positive to offset my post in the "irritating me" thread:
Yippee, one of my profs has agreed to write me a letter of recommendation so I can apply for some scholarships. I asked 3 of them so I'll probably get more than one, but I'm getting a late start since they're due 3/1 and the others might not have time. But this prof luuuuurves me. ;) ETA: no, not that way. ;) |

Catching up with a couple more old posts:
WTG Dana!!!!! What a relief, you must be proud. I got a paper back too, though it was probably much less work than yours. 98%. One more thing...this TIA you speak of...besides being a stroke, it's also "aunt" in Spanish and the name of the little girl in Escape to Witch Mountain. ;) Oh, and one of the Mowry twins on "Sister, Sister" and "Twitches." |
Got a VD card from mom and dad. :) Well, dad probably had very little to do with it. My 'rent's are awesome.
And, I'm going to take a nap. Just 'cause I can. |
I love curves.
|
It's the VD I could do without.
|
My ex-Father-in-Law had a major stroke and will probably be in a nursing home the rest of his life.
|
That's making you happy? Who is he, Dr. Mengele?
|
I hope you misfiled that, UT.
|
My dad went out that way too. And no, it's not making me happy today either.
|
Filed correctly. Emotional and physical abuse of his family, ruining many lives.
|
I hear you, UT. Some people you cannot care about, cannot feel sad for. Some people leave the world a better place when they stop interacting with it.
|
We just installed our new range/stove/oven/cooker and beest is cooking dinner on it RFN :D
We can has bacon again! (the broiler was bust and we're not keen on fried bacon....) |
What did you get monster?
|
A pimple is making me happy today.
|
A pimple? OK, I"ll ask: WHAT?
lmao |
lol...it's kind of embarrassing, but I thought it was something else, but it turned out to be just a pimple so it's a relief. :) It's making me happy because I can stop stressing about it. :D
|
Oh...perspective!
Well good, I'm glad it wasn't something else. :) |

How cute are Leave It to Beaver reruns?

Sounds nice. I want to get a home with gas appliances.

Val Day was freaking Awesome! It rocked. To be with someone you love and who loves you is the best thing in the world. Thanks wife. :D

I lost every single pool bout yesterday. That wasn't cool. I went into the direct eliminations bracket at 19 out of 21. Awful. Then I won my first de 15 - 5 and got my head on straight. I had to fence the #3 guy next a talented Italian style epeeist. I adjusted to his technique and took him out 15 - 11. Then I blew my next one ending up in 8th place. What looked like a nightmare day turned nicely.
|
Getting a new (uncrappy) phone in the next few days, submitting my application for graduation this week, and the sun is shining (unusual for Ohio winters just fyi).

Got a laugh from federal politics.
The deputy opposition leader and shadow treasurer had been under fire from her own party for her pretty lame performance. She stepped down as treasurer - jumping before she was pushed - and is now shadow-minister for defense. One senior figure in her party insisted that "she had exercised her prerogative as deputy leader to select the portfolio of her choice." :lol2: |
What is a shadow-minister? sounds spooky.
|
I thought they said she was going to be shadow foriegn affairs minister.
btw, have you ever listened to her in question time??? What a dope! They offered Costello the job and if he's really for the party, I think he should have taken the job. I think he's holding out for the top job though, and I reckon he'll get it before the next election. Dazza reckons he'll get it after they lose. |
Mmm...It appears as if I can daydream/fantasize again....I haven't done that in years!
Feels Good! I know it is a small thing but it matters to me........;) |
