Got a letter from my Insurance company saying after the two $44 checks I got they are going to continue to send me C-virus discount checks for the next four months. Don't have the heart to tell them about Watkins Glen in September.

Carruthers 07-10-2020 06:29 AM

I finally - FINALLY - had a haircut this morning.

I was in need of one at the time when lockdown commenced at the beginning of March, and things, not surprisingly, have gone from bad to worse.
I went through the badly thatched cottage phase some weeks ago and had become perilously close to bearing a horrible resemblance to Peter Stringfellow.

I had considered various courses of action during the interregnum, including the 'all off look', a pony tail and even, horror upon horror, a man bun.
I mentioned the latter option to a neighbour who said she wouldn't speak to me if I did that. :)

Anyway, I left behind enough hair (in a rather fetching shade of grey since you ask) to stuff a settee.
Chillingly, I also had to leave contact details which is only to have been expected in the current situation, but on balance I am HAPPY!

Oh, folks, you are in for a treat today--if you look out the left side of our rover, you'll see a beautiful specimen of Contactus tracetus, a rare beast indeed! C. tracetus can't thrive in our harsh American climate, but it does well in calmer, more level-headed habitats of the world. Get some good pictures, because you'll probably never see one of these beauts again!

This says it all.

Happy: I'm on vacation and off Bacefook!

Man, that's the epitome of adulthood joy, right there. Relax in a hammock and watch the young people have fun. Vicarious excitement without all the sunburn and sore muscles.

Power supply, perchance?

Whatever it was, I hope it wasn't expensive.

Griff 07-20-2020 07:49 AM

Back on line!

Ouch! Treble trouble.

The reason I ask is that I used to help a local computer repair bod and the first port of call for any machine that was dead on arrival was to check the power supply.

Quite often, lightning had created a surge in the overhead telephone line which took the shortest route to earth which, of course, was via the PSU knackering it in the process.

It was a quick and easy repair and relatively inexpensive.

Sorry to hear that you drew the short straw this time.

DanaC 07-21-2020 07:09 PM

I knew it wasnt the power supply, because it was drawing power - it would start the boot up process, it wold light up and sound like it was about to start whirring - then just shut down after a few seconds without ever fully booting up

I thought it would be the motor/ fan - alas not :P

Clodfobble 08-14-2020 03:45 PM

From downstairs, I hear Minifobette absolutely shouting and screaming in her room. This would be questionable in any case, but certainly while she's supposed to be in class over the computer...

So I go listen through the door, and eventually figure out that she is in class--gym class. They're doing their start-of-year evaluations (the FitnessGram Pacer Test, for those hip to the jargon,) and apparently the distance learning version involves one kid on the floor in their room doing pushups or whatever, and the rest of the class aggressively cheerleading on camera, complete with jumping, kicks, etc.

My daughter screamed, "Get it, Ethan!" like a rabid MMA fan, then coordinated the other kids in a mass cha-cha slide to celebrate his prowess.

It was super cute.

DanaC 08-14-2020 03:58 PM

That is adorable!

Griff 08-14-2020 09:24 PM

Ha! That is sweet.

Merry Birthday Foot

SteveDallas 08-31-2020 07:10 PM

Happy birthday! I should get my mom ones of those. She looooooathes slugs. She generally does not approve of alcohol, but she's happy to use beer on slugs.

What's making me happy? I just rode my bike and crossed 200 miles for July, surpassing my previous monthly record of 175.

footfootfoot 08-31-2020 08:46 PM

Thnaks Folks! I just got some salt but all the flies are hiding bc of the cold. Will report!

BigV 08-31-2020 10:30 PM

Flies flew fleeing desecration and destruction by desiccation bringing briny bloody bits basting baseboards.

Did you mean August? 200 miles is a lot of time spent peddling your ass around town. ;)

I did indeed, 175 was my count for July.

And you're correct. I'm currently usually averaging about 11mph, with occasional bursts to 12 depending on my route. There are two limits to this: my ability to pedal uphill (there are lots of hills around here, practically nothing flat), and safety constraints. Like, one of my most common routes goes past the local elementary school. There's a very slight downward slope. But it's a curve with street parking on both sides (leaving about 1.75 lanes for traffic), in a residential neighborhood with lots of kids. I could easily do 20+mph if I didn't care whether I hit a kid on a scooter or a car coming through the curve from the opposite direction.

That sounds like a section that gets plenty of concern beforehand and deserves a drink after.
I assume you're doing this for the health benefits rather than saving money on gas or some altruistic motivation. So got a new reason to want to live long?

edit;
Damn, there must be a hell of a market for salt guns, these are just a few of the V2.0 and V3.0 guns.

SteveDallas 09-01-2020 11:47 PM

Yeah, I'd kind of like to commute by bike to work, but I don't think it's practical. (You Can't Get There From Here, at least not without more traffic-heavy routes than I'm willing to deal with on my bike.) As for a reason? I have no reason for anything. If I waited till I had a reason, I wouldn't have gotten out of bed this morning. (Or any other morning.)

Just like every other Blursday here too.

footfootfoot 09-03-2020 08:36 AM

Shot two files yesterday! One simply disappeared. It was on a screen then it wasn't there anymore. Not a trace. The second one I winged and saw it spiral down like a flaming plane from a WWII (the BIG one) film.

I often wish my birthday was a bit earlier in the year. So few flies left. I'm debating leaving some rotten meat in the yard.

Griff 09-03-2020 05:13 PM

That's the spirit, meat wasps for everyone!

It me! Also this is me, from today (interview starts at 15:55, formatting stops being wonky about 16:20):

BigV 09-08-2020 11:34 PM

I mean, if Jimmy Fallon invites me, I won't turn it down. But you better believe Stephen Colbert gets priority.

xoxoxoBruce 09-10-2020 01:01 AM

How about Conan?

Clodfobble 09-10-2020 08:59 AM

Sure, he's okay, too, though I'd rather do his podcast than his show. Everyone knows an hour is more fun than six minutes. ;)
