It's more the content of the packages. This one has 3 decks of cards and the how-to for a magic trick. The one for next week has 6 decks of cards.

There's a guy with my name on Gmail. He's some kind of literature or film teacher, and I sometimes get e-mails from his students with creative writing attached. At first, I tried to point them in the right direction. I even Googled the guy, got his contact information, and explained that a lot of his students were sending their homework to me instead of to him. When it kept happening, I started just deleting their e-mails and not responding. I figured when they got a zero for not turning their work in, that would be a good life lesson for them on the importance of properly addressing things.

Anyway, today I got an e-mail from one of his students, and I was about to delete it, when I saw that he finished with "did you watch Tiger on Beat yet?"

I had forgotten all about this martial arts film I'd seen almost 20 years ago at a DC film festival, and how much I loved it. Tiger on Beat was the best martial arts film I had seen up until that point in my life, and I had been watching them whenever they came on TV, so I had a lot to compare it to. It had the most spectacular and realistic looking action sequences ever. There's even a scene with a chainsaw fight, and the chainsaws are real chainsaws that cut through wood on film during the fight scenes.

I responded to this kid, and told him that I loved the movie, but that I'm not his teacher.

So today it's making me happy that I was reminded about this great movie, and I plan to see if Netflix has it, so I can watch it again.

glatt, interesting story and thanks for the movie suggestion. I tried to find it on Netflix, but could not. I looked under "Tiger on Beat," "Lo foo chut gang" and Yun-Fat Chow, but no luck.

Forget my gripes about Diz earlier. I can't sleep, and he is say in the hollow created by my crossed legs with his face pressed up against my torso, sound asleep (twitching and dreaming). It's so adorable. And I do (adore him). I can live with red glitter for a bit.

Also, because I'm a bit down I've revisited Tiny Planets. It's so soothing. I'm about ready to sleep now. I watched it when I was off with depression, and the Word Association thread gifted me with the memory tonight. It still works.

Thinking about Christmas is making me happy today.

I've got the beginings of my design for my christmas cake in my mind, and I've started planning the lunch menu also. :)

I love Christmas. It's my favourite day of the year.

On the 24th of December, I like Christmas. Right now, Christmas is just a big ball of stress and money worries sitting on the other side of a another big bunch of stress and study worries.

I hate that the TV is full of xmas ads already. It's the one time of year I really feel broke and it gets earlier every year.

My mum bought me a magazine subscription as a present last year (OK ... I confess ... it's Good Housekeeping and I like it ... a woman can dream, can't she?) . The November issued arrived right at the end of September, in time for October as they do, and it's just Stuffed Full of Christmas! AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
So I've not opened the wrapper yet - I'm saving it for, like, er, November!
But I don't watch much telly so the ads don't get to me, and the shops here, such as they are, haven't got into Christmas yet either. YAY!

I went into my local Sainsbury's store yesterday and couldn't find a goddamned thing, on account of them moving the entire store around to accomodate Christmas.

Hely's just come in.
I was slightly worried about her - she's usually here at 08.30.
But then maybe she was - Monday to Wednesday our Finance Assistant opens the office and she's on annual leave. Hely might have turned up, decided it was one of the random days we weren't in (cats don't do weekends) and gone back home.

Anyway she's fed and curled up on her bed and I am happy.

Also I finally got a response about my wig. I'm still annoyed with them, but at least they confirmed payment was received and said that I should receive delivery Mon-Weds. Wasn't today. Better bloody be tomorrow!

ETA: My new catfood has arrived.
As has the new litter tray for Diz (see Pissing on Your Chips thread).
The tray was cheapish off eBay and the catfood is pretty much the same as buying from the supermarket - just much much better for them and bought in advance so I don't have to budget for it for the rest of the month.

Also I love the fact that as we're an hour behind now, the Dwellars come out to play earlier :)

Found out what the hole in my finances was last month.
Turns out I'd paid an invoice from my own money and not claimed it back. £125 (nearly $250). Stupid really, as that's not exactly spare change.

I was able to get through because a very good friend sent me some unexpected money. I did buy a good few things I needed (clothes airer, litter bin, pillows etc) but it didn't seem to go as far as I expected. Now I know why!

They're paying me in cash this afternoon. I'm going to buy a month's Travelcard on the way home, that'll keep the money locked up nice & safe!

*smiles* just don't do what I did last year: paid £55 for a metro card and lost it two days later!

Ah you can get Oyster Cards replaced you see - as long as you've filled in the security question (which I have). You call an 0845 number and it will be stopped immediately, the remaining balance can be transferred within the next 8 days. You just have to pay for anoter card (£3).

Which is why it would be safe, and away from my grubby paws :)

Making me happy today:

this is a follow up to something I said in the unhappy thread. I've been quite unwell for some time, with my eczema going nuts. <More than just an eczema flare, I felt like my body was breaking down. Last week, my feet and ankles started to swell up massively. I've been shuffling about in unlaced boots and in a lot of pain. Pain, but at no point would the itch subside either.

I was a little worried. It's never happened before. After 35 years of dealing with this stuff a new symptom worries me. That coupled with the pains in my chest...and the golfball glands under my arm...

Anyway, went to the docs yesterday. He thinks it's just an infection. I've got anti-biotics, stuff for water retention, steroids, emollients, anti-histimine/sedative tablets and two different inhalers.

I've allowed this to go way too far. Why I still do this aftre all these years I do not know :P I just resent going and getting medical help, it feels like a defeat...and I was scared it was something serious...

But: happy now, because I did it and have the right medications to sort out and then manage both the eczema and asthma again. Now I'm just hoping that the swelling responds to the anti-biotics. If it doesn't I've to go back and see the doctor who specialises in dermatology. I admit, there's still a little niggle of worry. I convinced myself the other night that both Pilau and I had fox mange mite (sarcoptic mange in dogs, scabies in humans). More recently I've worried about liver disease, cancer, thrombosis, edema....shall I go on>?

*rolls eyes* It terrifies me that something serious could go by and just be buried in the eczema syptoms. Sad or what?

*laughs* anyway. Am now on track. Took first lot of tablets last night had a much better night's sleep. Got up late, but feeling a bit better overall.

Glad to hear at the least you got a better night's sleep - I know how important that is. As an aside (because it's all me, me, me) Diz and I have come to a reasonable bed sharing arrangement for the first time in two years. I sleep one side, he sleeps the other. It's working really well, and he's hardly even waking me up in the mornings now, yay!

Sunday to Saturday this week, I will have played bass for 27 hours. 3 hours rehearsal with the cover band; and then for Godspell, 11-hour long tech rehearsal, 2 rehearsals, 1 dress rehearsal and 2 performances.

Good to hear it! I think I'm going to die of Cancer, but I'm totally not. I think all my trivial concerns about my health are signs that I'm terminal, but I'm not. I'm just being a freak. And I know that. There's this little part of my brain that is stupid, is all.:D My brain is an idiot sometimes. My imagination is fully retarded.

Your brain and mine should get together sometime and compare notes :P

Happy today: Marinated venison steaks for dinner, and the start of a lovely evening tradition with the housemate... reading to each other. I haz a HUGE happee!!

Oh I love that!!! No one reads to me. No one lets me read to them. Booooring!! I can't get anyone into this habit.

Of course, when you have a husband the last thing he wants is to hear your voice more. :) He doesn't view that as entertainment, more of an annoyance.

The blessed, blessed sound of two children sleeping simultaneously.

On the one hand, I feel like I should go be productive, but I really think I'm just going to follow suit and take a nap myself.

My boy has been fighting a cold for a couple days. Yesterday morning, he woke up a little blotchy. Then last night, about 20 minutes or so after putting him to bed, he complained that he was really itchy. We went up to check on him, and he was covered in welts or hives. My wife and I were both racking our brains trying to figure out why he was having an allergic reaction. He hadn't had anything new to eat, or medicine, or anything like that. Then I remembered that we gave him a new sleeper about a week ago. Normally we wash new clothes before they wear them, but he was really excited about the sleeper. It took about a week of sleeping in it every night before the exposure to the flame retardant in the sleeper reached the threshold to cause a reaction.

So we got him out of the sleeper and gave him a little benadryl. He was perfectly fine just 45 minutes later. Not a single blotch, bump, or hive. Weird.

So wash those clothes before you wear them. Especially crap made in China.

I've cleared my schedule and shut off my phones. the north london derby starts in 7 minutes.

I'll revisit either this or the upset thread based on the result.
