Awesome. Well done.

Clodfobble 08-13-2010 07:18 PM

That's great news, UT! Many a time have I wished I were in charge of contracting out some software that needed developing...

lookout123 08-13-2010 08:04 PM

Rock on UT!

ZenGum 08-13-2010 09:58 PM

:jumps on bandwagon:

You go, UT!

HungLikeJesus 08-13-2010 11:58 PM

I don't know what happened - I was standing here lost in thought and all of a sudden I was just about run over by a bandwagon.

Shawnee123 08-14-2010 08:53 AM

Stupid bandwagons, running amok. Next thing you know they'll be walking naked down Main Street.

Way to go UT!

ZenGum 08-14-2010 09:02 AM

Speaking of walking about nekkid ... I heard some strange yelling and whistling from the oval across the road, so I went out with my spotlight, just in time to light up a bloke from the footy club doing a nude run around the oval.

It's rainy, windy, and about 5 degrees. I figure he lost a bet.

There is something so very poetic about this phrase!

Shawnee123 08-14-2010 09:17 AM

I'm at work, catching up (and yeah I need to start actually working) but later there is a benefit at my club, and my best friend, her two sisters, another friend, and a friend of one of the sisters are all meeting up there. I haven't seen my BFF all summer (both of us so darn busy) so I'm really excited.

Awesome news. I would love to move to complete self-employment, right now I am about 1/3 self employed. Not counting retirement income.

Brilliant!

Undertoad 08-15-2010 11:38 AM

And when I say "netgas", I really mean "natgas", natural gas.

Griff 08-15-2010 11:41 AM

Sorta figured. This gas boom needs to be taken advantage of by locals. Well played.

Zip: The 5th Law of the Universe is that you can not make only one trip to either the hardware- or auto-parts store.

IRS just accepted my efiled 990 tax return! Due yesterday except yesterday was a Sunday. 4:20pm, the closest i've ever cut it!

YEEEE-HAH! I was worried I might have to print it and run out to the post office.....

Now, what shall i procrastinate over next? I know, cleaning the house for my birthday party! That's next on the list, the house has 10 years of crap build up and I have 5 days -plenty of time!

busterb 08-16-2010 04:51 PM

Ohboy I got a Fingerhut catalog today!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clodfobble 08-18-2010 01:33 PM

Today is "Welcome Walk" day, when your teacher for the upcoming school year visits your house. Minifob is going to be so happy to see her.

xoxoxoBruce 08-18-2010 04:45 PM

Holy cow, the teacher has to go to every kid's house in one day?

classicman 08-18-2010 04:59 PM

thats great Clod - never seen nor had anything like that.

Clodfobble 08-18-2010 06:28 PM

Nobody's bussed, Bruce, so it's all within a 1/2-mile radius of the school. 20 kids in a class, a few minutes at each house, plus a bit for traveling minus a few kids who aren't home... it ends up being a 2-hour block of time.

The cul-de-sac down my street has so many kids in every house that they just throw a little block party outside so they don't have to keep answering the door.

lookout123 08-18-2010 06:35 PM

That is a really cool idea. It wouldn't work here, but it sounds like a great thing.

But I thought he was in a special class for kids with autism? There are that many locally? Or has he moved to mainstream? Or am I totally wrong?

Clodfobble 08-19-2010 11:29 AM

There are that many locally.

Well, almost--there are about 13-15 locally, plus the class has about 3-5 neurotypical "staff kids," whose parents work for the school. They get free preschool in return for putting their kids in the class as role models. I should also note that not every single kid is autistic--there is one Down's Syndrome kid, and one kid who has another disability (I'm not sure what.)

When they say it's an epidemic, they're not exaggerating. Our school district just released a report last May showing that the number of children in the program increased 400% between 1999 and 2009. I've said it before, the numbers are going to hit 1 in 10 before people really see what's going on around them.

Wow - I wonder .... How that compares to other school districts.

I know that ours has a lot more than I realized previously.

Talked to a fellow dwellar from the western side of the country.
Its been about a year and was nice to chat with him.

HungLikeJesus 08-21-2010 12:13 AM

Is this a top secret Dwellar from the western side of the country, whose name cannot be revealed under threat of death?

classicman 08-21-2010 12:45 PM

His name was not important to the point of my post.

HungLikeJesus 08-21-2010 03:19 PM

I'm sorry classicman. I was honestly not trying to embarrass you.

classicman 08-21-2010 08:21 PM

no prob, my post read harsher than l meant.

Jaydaan 08-21-2010 09:35 PM

Spent the day with my 15 yr old. We went shopping down town, went out for lunch, and attended a Pagan Pride Day Festival.
We met several cool people, and my kidlet enjoyed the day talking with other "gifted people". It was sooo cool, people just sat down in the grass with us, opened their stone/rock bags, and shared their stones. We were given many really cool and interesting rocks. People would just come up to us, and say... ohhhh I have a stone that is yours, reach in, and comeout with a stone that *WAS* significant to us, or that we had at one time thought was neat or interesting. We came home with a beautiful Garnet, some Sunstones, 2 Dragon's tooth Amethysts, a Black and White one, I am not sure the name of... and a symbol of the goddess.

Then I went out for a few drinks with my hubby. All and all it was a great start for my weeks holidays :)

Aliantha 08-22-2010 09:33 PM

My big boys teams both won their major semi final over the weekend, so they're both going through to the grand final in two weeks time (rugby league). We're all very excited.

Clodfobble 08-22-2010 11:30 PM

Does that mean they'll be playing each other at some point, or are they in separate age divisions?

Aliantha 08-23-2010 05:40 AM

Yeah, separate age divisions, so no chance of them playing against each other.

Mav has considered trying out for the older age division, and he'd probably be selected, but it's probably more fun for him to play in his own age group.

Awesome!

classicman 08-23-2010 08:29 AM

congrats to the boys, Ali - and to mom of course.

Sundae 08-23-2010 09:55 AM

Congrats to all on good days and good things shared.

Our teachers and TAs also make home visits, but only in the first year (Reception) or class one if the child had not been in Reception. It's to help them overcome the horror of their first day at school. Although I don't think any child goes from nothing straight into a full first day any more.

When I think about what starting school was like for my agegroup it seems brutal in comparison. I was fine, but my sister cried every morning from Seeptember to Christmas apparently.

BigV 08-24-2010 12:19 PM

Wrapped my mead in glass last night.

Will unwrap some at the party this weekend.

Juniper 08-24-2010 09:17 PM

THEY WENT TO SCHOOL TODAY.

And will go back tomorrow.

And the next day.

Ahhh, sweet solitary bliss.

Clodfobble 08-24-2010 11:54 PM

Amen, sister. AMEN.

He posted this question recently on his Facebook page:

Isn't
 this a homophobic contradiction:
Folks who insist that being gay is a
choice, rejecting gay donors so as to not end up with a gay kid ?

The reason why some people are homosexual is inconclusive. While research shows that for some, it's a choice. However, there were some evidence that the brain of a homosexual person is different from a hetereosexual person.

Happy Monkey 08-25-2010 02:39 PM

Opposition to homosexuality is amazingly schizophrenic. Along the lines of that "choice" issue, there's also the question of why it matters. Are they arguing that gays shouldn't get discrimination protection if it's a choice, because the other categories aren't choices, like race, gender, disability, religion, age... wait. Religion? The one reason for their objection is a counterexample to their own argument.

BigV 08-25-2010 03:54 PM

This issue is ruled by emotion, not by logic. Using rational logical arguments only works on those that respect rationality and logic. Please note that it is not necessary to respect rationality and logic in order to use it in one's own arguments.

Just found out my daughter completed her Masters of Nursing degree
this past week, specializing in Health Care Systems,
AND ! today she was accepted into the Nurse Practitioner program.

She's been the Trauma Coordinating Manager for central Oregon,
and wants eventually to become the Director of Nursing for Emergency Rooms...
but that will be at least 3 years and many $K in tuition away.

Parents are allowed to be very proud of their kids !

HungLikeJesus 08-26-2010 01:03 AM

Yes they are.

I think there might even be a thread for that.

Lookout - youre 10% hotter now, lets get you a uniform to put on and see where things go ;)

DanaC 08-26-2010 06:12 AM

My eldest niece just got her GSCE results (the exams kids take at the end of secondary[high] school aged 16): she came away with 12 good passes; only one result was below the A-C band (she got a D in Religious Education). Everything else was As, Bs or Cs.

Which means she has achieved her college offer conditions:)

It also means, as I pointed out to her, that she is now officially a Brainy Cow and as such can no longer take the piss out of me for being brainy :P She strenuously denied this but she did so with a very big smile on her face *grins*

I'm so proud of her. She's growing up into such a lovely young woman. She's one of the most balanced teenagers I've ever met. I keep waiting for somekind of mad rebellion but it doesn't look like that's going to happen *chuckles*

xoxoxoBruce 08-26-2010 08:06 AM

She doesn't need the rebellious act, she gets street creds for her crazy politician aunt, with the muzzled killer dog. :lol2:

DanaC 08-26-2010 02:06 PM

*grins*

Thing is; our Meels tends to talk about herself as if she isn't clever. Possibly because coming up behind her is a little sister who is terrifyingly intelligent. It's nice for her to get a chance to show off her mad leet skillz in a nice visible way.

ZenGum 08-26-2010 09:43 PM

I'd be proud to get a D in religious education but nothing else.

The self-deprecating behaviour is a bit of a a worry, though.

Juniper 08-27-2010 01:21 AM

Workin' on a novel. Been writing it over and over to figure it out, got 51K words in and started over. Twice.

Now I've got a good Chapter One that I don't plan to change and have worked out a few of the plot holes that held me back. Yay!

It's all probably self-indulgent drivel but dammit, I'm going to create QUALITY self-indulgent drivel. :)
