Are you having a bad day my little duckling? ;)

You just need to think happy thoughts and they will manifest themselves. It says to in The Secret.

States all around us pay ~ $22,000/yr in-state tuition at their state university. University of Illinois is $32,000/yr. It will actually be cheaper to pay out-of-state tuition at some other state U.

It's pissing me off. What a fucked up state.

Pie 03-23-2010 03:13 PM

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around those numbers, Pete. The inflation in health care is getting whomped by the inflation in education costs.

Another reason I'm glad I don't have kids.

monster 03-23-2010 03:20 PM

Another friend with breast cancer. WTF is it with this fucking disease? Every time a woman in her 40s get it, they are told they are "so young" and yet... all the women I know who've been diagnosed recently are in their 40s. with kids my age. In a school of 400 children, there have been t least 8 moms diagnosed in the past 5 years -and these are moms of the kids I know -my kids' peers, so it's probably more like only 200 children. Over 5% of families. Is that ridiculously high? or does it just seemlike it. I don't remember anyone's mom having breast cancer when i was a kid, but maybe it just wasn't talked about and they wore wigs :(

glatt 03-23-2010 03:34 PM

We're hitting that age where health becomes a thing.

elSicomoro 03-23-2010 03:53 PM

I shop at Whole Foods on occasion, because they have things that I like. I just wish that fewer douchebags shopped there. Every time, it seems like the place is full of...mental midgets.

(Ha! I've missed that word.)

They also didn't always have the screening options we have; many died quickly and brutally. The lady who would have been my mother-in-law (had she lived) was diagnosed in late September. She was dead by mid-December. She didn't 'believe' in doctors, you see.

I'm sorry about your friend, Monnie. Help her get through this.

monster 03-23-2010 04:15 PM

I wish they'd stop lying and saying 40s is young. It's not. Seems to be the prime age, especially for the non chemo-reacting type. You're probably right, Pie, about the screening. But I didn't know anyone whose mom died either. Her poor daughter is 11/12, only child. awful. She's already had surgery, just starting chemo. ugh.

Sorry, I know I'm banging on, but if I can't here, where can I?

Fuck it.

Trilby 03-23-2010 04:20 PM

sorry monster. :(

He retired. Now they're worried he's going to piss about so much it'll raise the water table.

How did that happen? geez

elSicomoro 03-23-2010 09:10 PM

That sucks, Bruce. I think they've been moving the flood zones around here and talking about fixing some of the levees. I don't know what my parents pay...they live off one of the main canals that empties into the Mississippi River.

Griff 03-25-2010 04:51 PM

Dude at work tells me "X" about a student's family two weeks ago. I think nothing of it, "X" is odd but well within the parameters of modern low SES life. I go to important meeting about student with his therapist. Dude skips meeting hmmm.... odd but we carry on. Over course of meeting "X" becomes known through bits of info from myself, therapist, and others around table. Due to previously unknown legal issue, Student now in danger of being dropped from program if "X" is what it appears to be. Bad things are now happening to kid because "X" can't be allowed to continue. Dude tells my supervisor that he wishes I had informed him of "X" before any of this occurred, so he could have helped out.

Dear Dude, Fuck You.

monster 03-26-2010 10:47 AM

ASSSSSSSSSSSSSS
HOOOOOOOOOOOLE

Griff 03-26-2010 08:52 PM

Today we began our mission of only communicating with Dude through email so everything would be time-stamped. My co-teacher popped him an email about a child issue we discussed with him last week. He called and said we never informed him last week. <insert Lords name in vain here> Dude needs a puncture. Now I wonder how much he's been shitting on us at work since we're in a satellite location and he is 10 feet from our boss.

monster 03-26-2010 08:54 PM

Here's to his timely downfall.

lumberjim 03-26-2010 10:26 PM

can we help to defame his character in any way?

have gay porn mags mailed to him at his work address?

Griff 03-27-2010 06:31 AM

That might be cleansing. I'll let you know if I need to up the ante.

kerosene 03-27-2010 03:02 PM

Does it count as a grudge when the person continues to renew the stuff that pisses you off? You know, like once you are over it, they go and do something else shitty to you?

jinx 03-27-2010 03:03 PM

Good question.

xoxoxoBruce 03-27-2010 03:49 PM

What's pissing me off? When I click on this thread, and Jinx's, "Good question", is the first post on the page. Now I have to back up a page to find out what the question was.

I've got a bad feeling that I'll be considering this question down the road.

lumberjim 04-01-2010 10:09 AM

You know what's worse than being at work until 12AM and running like a rented mule?

having some cocksucker waiting for you when you get back to work at 9 am the next morning.

you know what's worse than that?

another one right after that.

I hate today

xoxoxoBruce 04-01-2010 10:21 AM

You know what's worse? Tossing and turning all night because you're so exited about picking up your new car first thing in the morning, then having to wait for the damn finance dude to show up.:p:

Shawnee123 04-13-2010 09:45 AM

I dunno, if you're too dumb to do part of a process that is a part of the process that says you understand that part of the process, perhaps you are too dumb to take out money from that process.

*all process names were changed to protect the innocent processes, and to keep my name off any googlable processes...I don't think we're supposed to call people stupid. But they are. :(

It's even worse when your emails to other staff regarding the new process for the process are ignored, then everyone is like "WHAT new website?" Uh, that one I sent you three emails about. With a big red exclamation point.

Sigh...

Classic...I'm telling you, I'll rent you half the Unabomber Cabin, if you choose to go that route. ;)

Pie 04-13-2010 09:51 AM

We had to sign my mom up with Comcrap, since FIOS isn't available in her neighborhood yet. It will be available -- two months too late.

Unfortunately, I think we have a two-year commitment to the assholes over at comcast.

Don't *rent* the Unabomber cabin when the Amish will make one for you cheap - and deliver it to your custom location!

Shawnee123 04-13-2010 05:12 PM

shhh, I was gonna buy the Unabomber Cabin, and charge c-man 20 bucks a week to sleep out behind it. How much could it cost to buy outright?

Though I do love me some Amish constructions. Actually, I already have one of those 'mini-barn' sheds depicted on the page. Well, and I don't think Amish made it.

DanaC 04-13-2010 05:31 PM

Planning committee meetings.

I quite like planning overall. But sometimes it just goes on too fecking long. Session 1 started at 14:30 and went on til 17:10. Then broke for tea in the canteen. Session 2 started at 17:50 and went on til 21:30.

Wrangling over bloody wind turbines and change of usage on extant planning permissions. And because it's election time, every bloody ward councillor wants to come and speak for or against applications, and every damned application seems to bring a crowd of public observers and petitions.
