My carpets are getting cleaned tomorrow morning! I'll take any improvement I can get, but I have secret hopes that it will be a truly miraculous change.

This is the trait I have been working on overcoming, and I don't want to lend any more credence to the idea of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Funny aside though: sometimes I'll play a silly little game in the car: the next song that comes on relates to (insert whatever event I want it to describe.) On my way to my 2nd interview, I turned on the radio and We Are the Champions was in the middle of playing, so I said "OK, the NEXT song is my omen song."

Next song was Tom Petty--"Baby even the losers, get lucky sometimes."

 Have you even known such a weirdo who isn't afraid to admit it?

That actually sounds like a fun game! I might have to use that one for road trips. I usually create mad-libs in the car. ;) Heh.

The condo sold, the condo sold, drinks for everyone on sweetwater today, the condo finally sold!
It's been a year. A year! Gotta love this economy.

:happy dance:

I have wrestled with the stinkin time zone debacle on my citrix server farm for a couple weeks now. It's been like having one last rat in the basement. It's there, you know because of the chewed boxes and the pee and the turds...

Sometimes users would login and get the right time. Sometimes not. Maddening. But today I found almost all of the solution, deleting some of the wrong entries, adding some of the missing ones. But the best I could do was one hour off on one of the servers.

Just a little while ago, the guy that works for me found reference to a registry entry that looked suspiciously like a recent malware attack suffered by this machine. We replaced the bogus reference with the correct one and all is well.

It works!

It works for admins and civilians, for rdp and ica, for same time zones and different time zones. I'm so happy I could spit.

PTUI!!

I have tendonitis!! :jig:

Why is that a happy thing you ask? Well because it means that I DON'T have carpal tunnel, and therefore don't need to have expensive owwie tests and surgery. I'm so excited! Wooo

:D :D :D

Got a phone call from a real estate agent today.
I had applied to rent a property, and of 27 applications ... they picked ME!

I offered more money. $155 to 170 per week - still very cheap for the market and location.

Since I got back I have been staying at my mum's place, which has been okay but kind of cramped.
My new place is a one bedroom maisonette made by dividing an old 1920s art deco place, with polished floor boards, with a lot more space that I am used to, in an excellently convenient location.

Photos will follow in due course.

Sundae 10-01-2008 07:15 AM

You are paying less for your maisonette than I am paying to rent a room in a house (sob)

Clodfobble 10-01-2008 01:06 PM

Yeah, that's about what an efficiency or a crappy one-bedroom apartment would go for around here.

LabRat 10-01-2008 01:44 PM

I used a sick day (I do feel like crap), slept in, drugged up and went to surprise my kid for lunch today. I felt like a giant in the lunchroom. I got to meet some of her friends, including her new best friend who seems like a really nice little girl. I also got an earful from the boy sitting across from us about how his girlfriend wants to hold his hand all the time. It was a riot. I wish I worked closer so I could do it more often.

ZenGum 10-02-2008 03:06 AM

I just scored for free an old but servicable wardrobe and sofa bed from the neighbours who were putting them out for hard rubbish removal.

These items are now sitting back on said neighbours verandah until I can organise transport to my new place. Sweet.

Any dwellars got an old fridge they can spare? Must be in Adelaide.

BigV 10-02-2008 09:59 AM

yes.

FOB Ballard.

Shawnee123 10-03-2008 02:52 PM

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG...

I was made an offer.

Let me put it this way: they offered me way over what they advertised as minimum starting. I was going to ask for a certain amount over that. They blew the number I was going to ask for out of the freaking water!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy, I can't believe this is happening. Tears of joy tears of joy tears of joy...

DanaC 10-04-2008 06:17 AM

Ohmigod Shawnee, that is fucking fantastic! You star, you!

You must have impressed the fuck out of them (unsurprisingly, you're clearly very committed to the things you do, even when you aren't happy with the job, that commitment will no doubt shine through in interviews). You totally deserve this. I suggest you revel in it to the max and, dare I say it, allow yourself at least one smug-as-fuck smile a day for at least the next week? :P

Sundae 10-04-2008 07:11 AM

Shawnee you superstar.
You see? The first time you've made a real effort to get away from that place and you nailed it!

You deserve it, too, which always makes it much better.

I'm really happy for you!

Or she wore her "fuck me pumps", and he couldn't say no to her hotness. ;)

monster 10-04-2008 09:52 PM

two cars in the garage again. as opposed to one on the drive and crap in the garage.

BigV 10-04-2008 10:25 PM

I found my pocketknife.

It had slipped out of my pocket, onto the floor between the driveline tunnel and the right side of the driver's seat. I *did* look in the same spot on the passenger side, and didn't think to look on the driver's side. D'oh! I'd just leaned over, negotiating the seat belt buckle, and the glint of the back of the blade caught my eye.

I'm so happy!

My mom gave this knife to me as a birthday present about fifteen years ago. It's not pretty, it's not fancy, it is sharp (frequently), and I use it every day. It's a Buck Crosslock. The original model, which I asked for very specifically as a tool I could open use and close with one hand. I love this knife.

monster 10-04-2008 10:31 PM

elastic is your friend. or at least curly keyring chains. trust me. I was a scout. I am a Dr. but most importantly, I never lose my knife. or my kids. sanity, mebbe.

BigV 10-04-2008 11:30 PM

Ok. Elastic connected to what?

My pants? My wrist?

monster 10-04-2008 11:33 PM

whatever you ain't gonna leave at home when you want your knife....

Or a landmark close to where you usually lose it. trail of breadcrumbs style

i attach everything important to my keyring. that way it's big enough to be hsrd to lose, and important enough that I can't venture far without it.

Elastic allowa me to use it without detaching...

BigV 10-04-2008 11:53 PM

Not seein an answer here... I'm not going to attach it to a bungee on my belt. And that's where it fell from last time. Just plain fell out of my pocket. The seats in the VW are low, my knees are higher than my hips and the knife fell out.

I won't attach it to my wrist. That's just not going to work. I dont' see how a tethered knife will work. Keys, sure. Use them in some specific situations and back to the spot. But a knife isn't used that way, not by me anyhow.

The right answer is to put it back when I'm done with it. When I break that rule, I get what I deserve. I just don't like it. And frankly, it's still in daily use after fifteen years, I'm doing pretty good for one knife. I've been through a lot more keys and wallets since then.

I just hate it when I misplace it.

ZenGum 10-05-2008 04:46 AM

Can we have a picture of your knife, BigV?

I am just setting you up for the "that's not a knife ..." line.

Sundae 10-05-2008 05:41 AM

I've crunched some Rennies, glugged some Gaviscon and simply just waited a while. I no longer have heartburn.

I don't like the fact it's obviously waiting in the wings, but I'm so relieved to be rid of it for now!

I'm seeing a trend here. Is there something about Moms and pocket knives?

Did she give you a penny to go with it? My Mom claims not to be superstitious, but she gives a penny with knives so as not to "cut your luck".
