Saturday (the 15th) The Wife and I celebrated her birthday.

squirell nutkin 05-19-2010 09:29 PM

All day long a song was stuck in my head, but I couldn't quite remember what it was. I also couldn't begin to describe it to some one.

Just realized it was "Seven Nation Army" by the white stripes

Have you seen It Might Get Loud?

Jack White, The Edge (U2) and Jimmy Page discuss the guitar, discuss their guitars, build guitars and play music.

I watched it last week and liked it a lot more than I expected. We even watched all the special features.

It's best watched with big speakers.

Nice! I'm not quite sure what is encouraged where I work.

We have a charity box at work and sometimes I think they put the chocolates in there that the companies haven't been able to sell elsewhere...occasionally, you'll get things that you don't see regularly in Oz like Reese's peanut butter cups. Other times, you get chocolate which is obviously old as it's gone white.

There's a little cafe across from our offices.

They have dubbed me "Miss Coffee."

I enjoyed that. I especially liked the Jimmy Page stories about recording in that old mansion. And The Edge showing how he uses various equipment to play accompaniment with the reverb coming from his own guitar was neat too.

Jack White stepped on a guitar to play it. He was the weak link of the three.

Are you high!!?
Srsly glatt, put down the pipe. Jack White oozes talent - guitar isn't even his thing and he KILLS it. While the edge strums chords and twists knobs. The edge didn't even PLAY anything when they were all together because there weren't enough effects machines to make it more than strumming a chord. Gah!

Not weak:

glatt 05-20-2010 10:16 AM

Can't see the video you posted while I'm here at work.

I'll admit Mr. White can play the guitar better than I can. I'll give him that. He has talent. But of the three, he was the weak one with the least appealing music.

keep in mind that Jack is the only one of the three that has to divide his attention because he's also singing and playing keyboard.

scary talented, in my amateur musicians opinion.

jinx 05-20-2010 10:24 AM

Especially since he's actually a drummer.

HungLikeJesus 05-20-2010 10:51 AM

I'm with Jinx on this one. Plus, Jack is from Detroit, which gives him extra points.

I thought The Edge looked the most out of place when they were all on the stage together.

Shawnee123 05-20-2010 10:55 AM

Drummers make great keyboard players.

I swear you guys have had this same exchange already. I even made one of those videos with your dialogue only it got lost during the save. I almost want to go back and re-do it.

Almost.

jinx 05-21-2010 09:30 PM

Three weeks of school left! WOOOOO! I can't believe I have actually survived this long. Or perhaps, more appropriately, that all of my students are still alive.

Less than five weeks until Kitsune and I close on our first house! (WOOOO! AAAAAAGGGGHHHH!) We bought new construction, so we're waiting for them to finish it up so we can move in. Then will come the challenge of trying to furnish it...

HungLikeJesus 05-23-2010 10:19 AM

Last night we were in our local bar for dinner and we played songs from all three "It might get loud" bands (Jack White, U2 and Led Zeppelin) on the juke box.

I recently got a turntable through Freecycle, so when we came home we got out a lot of old vinyl and played that until late into the night.

I'm happy that the neighbors houses are all far away.

squirell nutkin 05-24-2010 06:53 PM

I am trading a year's membership at our local yoga studio for a few days of photography.

Very psyched.

monster 05-24-2010 08:41 PM

very cool.

ZenGum 05-25-2010 06:53 AM

I got some feedback from a student to whom I had explained a variety of writing skills. Her assignment went from fail/resubmit to high distinction.

That, Zen, is freaking awesome!

TheDaVinciChode 05-25-2010 07:45 AM

Finally got my dishes done!

(Been delaying them, the last couple of days... I'm lazy when it's hot.)

Yeah, not much else to be happy about. I shall bring this thread DOWN with my poor excuses to be happy, and my obvious sorrow! :mad2:

Trilby 05-25-2010 07:47 AM

TheDaVinciChode has been using a lot of frowny face smilies (oxymoron alert!) in his last few posts.

He's on report.

Yesterday a C-130 Hercules buzzed my house twice. Actually, the whole neighborhood, but directly over my house and very close. Very cool. The Inch practically imploded with delight.

I will go outside later and try to calculate its altitude by referencing the point it disappeared behind the trees and my distance from those trees, my height, their height, etc.

It was very close though, a few hundred feet at most.

HungLikeJesus 05-28-2010 05:17 PM

Next time have your laser pointer ready, sn.

squirell nutkin 05-28-2010 05:39 PM

We just had a spontaneous party, with some neighbors and some friends from down the hill.

We ate lots of meat.

Shawnee123 05-31-2010 05:00 PM

5 hours, in and out of the pool at my older brother's, playing with my nieces. Oh, and the wiffleball with young and old nieces and nephews, and the shrimp boil, even though I don't like shrimp, and lots of funny friends and family.

Life is good.

The thought of sleeping, at the end of the day.

That sounds great... yeah, that makes me happy. Good night.

(Although, I can't actually go to sleep, for another 8-9 hours. Poo.)

Wow, jinx, that's great! I actually came here to post that we just discovered a similar thing... except with a minimum order amount they will deliver to your house once a week! The really awesome thing is they feature duck eggs, and rumor has it many people who are allergic to chicken eggs (me and Minifob) can actually tolerate duck eggs just fine. I'm so psyched to try cooking with them...

fargon 06-03-2010 04:04 PM
