HungLikeJesus 01-24-2009 10:44 AM

So that's what you look like in your casual clothes.

Sundae 01-25-2009 05:37 AM

That's enough to make me happy too!
Hello darlin'

Shawnee123 01-25-2009 08:43 AM

Hi! :)

wood*nymph 01-25-2009 01:19 PM

yay! the kids' daddy just found my glasses...all the way across the house by the back door...

the nose pads got a bit mangled but at least I don't have to rely on my contacts to be able to see now

sweetwater 01-25-2009 06:55 PM

We went to a dog show today and bought matching leads for the pups, and visited with some other dog lovers. Good times.

Pie 01-25-2009 08:31 PM

We're finally all in our new house. The old house is empty.
Now, if we unpack one box a day, it will all be unpacked... by the end of July.

TheMercenary 01-25-2009 09:45 PM

I hate moving.

BigV 01-25-2009 09:55 PM

I'm not exactly happy. But *relatively* speaking, I'm happier than I've been lately because I like talking with smart people. I had a little bit of that today.

limey 01-26-2009 03:34 AM

Good to see you in this thread, BigV, albeit cautiously!

ZenGum 01-26-2009 05:42 AM

Happiness? Chocolate .... ice cream ... mmmmmmmm.

limey 01-26-2009 07:25 AM

Homemade cheese scones ...

Shawnee123 01-26-2009 07:30 AM

So true. I thought I had factored in my obsession with all things internet. Perhaps the newness will wear off. In the meantime Z.Z. Snifflesnout is getting a lot of Toontown time. :)

Can I have them as part of the cookie exchange? Nom, nom, nom.
I'm going to make Spiced Apple Cake tomorrow, I think.
I'll document it, in case it turns out well. By no means a given with this particular recipe book.

TheMercenary 01-26-2009 11:58 AM

Buffalo Burger and a salad.

Prolly. I'll need your new address though! PM me and we'll see!

Cicero 01-26-2009 09:06 PM

Hey the Shaw has the net! :) Awesome.........

Shawnee123 01-27-2009 07:30 AM

SNOW DAY.

I was almost to work when they called it. The interstate is nasty, so I can't imagine the side streets and back roads.

I had no trouble turning around and heading back home. :)

TheMercenary 01-27-2009 01:31 PM

The weather finally got to near 70 today. Mornings are heavily fogged in til about 8 or 9. The sun is out for the first time in about 3 days. Beautiful.

dmg1969 01-27-2009 01:35 PM

The fact that I took a vacation day tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be shitty (snow, sleet, freezing rain). I'll sit at home and watch it...not drive in it.

I'm hoping for Snow Day 2.

Yeah, I'm spoiled. But I've paid a few dues. ;)

Me too! Except I would have been walking in it to the subway.

Kaliayev 01-27-2009 01:41 PM

Cracking open a new bottle of scotch.

dmg1969 01-27-2009 01:42 PM

Yeah, I'm tired of this mixed precipitation crap. What ever happened to a good, old-fashioned blizzard? :headshake

sweetwater 01-27-2009 03:25 PM

The cat is improving. She's not getting any younger but her breathing is easier and the vet is satisfied with her progress. Another injection, syringe of meds, pill every 3 days, and she will probably live to pester me for a long while yet.

We have a sleety thing going on now.

I think I have enough supplies. Let it snow. :)

Supplies has two Ps
and beer has two Es.

COINCIDENCE?

Shawnee123 01-27-2009 05:50 PM

I think not.

TheMercenary 01-27-2009 05:55 PM

Completely fogged in. Sherlock Holmes is out there somewhere chasing the Hound.

Aliantha 01-27-2009 07:29 PM

Iced Coffee...specifically the special iced coffee I make for myself.

Two teaspoons of instant coffee and two of raw sugar with a 1/4 cup of boiling water. Mix well then pour over two scoops of full cream icecream in a large glass. Top up with full cream jersey milk then top with wipped cream and dust with chocolate.

I've been having cravings for these the last few weeks. Thank goodness I'm able to resist most days or I'd be as big as a house. So far I've not gained any weight during this pregnancy, but I fear these cravings will take over and I'll put on the 10kg or so I normally would have all in the last couple of months!

Shawnee123 01-28-2009 05:04 AM

Snow Day 2.

Oh boy, it's like being back in elementary school. Get up, turn on the news (or the internet now) see your school is closed. Go back to bed.

monster 01-28-2009 07:11 AM

no snow day here. that's a good thing 'cause wednesday is my day -figure-skating class then lunch with my friends :D

...still had to shovel a couple of inches, though, and it's still coming down....pretty fast now, in fact.

sweetwater 01-28-2009 07:28 AM

Stopped to chat with a neighbor yesterday and she asked if I could take a donation to help save the local theater. Yes, I can do that!

Am sat in the spare room on the 'puter.
New load of semi-dried washing on the airer.

Happy 1 - my Dad listened to my advice re not tumble-drying clothes. My Mum always listens to things like that, but Dad is a stubborn bugger. But in her absence he part-dried these and put them on the airer (we're talking saving electricity here - because it's their highest bill).
Happy 2 - the room smells of clean washing. This is very comforting.

DanaC 01-28-2009 09:26 AM

I started a new module today looking at memoirs and autobiographies. It's going to be interesting I think. I really like and admire the tutor. He did last year's course on early trade unionism, and I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Ohmigod, Shawnee is the Cheshire Cat?

Shawnee123 01-28-2009 11:05 AM

I had a cat when I was young I named Cheshire.

I like this...I'm changing my usertitle. ;)

DucksNuts 01-28-2009 07:00 PM

My parents.....because I'm unemployed, they think I am poor....so I came home this morning to find *someone* had broken into my house and put food in my fridge. I only shopped yesterday, so its packed in there now.

Homegrown tomatoes on toast....yummmm.

Oh and, Im all set for the Tman to start school on Monday :) Uniform bought, and labelled, stationary collected from the newsagents and labelled.

I worry about him though, how will he know what to do at playtime? what if he forgets where to go to class? what if....what if???

Aliantha 01-28-2009 07:02 PM

He'll just follow all the other kids. No need to worry. He probably wont even miss you after the first two minutes. ;)

Very exciting though huh?

DucksNuts 01-28-2009 07:11 PM

Im not worried about him missing me, he's been in care since he was one and kinder all last year....its more him having to be totally independant...but yeah, its exciting.

Addison starts kinder on Monday too.

ZenGum 01-29-2009 05:57 AM

I thought it was only Sydneysiders that said "kinder". It's kindergarten over here. Not that any kinder was going out in the actual garten today, mind you.

Pie 01-29-2009 09:00 AM

Woooh hoo - the lab was closed yesterday! So me not going in was PERFECT! I didn't even have to take the day off! :jig:

glatt 01-29-2009 12:06 PM

Yesterday was my wife's birthday, and I took a planned day off. It worked out well, because school was closed, so the entire family got a day off together in the middle of the week. It was a good time with the family and nothing planned.

We had ordered some home office furniture from LL Bean, and UPS delivered it yesterday morning. They also delivered a space saving LCD monitor I ordered on Newegg. So it gave us something to do, putting this small corner desk together and a little side table thing. And moving the PC upstairs. We're moving our home office out of our guest bedroom and into the nook in our upstairs hallway. The guest bedroom is slowly being converted into our daughter's bedroom. She's in 4th grade now, and it's really time that she stop sharing a room with her little brother. We just have to move some junk into our basement and figure out where to put the filing cabinet.

So I'm happy because yesterday was so good, and productive.

bluecuracao 01-29-2009 12:37 PM

MonkeyBoy cracks me up; I don't know what I would do without him.

This morning, he came up to me and said, "I made a snicky-snack for you to take to work. French toast, and an apple."

"I made the apple from scratch..."

(Turns and walks down the hall.)

"...Just call me GOD."[/movie trailer voice guy]

Cicero 01-29-2009 01:29 PM

That sounds like me.........lol!

"I made this apple from scratch!"

Sweet.........
That's too cute....

Without a doubt. You've seen the pictures and the smile. It's obvious.

But I was thinking of the Descarte joke.

The bartender asks Descarte if he'll have another drink. He says, "I think not", and disappears.

(René Descartes is famous for the quote, "I think, therefore I am.")

Finally, finally, finally.... It looks like my Great Aunt's house might be sold.
Means nothing to me (it won't trickle down as she has 4 siblings still alive) but she made my Mum executor of the will, and it's been really tough for Mum to get everything sorted.

There was an offer on the house, which the four accepted, only to find at the very last minute that they couldn't sell because no-one had the Deeds. The solicitor never said a word until contracts were about to be signed. This went on for a while even though Mum asked the solicitor whether he had checked her bank when the issue came up.

Oh, yeah! The bank had a sealed envelope belong to [Great Aunt]! Could Mum go to London with copies of all docs and identification to collect it?

Yes , it was the Deeds. I mean we did make a day of it, visiting Nan's grave and Mum's grandparents' grave, and having pie n mash in Barkingside, and buying proper bagels just before the bakery shut early (it was a Friday). But then Dad had to drive down to Billericay to drop the Deeds off. Followed by another phone call and email.

They now accept Mum has the right to sell the house on behalf of the siblings, but in the mean time, house prices have gone through the floor. Alice died a year ago next week. All the delay in between (not just this, other issues which Mum has chased and chased and chased) has been down to the solicitor. The Deeds thing is minor, but it's been like this all the way along. WTF are they being paid for? They even told Mum she should be claiming for her time (she should!) but she refuses because she is working for family - all she will take is expenses on travel costs. Lord knows how much it has cost her in phone calls, letters etc.

Anyway, it looks like they will be able to sell if they acept a £15k drop in price. Mum called all the siblings tonight and they are all of the same mind - just get rid of it! Grandad is the poorest, but hates what his daughter is having to go through. Well, she gets herself worked up. Two others are really very well off. The one in between could use the money, but doesn't want to play a waiting game.

I feel for Mum.
But once it's sold she'll get a lovely holiday. I'm pushing for her to have a trip down the Rhine, recreating a holiday she had while at school. Dads has never seen Germany and she'd love to go back there. And the responsibility will be off her shoulders. Hurray!

Aliantha 01-29-2009 03:51 PM

I'm happy because we're going to a nice seafood restaurant with friends for dinner tonight. I've been looking forward to it all week. :)

I think it was in this thread lookout.

I quit a couple of weeks ago.

It all came to a head when I needed time off because Tman got scalded with boiling water on new years day (he's fine and only has one more specialist appointment), but we had various appointments and days off....which made my boss even more unreasonable.

One morning I was at the hospital and my boss' wife rang and told me to get back to work as soon as I could because [boss name] NEEDED me...like wtf? what about the 5yr old...he doesnt need me?

Things just went bad to worse and I decided that it wasnt worth it anymore :)

since they get paid by time, they obviously take their time to get things done - that's how it seems to me. What a bummer about the house market - such a shame you can't sue the solicitors for the difference; but how sensible of the siblings to just say "let's sell".
Hugs to your mum and I hope she sends us a postcard!

glatt 01-30-2009 09:11 AM

My 3D glasses are here! Now I can watch Chuck on Monday and won't get a headache. Oh and that superbowl ad.

It's the little things.
