I love YouTube.

It's like the Holiday Inn Express, but actually makes you smarter.

I cut my son's hair this afternoon.

I gained the confidence to do so by watching Youtube videos. I see minor flaws in the haircut, but that's as it should be. We should have a reason to pay the pros to do it. He's happy though, and so am I. I used a pair of old dull clippers my dad used to cut my hair with when I was a kid, and a brand new barber's pair of scissors I drove an hour to purchase from a curbside pickup hair supply place.

Nice work. Those old fashioned clippers sound like a buzz saw. OSHA may require everyone in the room to have hearing protection. They probably zip right through the heavy layers though.

I got tired of going to the barber for just a trim around the ears and cleaning up the back of the neck; so, I bought some full size clippers (not trimmers). I've been doing that myself using the medicine cabinet mirror in conjunction with a large rectangular handheld mirror to see what I'm doing. Works great! I don't have to make a trip to the barber's so often. I still have a head full of thick hair and it keeps it from looking ragged.

FWIW, I did my homework and researched the various models of clippers offered by the major brands. I settled on one and after 4 years of use I can highly recommend it: https://www.amazon.com/Oster-Speed-P...687333&sr=8-1& (industrial strength, made in USA).

I tried to buy new clippers, but amazon wasn't shipping any until late May or June. So I looked up a local beauty supply chain called Sally's and was checking out what they had. There's a Whal Peanut model with hundreds of really good reviews for $50 or so. The stores are only doing curb-side pickup.

None of them were answering their phones except one over half an hour away. And they didn't have the clippers or scissors I wanted in stock. I had selected a $20 pair of scissors (highly rated) but they only had a $60 pair left in stock. So I tripled my budget on that one. And the $50 clippers were not in stock either. Only a $125 cordless variety.

I decided to make do with the dull old clippers instead of paying the $125 extra.

I just wanted a haircut, not to spend almost $200. Our barber does a good job and charges $14. I can't wait for him to reopen.

I was bragging on glatt’s work to Pete just now, along with his raising a kid who’d let dad at his hair. She loved the results.

How do you like that, the hair clippers I linked to in my previous post are all gone.
