1/28/2005: Goose and goat mate

Put this one in the "SAPPY" category. The owners of this goat in Napa, CA say that the male goose here landed with the herd a few years ago, settled on this one female goat and never left her side.

The question is why she puts up with him, but I'm sure she's deaf by now.

Yup, I've got a goat and a horse that have bonded in the same manner. They both get a bit freaked out if they are not in visual contact.

I always wondered why goat's poop comes out like little marbles. They don't poop them out one at a time. It's like a trap door opens and they just come pouring out. I don't get it.

When I first looked at the picture I would've sworn the female was the one with it's mouth open doing the yapping.

This statement seems vaguely familiar. Didn't we ponder this at one time here on The Cellar?

Maybe they're just bezoar stones that don't pass inspection.

How do they know it is a male goose? Did they look under it's feathers? Geese don't have different plumage based on sex; that is, in most bird species the male will be the colorful one with the bright plumage and the female the more subtle earth tone colored one.

Perhaps, but we won't know until they get back to their northern summer stomping ground, and since this is in CA it probably flies the Pacific flyway to Alaska or Siberia.

Sounds like the kind of guy who declares boyfriend status then hangs around and is as difficult to get rid of as a burr in a patch of very shaggy fur.

Might have something to do with the goat/goose language barrier. Maybe she wants to tell him to bugger off but he just doesn't understand. Of course, a few well placed kicks should get the message across. And being female AND a goat, she should be able to do that no problem
