Happy Thanksgiving

Today is the Fourth Thursday of November. In the United States this day is set aside to celebrate Thanksgiving. On one level it is a recreation/remembrance of the first Thanksgiving in the New World, in which two cultures came together and learned from each other.

Thanks were given to God in gratitude for the survival and success of the colony. Today, too often, the "thanks" part of Thanksgiving, if not actually forgotten, is lost in the frenzy of preprations of turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, and sweet potato puff, the watching of Santa's arrival in the big parade kicking off the retail holiday season, putting up Christmas decorations, and, of course, football.

Today I am grateful for many things.

I am grateful my friends. They have supported me through some very difficult times this year, and even if I haven't been able to spend time with them, I know they are there for me.

I am grateful for my mother's continuing recovery. Slow progress is still progress. I hope that she becomes able to appreciate her improvement. I know that it is harder for her to see.

I am grateful for my sister who has been a significant source of support for my mother and myself, and who is making sure that my mother's Thanksgiving dinner isn't being made in the microwave.

I am grateful for the beauty of a crisp, clear Fall day, touched by the hand of the coming Winter.

I am grateful for joy, peace, love, hope, and faith in my life.

I am grateful for laughter and humor, and the healing that it brings.

I am grateful for The Chicago Bears outstanding 9-1 record thus far this season.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Its never not cool to say thanks.

In addition to the obvious Thanks, I'd like to thank everyone who posts in this place - agree or disagree, everyone who posts here makes the Cellar a better place.

I am thankful I have a job.

I am thankful that I can leave it now and go home, so I can sleep for four hours before I get up for thanksgiving.

I hope I become more grateful as the day wears on.

Some turkey is going to get a Presidential pardon today: I wonder if it'll be Rumsfeld?

Hah. They did the pardons yesterday. Flyer and Fryer are going to DisneyWorld. Don is going to a small island in the Carribbean without an extradition treaty.

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

What a beautiful day to wake up to.

I'm not hung-over, I'm not in jail, I'm not hungry or cold, I slept in my own bed last night, my kids are healthy and happy, a few people love me (sometimes even my kids!) I get to go to school...wow. I should count my blessings every day.

I'm thankful for my new home and my family who puts up with me while we live in it.

I'm thankful for free-thinking in the face of an often stifling culture.

I'm thankful for loving friends and broad shoulders upon which to cry.

I'm thankful for another year with a patched up heart and half of my normal guts.

I'm thankful to be gainfully employed, even if by a faceless corporation as an office drone.

I'm thankful for this incredibly beautiful 70 degree Thanksgving Day, which I was fortunate to spend with family in a beautiful place.

And, it should go without saying that I am thankful for *all* of you, my Cellar community, even those of you with whom I vehemently disagree on a regular basis.

Blessings to all of you. The bounty of the Earth is great, and we are indeed a privileged people.
