High Tech fishing...

I do a lot of poking around for the newest thing technology-wise.

Here's my latest haul:

Thanks for not hitting {esc}, Scotty: Transparent Aluminum

Quantum dots to relegate light bulbs to the Smithsonian

The Khronos Projector - Schrodinger's 15 minutes are up.

And lastly:
Quote:
In its long history, De Beers has survived African insurrection, shrugged off American antitrust litigation, sidestepped criticism that it exploits third world workers, and contended with Australian, Siberian, and Canadian diamond discoveries. The firm has ... a stranglehold on diamond distribution channels. But there's one thing De Beers doesn't have: retired brigadier general Carter Clarke.
Quote:

According to Clarke, a De Beers executive, James Evans Lombe, was tipped off about the synthetic diamonds within two hours of their arrival at the jeweler. Lombe asked for a meeting with the General. ... "When I told him that we planned to set up a factory to mass-produce these, he turned white," the General recalls. "...By the end of the conversation, his hands were shaking."

More as they come in...

The first 3 are nice, but the last one is a bit aging: it's dated September 2003 (I also remember reading about it on slashdot some time ago). Still very cool though.

Oops. I found a lot of stuff on this topic and didn't realize the article I picked for the link was so old. Here's something written last week.
