Too much red so I gave some away

Just donated blood for the first time in a long while. Had my blood work and as I take testosterone replacement therapy it tends to build your red blood cells up, mine were just a bit over the normal level. I have a physical in 2 weeks and I know that Dr. will do another complete blood workup so I figured I could see how much drawing a unit will lower the numbers.

It was super fast, the check in took longer than the draw.

How's that possible? I've given blood something like 35 times. They have a standard sized bag that they fill, and then a bunch of test tube vials they also fill so they can test it. To take too much, they would have to stick her twice. Did she let them stick her twice?

Maybe it was "too much" for her. Giving blood can sap a little energy. You are supposed to take it easy for the rest of the day after giving blood. I have a hard time with that. Lately, I give on a Saturday morning, and my Saturdays are usually pretty active and busy.

We always used to give blood but we can't here because of the CJD thing. Perhaps your mom had unrealistic expectations and didn't follow advice re taking it easy/fluids etc? I really don't think they allow "morons" to work at blood donation centers. Donors are monitored very carefully in my experience.

Dube111 said Mum, which would lead me to believe he's in Britain or one of the colonies. He didn't say how long ago this happened, or if the blood taker turned into a bat.

I should go next month. It'll be my 52nd time. I started as soon as possible 2 weeks after my 18th birthday, and only had to pause because of job-related traveling to countries on the red list.
Once in a while I get a call if I'm sure to keep with my rendezvous as they're low on A (-), which is my blood type.
This WE I gave a sample to be registered in a stem cell donor bank for people affected by leukemia.
I think it's one of the most civic acts in our society.
So congratulations to all of you who share (and to myself too :-) )

I had to cancel my last donation appointment two weeks ago because I was going to be out of town. They keep calling asking me to make another appointment. But all the appointments are during the work day. That may work for them, but it doesn't work for most of the population.

I wonder how truthful they are being when they say that they have short supplies of certain types of blood. Seems like they are always saying it is an urgent need. If I really is an urgent need, I might take vacation time to go donate, but if it's the standard marketing ploy, that's not happening. I'll donate in the fall.
