Sad Day in Pittsburgh

Today, Bob O'Conner, the Mayor of Pittsburgh was laid to rest after a 2 month battle with a rare cancer. He was only in office for 6 months, but did more for the city in that time than the mayor he replaced. He was a city councilman for many years and tried more than once to get elected. He was very hands on and was seen everywhere, even walking in dilapidated neighborhoods to show people what needed done to make them livable. He even stood at an intersection with a sign to thank people that voted for him. I lived in the same neighborhood as him for a year. More than once I saw him on the streets or in a coffee shop. He even participated in the celebration that occurred when the Steelers won the Super Bowl. Not the official celebration, but the one that occurred seconds after the final buzzer with people streaming into the streets to scream and yell into the night. He was there with the people, an unheard of thing in previous years. A sad twist that he modeled his political career after another mayor that also passed away in office. Even thought I don't live there anymore, I am still mourning with all the locals.
