Oh Happy Day!!!
I'm pretty stoked today. I got a new job. I had high hopes when Siemens bought our company, but soon it became clear that working for a strict German company that lied to us in the beginning about wanting us more than our competitors..and then bought them...wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped.
I did 2 major migrations and saved the company millions and millions of dollars and when my review comes around, I got 0%. They said I was overpaid for my job title, and I told them a year ago when they gave me the title that there was something wrong and it didn't reflect my actual job duties. I, and the others in our department, were given really low job titles because our boss thinks good management is holding your employees down. I realized after 3 years, I can't work for this guy anymore. So I looked around for another job. I've never been one of those guys who used connections rather than his own merits to get a job, but my sister-in-law happens to be a technical recruiter. She tells me about a job as the I.T. Director at a tv producer. She sends me and 2 guys who aren't very good to be interviewed. She talked me up and today they hired me!!! It's more money than I've ever made before, but the best part is that it's my shop. I get to call the shots, and do things the way I want them done. It's also an EASY job. I have to hold a few hands for VIPs, but I'm only supporting 100 Macs & PC's with a dozen or so servers at 5 locations. I could do this in my sleep. I'll also have a couple of guys reporting to me to be my lackeys. It's gravy. They did warn me that sometimes directors or actors come in and act like rude or shitty toward people, but I've dealt with some of the worst users around....especially when I was the lead admin at Boeing for a bunch of the most demanding engineers around. I'm pretty excited about this job. I told them at the interview that I was planning on going to Vietnam for a couple of weeks in February and I couldn't change my plans. They told me I could take it as a paid vacation if I wanted to. SWEET!!! I start on the 28th. I've got to write a resignation letter tonight that doesn't burn any bridges and leaves the door open if I need to come back.
