The 2 laptops for $2500 game

You have $2500 to buy 2 laptops from Best Buy. They're gift cards you won at work from some promotion. You have decided that you need two new laptops for you and your spouse, the old ones get hand me downed to the kids. Which two do you buy?

Do you get 2 exactly the same, so there's no CPU envy? or do you get a really good one and a so so one?

Is Acer a crap brand? how about Q2?

We have a Vaio and a Toshiba, and like both..... what sayeth the Geeks?

I'd go with the same myself. It's occasionally been handy for Mrs. Dallas and me to both have exactly the same thing. I'd buy Acer. I've never heard of Q2. I personally wouldn't have a Toshiba as a gift, but that reflects my personal experience with a very bad batch of them at work.

The only bummer about exactly the same thing is if it happens to have exactly the same flaw...like say when my ex and I both had the same camera, and they stopped working completely with the same error message in under a year, and sony didn't care....yeah.

I think you should get the nerdiest Dwellar named after a comic strip character you know to go shopping for you, and give him a percentage of the prize as a consulting fee.

Seriously, the feature list is fine. I personally wouldn't buy it though. In my book, an 18.4" screen is just too big for a laptop. 17.4 x 11.8 x 1.7" and 9 pounds? But that's me. YMMV.

$1299 times two is more than $2500. You cheated.

HP! HP!
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1211587729621

2 of these. Just looking at it briefly, they are better than the Q2's and others in the same price range/ and or the others in the higher bracket. A full gig more of memory or more! And we aren't even talking about hard drive memory..Looking at all the others, the Hp's are the average best for the price range. You may have some money left over! (there's always more stuff to buy while you are getting a new comp.)

So who's with me on the HP thing?

I think I live on the best buy website anyway.....Don't ask me to shop, I do this on that website for no reason...don't give me another reason....

I am not one of your geeks here, but I have to say...these are a good deal.

HM's last laptop was an Acer. He roundly condemned it as a piece of shit and the worst purchase he has ever made. Then again, his brother (web designer) and mine (IT Manager) believe it was just that particular model.

So saying, both recommended Dell to me when I was buying mine.
Doesn't help I know, but hey - you've got $2500 to blow on laptops, you've had enough luck in this lifetime!

Well, looky here! There is a Dell that is slightly better!
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1210378661918

The HP's screen is slightly larger. And is usually a better brand, higher graphics memory, but lower amount of space on the hard drive. Don't know if you care though.

I see no reason to get one really good one that is more than you will need. 2 great ones sounds like a better way to negotiate.

It's always a bad idea to buy computers from Best Buy. You should buy a really big screen tv and trade it for 2 laptops.

What is your primary use for these laptops? Gaming? Browsing? Word processing?

If it's for general use, I'd probably go with 2 of these. Add a couple of optical mice, and get laptop bags and you're done. Don't get the bags or mice, and your tax is almost covered.
