The Cookie Generator

This isn't one of those times where the cookie generator AI has kicked in to respond directly or indirectly to your most recent post, but the quote is relevant to my work.

Today, it said

That's not the test of first-rate intelligence, it's a test for schizophrenia.

I think that Fitzgerald's quote is a derivation of this one.

Quote:
The mark of an educated mind is that it can entertain an idea without embracing it.

- Aristotle

So I think Fitzgerald was referring to the ability to analyse two ideas at once without adopting either whereas your garden variety schizophrenic adopts both.

But I could be wrong on both counts. Or I could be right and wrong on both counts.

I left that open to interpretation as a test of first-rate intelligence; or, perhaps schizophrenia.

To my way of thinking, it's both a test for first-rate intelligence and a test for schizophrenia.
