YouTube Comments
After all these years, I am no closer to understanding how the Comments section of a YouTube page works.
Almost every time: the topmost comment is a reply to something that I see nowhere on the page. It is nowhere "below" the reply, so...it must be "above" it? When I hit "2" it does in fact add more comments to the top of the page, "above" the reply. But--not a whole "page" worth, just a few more (do the "pages" ever roll over?). Presumably, hitting "3" and "4" etc. would eventually lead you to the chronologically first reply...right? Question: why wouldn't the OLDEST or EARLIEST comment be on PAGE ONE??? I don't understand the concpet of how this is supposed to work, or what constitutes a "page" in this system. Try as I might, I cannot comprehend how these comments are ordered, or how to create a narrative of what is being said. Am I actually that stupid, or is this a broken system?
