Oct 9, 2010: Plumpkin

Plumpkin? That's a Lane Bryant plus sized pumpkin, and in this case an apparent world record pumpkin.

Quote:
Looking just like a Fiat 500 and weighing even more, this enormous pumpkin has already smashed two records this weekend makes its bid for the world title. For the last six weeks the champion pumpkin has been putting on a colossal two stone in weight each day - the same weight as two-year-old Freya Kirkpatrick who is proudly showing off the gigantic squash.

With a 17ft waist and weighing an estimated 1,652 lbs, this gigantic orange gourd has already smashed the British and European records. But after Saturday's official weigh-off, the Atlantic Giant may become the heaviest pumpkin of all time.
Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 49, have been growing giant pumpkins at Pine Tops Nursery in Lymington, Hampshire, for 30 years. Ian said: 'We want the world record and we're going to get it. This may be our lucky year as one of our six pumpkins looks like it's going to tip the scales at 1,652lbs.

'The chart we use to approximate the weight of a pumpkin is based on a combination of three measurements. But we expect a difference of five per cent each way when it is weighed for real. 'The current world record weight is 1,725lbs, so if this difference falls in our favour we'll have a new world record.
And then what, have it bronzed? I guess they'll save the seeds for growing but what about the rest?
Tomorrow I'll call my Mom and get a list of those starving children in Asia or Africa or somewhere, she talked about.
