Senator Barbara Boxer: "Don't Call Me Ma'am"

Brigadier General Michael Walsh condescendingly reprimanded for referring to Senator Barbara Boxer as Ma'am. I'd like to hear an opposing viewpoint that explains how this was a proper way to behave yourself in an official capacity at a public hearing in front of a room full of people (and cameras).

And the parody (a must-watch--this is hilarious): http://www.marklevinshow.com/goout.a...uthor/dzucker/

Did he say, "Yes Sir", at the end?

It would have been funnier if he'd said "Yes, sir," but he clearly is saying "Yes, Senator" as the video cuts off.

Don't see what's wrong with 'Ma'am'. It's just a contextual courtesy. When I stand to speak in Council, if it's the deputy mayor presiding I address her as 'Madam Deputy Mayor'.

Just one of those things. As long as there are no hierarchical implications of 'Ma'am' versus 'Sir', then it really doesn't matter. It certainly doesn't matter enough to do that to someone. That's a total abuse of her power and position. Trying to humiliate someone and take them to task in such a public way is appalling. That kind of response should be reserved for the most incorrigible and the most unwilling to change.

I listened to it three more times and it still sounds like "yes sir" to me. However, I will acknowledge you have considerable experience with recorded sound tracks.

Look at it this way: if he'd actually retorted, "Yes, sir," Barbara Boxer would have had an apoplectic fit right on the spot, and the video would have surely been edited longer so we could watch the foam and blood.

I too look forward to casting a vote against Babs Boxer. The Democratic Party must shrink and fade or the Republic shall be smothered. I'd rather have the Republic around than the Socialist Democrats. Too much penile-encephaly there, with no respect to gender.
