My roof is leaking!

Just heard running water in the family room, thought the fish tank must be doing something funny ....no, a 24"*8" bubble of water in my drywall just bust open. leaking down in two places from where the roof joins the chimney

It hasn't stopped raining for two days, the bubble is next to a mirror and frankly we're all so busy/tired at the moment who knows when it started forming. Or maybe just today while I've been sat here in the other room.

Because we can really afford another expense right now on top of the new school year expenses and the car repair and my stolen bike.......

fuck.

leaky rooves suck. or drip or what the hell ever.

Is this something you're going to undertake to fix or will your hire someone? Do you have interest in doing any kind of first aid for the acute problem?

It does. I'm really fucking depressed now. Thanks for your sympathy. I know it's not cancer or any of the other horrors than many people are having to battle but really? There's so much shit going on and I refuse to let it bring me down but sometimes that's quite a battle. maybe i should stop trying to earn a few bucks because ever since I started, it been one large unexpected bill after another. fuckers.

sorry just venting. And I need to leave to do the school run in a few minutes because we're off to an away swim meet at 4. So no time to deal with it. And no willing either. maybe I'll just build me an ark....

Dunno, V. I think it may be time to call the insurance company and hire someone. It's a pretty big area of damage. I'm certainly not going up on the roof until Saturday when beest is home to hold the ladder, that's for sure

Yeah, call the insurance company. How old is your house? I hope it stops raining soon in your part of the world. I'm going outside right now to fan some warm, dry air in your direction. *Goes out and fans the air in a northerly easterly direction with local newspaper*

There! Is it better yet?

Walking around the neighborhood over the weekend, I saw half a dozen houses with people up on their roofs making repairs. We had a shit load of rain last week, and some roofs that had been perfectly water tight were unable to hold back the constant pounding rain. It was a real stress test. Also, the earthquake loosened up the mortar joints in some chimneys just enough that they started to leak after the prolonged rain. I saw two chimney repairs going on.

Edit: Oh, and I learned from talking to one home owner that you don't want a hurricane or tropical storm warning called for your county, otherwise insurance probably won't pay. Arlington had flash flood warnings last week, but not tropical storm warnings, so insurance will probably pay for storm damage like a leaking roof. If you want coverage during those other situations you have to get extra hurricane coverage.

Blows. Insurance for sure. You might have trouble finding an available roofer right now so start looking now.
