Insomnia is eating out my brain
So, my ever incompetent doc's have put me on a new med that interferes with my sleep right when I started the shifts from hell routine at work - three 14-hour days in a row, one day off, one 7-hour day, followed by three more back to back 14-teeners. Of course, Norman doesn't pay OT at the Bates or anything more than the minimum wage.
I am not sleeping - didn't sleep a wink last night. Yesterday, I amused guests with my sleep deprived tricks. Like one guy handed me two twenties to pay for a $35.00 charge. I handed him a nickle and informed him, "And 5's your change." We both looked at the nickle for a while until I realized my mistake. And never ever use an outfit called booking.com to make hotel/motel reservations. It's really a clever device to keep guests roaming your town all night with nowhere to stay (don't worry, the police here keep them moving along on their drive to nowhere). b.com has delusions of grandeur and assumes all its member motels are like the Hilton or something with real staff that are there 24/7. Norman has tried to get it through their heads that the Bates closes at 10:00 pm. No luck. Now, I don't know what goes through people's minds, but I had a reservation that was placed at 4am Thursday to check in at 11:00pm the day before - Wednesday. The people who did this were Chinese - maybe they thought the International Date Line would save them? It didn't. Nor did I - the first night. I shredded all the paperwork, so the boss couldn't see it. I was too tired to try to explain the mechanisms of Booking.com to him. It's HIS new toy, anyway. When the bedraggled Chinese showed up next morning, I told them (they were very nice, considering), that not only did they owe nothing for their night of attempted time travel, I would give them a free night in the Mountain Daylight Zone, so they could recover from their travail. Then, last night when I did my accounts, I came up short $1,000. I've come up as short as $100 in the past, but $1,000 is my new, all time record. The thought of grabbing the entire till and making a run across the border to The Navajo Nation briefly crossed my sleep deprived mind. Some years back, several desperados robbed one of the near-by casinos of a vast sum of money, and high tailed it for the land of many sheep, little water, and infinite box canyons to get lost in. A couple got caught eventually and one or two died out there. Probably not one of my better impulses. So I counted up the entire damn cash drawer all over again. And discovered a receipt for a Visa charge to the tune of a thousand $$$ stuck under the one dollar bills.???????? And I did these things operating on 5 hours sleep from the night before. I can't wait to see what tricks I will manage to carry off today with zero sleep. Hopefully, I can get rid of the wreckage before Norman gets back from his California jaunt. Bless his little $220,000/year ass. Bet he doesn't sign up for the Obama job incentive either. ![]() |
