I started out with a sense of outrage on reading this, and then I realized that my tinfoil hat was firmly in place.

Blix's paychecks are signed by Kofi, right ... so is there some other special agenda served through his actions ... are they really not finding anything or are they reporting not finding anything to keep the US from lighting the candle?

The second situation, perhaps. But Kofi would not be the S-G of the UN without the solid backing of the US. That's why Boutros-Ghali didn't get a second term.
