More war images

The war... sponsored by Skittles!

I can't get enough shots of happy Iraqis.

You can say it's propagadna, it's because I want to prove a point.

No, I swear, it's because I like seeing happiness as a result of all this.

Isn't giving flowers to soldiers an old hippie thing?

Not unusual reaction to something that's new or hasn't been seen for a very log time. Smiles a contagious.

These images remind me of the pictures of the French citizens greeting the Panzers rolling through Paris ...

... and the Polish citizens greeting their German invaders

... and the South Vietnamese citizens greeting the Chinese (sorry, I mean Viet Cong) invaders

... and the Afgans greeting the Soviets

Wait a second ...

Come to think of it, what an odd way to greet the "invading agressors". Silly Iraqis. Don't they know we've come for their oil?

The difference this time is that we're right, perhaps for the wrong reasons. We did free them from a gen-u-ine A number one asshole and that's the most important thing. Their future is uncertain, no doubt.

Remember people, cynicism is a tool, not a way of life.

The point is that the Afghans DIDN'T meet the invading Soviets with hugs and smiles, nor the French the Panzers etc. The French, OTOH did greet the invading _Americans_ with hugs and smiles, or so I've heard from someone who was there.

Yes, but clearly, we Amercians have worn out our welcomes in France. Perhaps next time someone goose-steps through their country (maybe someone who we think we should leave alone lest we trample their soverignty), they'll invite us back.

My point was the Vietnamese were at least equally happy (or unhappy) to see both americans or Viet Cong and in general were happier to see Viet Cong. Secondly the Chinese support of the Viet Cong was nothing like that post suggests, for crying out loud they hate each other. To quote Ho CHi Minh "better to sniff French shit for 5 years than eat Chinese shit for the rest of our lives", Russia offered more support to the Viet Cong that China did.

Memory is selective. We all tend to forget that the French helped us rid ourselves of the British. But that's an insignificant point in history I suppose...

It is a perfectly legitimate point. They helped us, then we helped them, then we helped them again, then they bashed us and generally said we sucked.

To which the US COngress responded by renaming 'French Fries' . Huzzah - the French accuse the US of being backward ignorant yahoos, the US reponds by throwing a hissyfit - that sure proved them wrong.

That my friend, is why we have the 'Hot Dog' instead of Frankfurters...

[edit for the sake of not making two posts]
Of course they're going to bash us. We continually call them cowards and state how "If it wasn't for us...". Who wants to constantly be reminded how "We helped you! You owe us big time." That's no fun. No one likes that.

That soldier in the last photo is kind of cute;
not to mention sexy because of the gun in her hand.

Yes and no. First we landed in North Africa before the D-Day invasion of europe. The French in Morocco shelled our ships trying to land there to start the North African campaign.

Ballocks, Jaguar, but only small ones.

Here in the new millenium, old verities are well and truly on their collective ear: "The top golfer is black; the top rapper is white; France accuses us of being arrogant; and Germany doesn't want to go to war."

"Damn -- civilization gets stranger every year." -- Wm. Messner-Loebs, through the mouth of his character Wolverine McAlastaire
