What kind of shoes do you wear around the house?

I wear moccasins in the winter, barefoot in the summer. These moccasins are like 10 years old or something. Plain leather bottoms.... Real moccasins. Not those retarded driving ones with the rubber knobbies. I got them because my dad always wore them. It's a tradition.

There's more than four eyes on display then! No shoes around the flat, although there should be, given the new carpeting I've installed (general trash and birdseed). When I go into therapy I'll wear slippers for breakfast, and flip-flops during the day. I prefer to wear as little on my feet as possible, as they bleed if they even see a shoe, but I can't really go barefoot in public areas. In fact I have a feeling I'd be asked not to. There's usually more chance of harm and injury when people are barefoot. They've never seen my shoes full of blood. Does mean I'll paint my toenails again though. I rarely wear make-up these days, but I like to look down and see painted toenails. It's a flash of colour on a dull day.

Socks. Your moccasin idea has merit though. Maybe a Fred Rogers ritual.

No shoes inside, ever. Socks only if my feet are about to experience frostbite. Which causes some social awkwardness because while my feet are in no way offensive, people come in my house, see the shoe rack, and feel obligated to take their shoes off. And I fall all over myself explaining that we are not a "shoes-free" home, we have tile for Christ's sake, but they never listen.

In the wintertime, slippers. If I am wearing just socks, I always wind up stepping in a little splashed water puddle in the kitchen and getting my socks wet. I hate that. In the summer, bare feet. Or year round, I might just keep my shoes on because I'll be heading out soon. Whatever. |

Yes, if you don't wear socks, how are you going to mop the kitchen floor? It doesn't clean itself!

Also, I go down in my basement workshop pretty often, and have to put on sneakers to do that. I'll sometimes go in there in my socks or barefoot and wind up stepping on something sharp. Slippers are no good in the workshop because the tops of them are slightly fuzzy fleece, and would collect too much sawdust.

I have several pairs of really thick over the ankle socks I wear when waddling around the house. I used to have the fake moccasins, the kind with a flannel lining, and docksider-type soles. But, they wear out so quickly, they're not worth what they cost.

Always barefoot inside the house. Barefoot outside around the house unless it is pretty darn cold.
