11/8/2004: Ostrich jockey
![]() This is an ostrich race in Kenya. The official caption says the ostrich race was part of a celebration of 100 years of horse racing in that African country. I'm not sure how I feel about this. One part of me wonders whether the birds mind, and if so, how much I'd rather they didn't do it. Another part of me thinks it must be hilarious. And yet another part wonders whether I still have that copy of "Joust" installed. |

I just bought a new copy of Joust for PS2. I have one for nearly every platform I own. Oh wait. Every platform ... PC, PS1, PS2, N64, Gameboy. Yeah. I didn't just like this game ... This also includes a really bad clone for PC that came out a while before the first Williams Brothers CD-ROM.
You have inspired me. I must play ... I have two kenyan coworkers. I'll have to ask about the ostrich thing. Although, I don't really see the tie in to the anniversary of horseracing, unless it was something along the lines of "Unless the white man showed us that we could ride the horses 100 years ago we would still be pissing off ostriches in this way."

I'd imagine the ostrich minds as much as a horse does. I understand they're sometimes bred for riding, just like some are bred for being eaten.
And that is hilarious any way you look at it! ![]()

"Ostrich Jockey" definitely sounds to me like a euphemism for something dirty (though I can't really think of what.)

Every time I look at an ostrich, I think just how extremely stupid I was to have never noticed that birds came directly from dinosaurs...

Going very fast.
Bear in mind my vivid imagination. Is the animal's inner left leg actually his inner left leg or is John Holmes riding shotgun? Look closely at the image. Please forgive me......... Is it retouched, or am I an artist?

All right. I'll admit it. I googled "Ostrich Penis."
It's not as much fun as googling "Whale Penis." But I did learn a lot about ostriches.

All I need to know is that ostriches (and their cousins the emus) are delicious and I can get their meat from a farm in Bucks County. I made friends with the farmer at a farm show some years back.
It's classed as poultry but the meat is red and has the texture of chicken but with the flavor of the most tender filet mignon. Yum! I'm going to see if I have any left in the freezer... ![]() Brian

Whole Foods has it. It's packaged in boxes in the unusual meats section. I've had it a few times. It's pretty good, but it leaves a bit of an odd taste in the back of my throat.

Ah...Here we go... Fossil Farms Here you will also find other types of unusual meats like venison, rattlesnake, elk, yak (!) and alligator. Should we move this discussion to the Food and Drink forum? They have recipes too! ![]() Brian
