Things due to happen - we don't like to remember

It is an event about every 20 years. A president dies in office or an attempt almost succeeds.
Andrew Jackson almost in 1835.
Lincoln in 1965.
Garfield in 1881.
McKinley in 1901.
Wilson had a stroke in 1919, was basically incapacitated, and remained as figurehead president until 1921.
FDR in 1945.
JFK in 1963
Reagan (almost) in 1981.
Who is next?

There have been other attempts such as Squeaky Fromme on Gerald Ford.

A few planes or helicopter tried to get the White House during Reagan and Clinton. Some Puerto Rican liberators tried to get Truman at Blair House while the White House was under reconstruction.

But this time line is of concern especially when America is so actively unpopular throughout the world. Cheney as president? There is this old joke about being a heartbeat away. But something like 20+% of Cheney's heart function remains. Heartless? Well at least we don't have to worry about Dan Quayle.

I wrote a "protest" song back during the Bush Sr. presidency that addressed this sort of concern, in a roundabout way:

Read My Lips -

I was watching TV just the other day, it was the news on CNN
The deadline's passed, say "Bombs Away!"
Looks like we're at it again.
We're gonna blow Baghdad into powder
Gonna kick Iraqi ass.
How come all this crap is legal, but its a crime to smoke some grass?

(Chorus)
Read my lips! I promised no new taxes.
Read my lips! But you won't see what the facts is.
President Bush says "It's okay." He's speakin' in a parking lot
Can't throw tomatoes 'cause they cost too much
Better get 'em home before they rot.
Read my lips! Read my lips!
Sorry about the tax thing, but somebody's got to pay for this.

I picked up the old newspaper
Saw people protestin' for peace
Out in San Francisco, man...
They acted like a pack of beasts
Breakin' windows and burning cop cars
I can't believe that its true
I guess out in 'Frisco the slogan is, "Give me peace...or I'll kill you."

Well broccoli sucks, but I've got big bucks
And I'm President - get my drift?

Well there's lots wrong with our country
The world has gone amiss
And if you believe that Jesus is comin'
You've got to believe that he's pissed.
Our leaders have to be righteous
Work for peace, not steal and lie
And if'n they don't, well get out there and vote them
To the sweet bye and bye.

Read my lips! I promised no new taxes.
Read my lips! But you won't see what the facts is.
President Bush says "It's okay." He's speakin' in a parking lot
Can't throw tomatoes 'cause they cost too much
And besides, you might get shot!
Read my lips! Read my lips!
Better hope I don't die, 'cause Dan Quayle's standin' by
To inherit all of this.

Reagan busted the elected in 00, dies in office myth. Came close to keeping it, but busted it. I was a little disappointed.

I also believe in the Lincoln/Kennedy thing.
