I love you folks in the Pacific Northwest!
I recently had to buy a CD put out by an extremely popular local band online, because all the area record stores here are sold out of it. This group, "Martini Shot" is phenomenal, BTW. Wouldn't surprise me if they start to make it big on the national scene, as well as the local one. Anyhow, they use an independent distributer out of Portland called "CD Baby."
I just had to share the order confirmation I got from CD Baby with you all: Qty Description Price Total === =========== ===== ===== 1 THE MARTINI SHOT: dry & dirty $10.00 $10.00 Sub Total $10.00 Shipping $2.25 Grand Total $12.25 Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow. A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy. We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved 'Bon Voyage!' to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Tuesday, January 3rd. I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as 'Customer of the Year'. We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!! Thank you once again, Derek Sivers, president, CD Baby |

Now having spent a good deal of time in the indie CD selling industry, I can tell you without a doubt that CD Baby's order confirmation message is one of Mr. Sivers finest innovations. This is the third time I have seen it shared "virally" which makes it nothing short of a marketing phenomenon.
It would be better if he changed it every once in a while though. After your fifth order with them it does get a little old. |

Heck, I was disappointed to see that it didn't change from my first to my second order. I was really hoping there were 50 or so paragraph pieces that it would Mad-Lib from.

I think this line's mostly filler.

The response from the Klein Bottle guys is fun, too, but what's really funny is the paperwork that it comes with. All sorts of wacky mathematical jokes and references.

Bought some calendars from Despair.
Both the confirmation email and the paperwork in the shipment said something to the effect; if you have a problem we'll make a half-assed attempt to make you happy.....but, don't expect much because we already have your money. ![]()
