I'm always proud of my kids, but some days that's qualified with a comparison of where they "could" be. Today, however, it's just straight up proud of both of them.

1.) Minifobette's Spanish teacher came all the way out to the car to tell me that she just unexpectedly spewed whole sentences in class today, basically as well as she speaks English, and

2.) Minifob is currently watching this video, of his own volition, with great fascination:

They are such smart monkeys.

I let my wife figure out what to buy and I just take the credit!

I sent my son a new camera last month as they didn't own one. It's the same Canon mirror-less I have. Glad I did, he sent me a few this morning. I took the liberty of a little post processing in LR.

Great news Clod.
Chris, I was gonna say "pics or it never happened" then a turn of the page and there they were. Congrats on the new addition.

At the bottom of an email from Thor's band teacher with six points about general business..... as I was about to go back to my inbox, something about point 7 caught my attention

7. Finally, congratulations to Thor Beestmonster for becoming the first member of the SSB Club! Playing the Star Spangled Banner note- and rhythm-perfect gets students extra credit points and the satisfaction of being a more accomplished musician -- able to play our national anthem, which is indeed a very difficult piece to play or sing.

he plays baritone in case enquiring minds wanted to know ;)

Nice shout out!

Gravdigr 10-08-2014 02:36 PM

Go Thor!

Not really a brag, but this is a good thread for it anyway.

My boy had a really fact-intensive social studies test to study for. It was actually a makeup exam for a test he and the rest of the class bombed two weeks ago. He was studying for the makeup test about an hour every night for a week and a half and it was brutal. So many facts about the constitution and state and federal government structure and so on. So on Sunday we went over the 15 page study guide one last time before the test on Monday.

Sitting on the living room couch and quizzing him on this stuff, he would have a really hard time staying focused. He'd roll off onto the floor and start taking a sudden interest in the foot stool legs or something. Anything to take his mind off what we were studying. So on Sunday, I grabbed the study pack, and we went walking to the local woods, and just walked around the paths in the woods for a hour and a half asking him questions, and he was picking up stick and throwing rocks and smashing sticks against tree trunks all while answering the questions. He stayed pretty focused on the topic and burned off a lot of energy, and I think that by going over these facts again in a different setting, they probably stuck in his brain a little better.

So he took the test yesterday, and is confident that he got virtually all the answers right. We'll see when the test comes back, but I got the impression as we were going over the material that it was actually sticking.
