The guys at the paint shop loved it. They didn't think it would look good with the decal under the matte clear, but they changed their minds when they saw it done.

glatt 07-13-2016 10:57 AM

It came out really nice

fargon 07-13-2016 10:58 AM

Not a big fan of skulls, but it looks good.

lumberjim 07-14-2016 01:55 AM

Up late tonight doing the tedious bits. Reassembly of saddlebag hinges, etc.

Rewarded myself by setting the tank and bag on the frame for a peek into the future.

Griff 07-14-2016 06:57 AM

Straight up badass.

lumberjim 07-14-2016 10:09 AM

Thanks. I've had an erection for more than 4 hours over it.

fargon 07-14-2016 10:45 AM

You need to find some place to stick it.

lumberjim 07-17-2016 05:35 AM

I replaced the fuel filter the other night.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...10c6730467.jpg
Taped the tank up to protect it. That big oval is called a canopy. The fuel pump and filter hang from it. There is a intake basket, a float for the gas guage, a canister style filter and a pump.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...258f0872e1.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...38d7f0ec7d.jpg
The filter is the square cylinder with the hose coming in from the right, on the left in pic 2, the pump has the wires attached in pic 3.

lumberjim 07-17-2016 05:38 AM

The hoses all got replaced too. Getting the thing out of the tank was tricky, but youtube has a good video showing how to do it.

Part 2 shows the filter replacement process. I struggled at least as much as he did getting the hose ends over the nozzles, but it's done.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f4d4ff53db.jpg
I have a small garlic jar full of this paint. I'm painting the left eye in each skull blue.

lumberjim 07-17-2016 05:48 AM

Up early today to work on it. Hoping to ride it by sunset.

My Harley To Do list v3 is going down, brother!

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...985289883d.jpg

Today I'm tackling the USB wiring, the LED kit, tank reinstall, exhaust slip ons reinstall, tour pack reinstall, fairing cover reinstall.... I feel like I'm forgetting something... I'll go over all the bolts as I go.

Oh, yeah, the saddlebag fender bracket...

lumberjim 07-17-2016 10:31 PM

No ride on it today I'm afraid...

Still have to hook up the crossover hose and put gas in it...

Got all the parts back on though...

Clodfobble 07-18-2016 04:03 PM

Cool, but understated. I like it.

lumberjim 07-18-2016 05:54 PM

Thanks! I can't wait to see it all together in the daylight!

lumberjim 07-18-2016 11:56 PM

Tonight I got home before 10, so I went out to the garage to take stock of what was left to do.

I had to connect the cross over fuel line.. That's a hose that connects the two 'lobes' of the gas tank under the forward curve of the tank. That has to be done after the tank is mounted as the hose goes around the front frame pillar.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4dd9662403.jpg

I had bought a chrome hose cover, so I put that on too.

I also needed to recalibrate my fuelpak to the throttle, as I had changed the cables.

Once I was done with that.... I couldn't think of what came next. Holy shit.

Put gas in it!

No leaks..... All looks good.....

I took the saddle bags off... Dawdled a bit more, checking over this and that, looking for that one thing I missed.....
Couldn't find anything wrong...

No choice now but to try it. Why am I apprehensive....? What did I forget?

lumberjim 07-19-2016 12:01 AM

I didn't forget anything. It fired on the first crank. Bam! POW! Booooyah! Potato potato potato.

Just like I had ridden it yesterday. After 8 weeks in pieces. Took it out for some fresh gas and to stretch it's legs.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fec9ca8d9a.jpg

It turns another altogether different shade of blue under Uv lights.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4993589387.jpg

Here's that hose cover

You could rob the blacklight store, and no one would ever be able to identify the vehicle.

Have you seen it in direct sunlight yet?

It looks fantastic. Two months! It's like it's a brand new different bike.

Whoa, now there are carbon deposits in the exhaust... better order new back pipes, two more weeks

:D

lumberjim 07-19-2016 08:51 AM

I have not actually seen it in direct light all assembled. I had the tent over it all day Sunday while I put it together. I work all damn day again today, so I'll have to get it out tomorrow. I'll stay up tonight and fix the saddlebag issue. Tomorrow, I'll address the turn signals not working... and the no power to the LED light switch.

lumberjim 07-19-2016 12:49 PM

Couldn't wait. Ran home at lunch

Undertoad 07-19-2016 12:58 PM

Great day for it!

lumberjim 07-19-2016 03:46 PM

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice too. I'll try to get out for a bit after I fix the exhaust but before I go get the kids for .....

Jane's Addiction! Ritual De Lo Habitual show at the Filmore East!

Then Friday, I get to sit in a small room with jinx while she looks anywhere but at me. Spencer's support ends in August, so we have to meet for the modification hearing. That should be deliciously uncomfortable for her. I think I won't wash for a couple days before, and try to fart a lot. maybe show up drunk.

That bike looks amazing! Does she have a name yet?

zippyt 07-20-2016 07:26 AM

I say Charleen

lumberjim 07-20-2016 08:54 AM

Not a namer. It's The Harley. Or the FL. Other one's The Yamaha

footfootfoot 07-20-2016 12:04 PM

What is the significance of a blue left eye? Heterochromia?

Gravdigr 07-20-2016 12:18 PM

It means he gargles balls.

Fuckin' two-bike-havin' ball gargler...[/jealous]

:p:

Gravdigr 07-20-2016 12:21 PM

I have to admit, though, the bike looks better than I thought it would.

Matches my ring

@Digr. Thanks man. I'm really pleased with it too. I worked my balls off on it, once I was done gargling them.

It's kind of plain, but I like that. Considering adding skulls to the back of the bags. Painting them flat white with plasti-dip first though.

glatt 07-21-2016 07:16 AM

It would be cool if you somehow put a chip in the ring and a reader on the bike so you could unlock/start it with the ring.

footfootfoot 07-21-2016 08:02 AM

Cool ring, Jim. And very nice job on the bike.

Glatt's an idea man. I like that.

With the intelligent key technology and time, this may come to pass. Programmable jewelry keys. You'll be rich

classicman 07-23-2016 09:44 AM

Jim, that thing is awesome. I'm not a motorcycle person, but she is a beaut!
Well done sir, well done indeed.

lumberjim 07-23-2016 04:32 PM

Thanks! Still have a lot to do...

lumberjim 07-24-2016 02:50 PM

Got the turn signals fixed and the exhaust aligned so that the bags fit. Fixed the LED system.

Now, the goddamned fuel pump is singing

Gravdigr 07-24-2016 02:54 PM

Is that cowbell loose, or does the engine really move that much?

That fuel pump don't sound quite correct, do it?

lumberjim 07-24-2016 06:56 PM

Rubber mounted motor. Needs a new motor mount. One of the few things left on the list. Probably do that and a new fuel pump on weds.

It looks fucking killer though.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f1255f0f75.jpg

The fuel pump problem is not a fuel pump problem.

When I was doing the cam chain tensioners back in may, I took a bit of a leap of faith. I trailered the bike up to a guy's house to let him fix it. Met him on the hd forum I follow. Seemed to know his shit. Seemed like people on that forum deferred to him when there was a debate about some technical issue.

So I decided to trust him. And I liked him right away. Talked about this and that for an hour when I dropped it off, then he and Amanda and I talked for even longer when we picked it up.

I've stayed in touch with him. He retired from his County job and got a job at his local Harley dealer as a service writer. Perfect fit for him. He's not as active on the forum since he started there. I guess he scratches his Harley itch all day long at work now.

But when I get stuck, and no one in that forum can help, I've texted and called him.

I've been scratching my head over this fuel pump whine since Sunday. Talked to him this evening on the phone.

His recommendation was to pull the fuel pump assembly half way out, and turn it on so I could see where fuel was escaping the system. Very clear and detailed instructions on how to go about it. He guessed that I've either got no o ring or 2 between the filter I put in and the regulator housing.

Damn if fuel didn't spray out between the filter and regulator when I did as he said.

Its not what you know. It's who you know.

Griff 07-27-2016 06:48 AM

That dude needs the SMRT plate.

lumberjim 07-27-2016 10:51 PM

I got up early this morning and got to work on this. Pulled the fuel pump out of the tank, removed the filter and regulator. It all looked fine. Hmmm. One O ring in there like it should be. But the filter didn't seem tight in the regulator. So I put it back in, tested it. All good.

Went out for a ride and after 5 miles or so, it started sputtering again. Mother. Fucker.

Limped home, repeated the test. Same spray from the same place, just no singing. This time, I pulled the regulator apart and put it back together. Then I wrapped some rescue tape around it. Called the local HD dealer, made sure that they had the Harley filter in stock, and rode down and got it.

Came home and, for the third time, removed the pump assembly from the tank. Got that drill down cold by now. 20 minutes. Swapped the filter and moved on to the motor mount.

Here's before the new mount. Note the mirrors shaking like Michael J Fox. Also the skull horn cover on the left side of the bike.

And then I replaced this mount

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...765ea3fa8b.jpg

With this one

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3b97463c97.jpg

Now it's like this

That's the last non normal maintenance item on my to do list. I'm calling this bike finished.

glatt 07-28-2016 08:20 AM

Sweet!

fargon 07-28-2016 08:33 AM

YAY!!!

Gravdigr 07-28-2016 01:10 PM

Stick a fork in it folks, it's done!

Griff 07-29-2016 06:28 AM

Its already got a fork...

Gravdigr 07-29-2016 03:01 PM

Touché.:)

lumberjim 07-29-2016 10:51 PM

I had to loosen that mount, run the bike longer with it loose, and tighten it back down. There was a nasty vibration between 1100 and 1800 rpm.

Much better now

infinite monkey 07-30-2016 01:23 AM

I'm feeling much better now.

Sick sense. ;)

A break-in period for a motor mount...That's new.

lumberjim 07-30-2016 05:37 PM

600-800 miles they say.

I'll do half of that tomorrow. Rain or shine. Gonna go see my tech for a once over before the trip. Service brakes, new plugs, drink beers, talk shit.

lumberjim 07-30-2016 10:06 PM

So, there's this stray cat in my neighborhood. I've seen it around since I've lived here. I called it 'Bruiser' in my head, because it's a thick cat. I've seen it kill shit. It left me a wounded bird one night.

The other day, as my neighbor Michele and I were talking on my porch, it came right up and started acting like any house cat. Rubbing against her legs, scratching itself, flopping down and wanting scratchies etc...

Michele has cats, so she got into it. Looking at it for fleas, petting the purrs out of it. I always assumed it was male, but there are teats low down on the belly. Ok. She.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b82ccd2f85.jpg

Then we realize that Bruiser has been de-clawed. I hate that shit.

Now I feel sorry for her. Abandoned, homeless and feminine. Bruiser is now Naomi.

I gave her half of my burger tonight, and she was very thankful. Got up on the table and forced me to pet her. Pushed my phone down and sent a couple texts to Amanda.

After 15 minutes of lovins...

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...da9f148d00.jpg

I went inside and got my Pottery set. I don't know if she inhaled, but I gave her 4 really good clouds of a cannibonimbous nature to enjoy.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f667f431df.jpg

She's sleeping the happy sleep. Must be rough living out doors in the burbs. She wants to come inside, but I'm not trying to get fleas or whatever. I'm gonna be her fair weather friend for now.

classicman 07-31-2016 08:02 AM

That clip in her left ear may indicate that she is a feral who was fixed. I can't really see it clear enough to tell though. Many/most/some of the shelters do that so they can tell which have been neutered.
She looks sweet - like my old Harmony.

Gravdigr 07-31-2016 01:03 PM

De-clawed = damn near defensless.

Get rid of the fleas. Dip her, buy a flea collar, Advantix on the neck, something.

Then let her come in.

Griff 07-31-2016 02:23 PM

You're putting yourself in line for some good mojo.

Got the brake service done today, changed the plugs, got rained on, took pics with a cool industrial back drop... Twas a good day.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9799c24240.jpg

Even after being stuck in traffic to start it.

Griff 07-31-2016 07:14 PM

That is all that.
