alright. It is a mineral deposit from millions of years of dissolved limestone dripping onto the floor of a cave. Hence "percolate for a while"

offs I really was going to post (after the clues) "underground river bed" which woulda been pretty close... and then I thought stalactites and stalagmites, but they're smooth.... but I thought f3 liveth not underground.....
