Nope.

The curve looks like it matches the curve of an eyeglasses lens. The notch is all black and marked, like it fits into something like a vise.

So I'm going to guess that it's some sort of jig for holding or grinding eyeglass lenses.

I don't know, but seriously, it looks familiar. The material.

Hints?

A tensioning block of some sort. For a chain perhaps?

Gravdigr 08-03-2011 05:11 PM

Teflon-type plastic? A brush-holder from an electric motor?

Spexxvet 08-03-2011 05:40 PM

I don't think it's made of teflon

Gravdigr 08-03-2011 06:13 PM

Not like on a frying pan, mind you. :)

Spexxvet 08-03-2011 06:14 PM

It's called "fiber".

beauregaardhooligan 08-04-2011 07:07 AM

I'm guessing it's made of nylon, some kind of bushing.

It protects the finish of a metal frame when using these pliers to bend it.

glatt 08-04-2011 07:33 AM

nice!

That's where I remember seeing that material. I worked in manufacturing/QA for years and I remember tools having that material. Weird that I could almost feel it again, when I saw the "texture." Those types were used for bending wire so it didn't expose base copper.

Gravdigr 08-04-2011 03:43 PM

That was fun.
