Seems like if you just hardened your systems with electronic shielding and good grounding, you would be able to defeat this threat. I thought we already did this to protect us from the EMP made by a nuke going off at high altitude.

Civilian stuff would be toast, but the military stuff should be good, shouldn't it?

xoxoxoBruce 12-07-2012 03:36 PM

Hard to say, they seem pretty confident.
It would probably take out terrorists, and the Tea Party using ordinary computers and cell phones to overthrow the government, though.

Tight fit.

I like how the 'little' A-10's engines are almost as big as the C-5's! I know the A-10 is well in the foreground, but, still.

With everyone and their brother now owning at least one AR-type rifle, I thought it would be nice to learn how to clean them properly.

You are welcome.

As to why I was looking for info on AR-cleaning, no comment.

This is the takedown version.

Attachment 42866

Quote:

Although the Model 1897 was popular with American troops in World War I, the Germans soon began to protest its use in combat. "On 19 September 1918, the German government issued a diplomatic protest against the American use of shotguns, alleging that the shotgun was prohibited by the law of war." A part of the German protest read; "It is especially forbidden to employ arms, projections, or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering". "This is the only known occasion in which the legality of actual combat use of the shotgun has been raised."

Gravdigr 02-14-2013 01:18 PM

OOoooooohhh, post #666, Devil Gun!!!

BigV 02-20-2013 01:19 PM

Interesting. I was surprised to see that the barrel of the rifle did not get any cleaning attention. Surely it too accumulates residue/schmutz/whatever that needs to be cleaned periodically, no?

xoxoxoBruce 02-20-2013 01:26 PM

Yes, but that can be done without breaking it down.

From one of them there 'heritage flights' what happens at the end of the airshow.

Top down: P-38 Lightning, A-10 Thunderbolt II (more commonly known as the A-10 'Warthog'), F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the F-22 Raptor.

Attachment 43566

glatt 04-05-2013 02:27 PM

Amazing they can all fly stably at the same speed. I'd think the jets would start to stall at the P-38's speed.

Gravdigr 04-05-2013 02:49 PM

I thought the P-38 could do about 500 mph, but, Wiki says it tops out at about 443 mph in war trim. Wiki doesn't list stall speed for the Raptor, but, what with vectoring nozzles and such, I would guess it's stall speed to be very low. It can probably fly slower than the Lightning.

ETA: Wiki lists the P-38's stall speed as 105 mph, so...maybe not.

Gravdigr 04-05-2013 02:58 PM

The Falcon would probably stall somewhere around 140 mph (depending on angle of attack), as takeoff speed is 138-148 mph, minimum.

ETA: Wiki states the stall speed for the Warthog as 138 mph.

glatt 04-05-2013 03:29 PM

Well, they took the picture, so it's clearly possible. I knew the warthog could fly slow, since that's its mission. But the other two jets look FAST.

Pete Zicato 04-05-2013 05:05 PM

Or maybe they took the picture just as they were lined up?

Airport delays are a pain in the ass, and seemingly inevitable. But you can amuse yourself by building your own weapons from stuff you can buy in the airport, after your cavity search.

ATTENTION TERRORISTS.... don't read this.

Lamplighter 12-04-2013 01:11 PM

Not a weapon... yet... but coming soon to a drone near you.

Hardware Hacker Demos Zombie Drone Hijacker

They call it the R.I.P. [Radically Invasive Projectile] round and with good reason. G2 Research has released a new ammo that is taking the market by storm and has gun owners all over the country trying to find where to pick some up.

As of now, the company is only releasing specifications for their 9mm round and they go a lil’ something like this:

* 16″ Penetration
* Up to 6″ diameter spread
* 96 gr projectile
* 2″ grouping at 25 yards (75 feet)
* 1265 FPS / 490 Muzzle Energy
* 9 Separate Wound Channels
* Precision Machined
* Solid Copper / Lead Free
* Defeats all known barriers such as sheet metal, sheet rock, windshields, plywood, heavy winter clothing

I don't know anything about this round, or how well it performs, but, it looks fucking awesome!

sexobon 01-29-2014 05:08 PM

Maybe they'll come out with a version in which the little stakes are made of wood instead of copper so you can shoot vampires with them.

Gravdigr 01-30-2014 03:59 PM

I don't know about that, but, there is/will be a 12 gauge slug version.:eek:

zippyt 01-30-2014 10:16 PM

Easy enough , all you need is some finish nails Tie them in a bundle ( with dental floss) Roughly the size of a 12 ga shell , get a 12 HI Brass ( duck or turkey load )
shell , empty out the shot , leave the wad , put the nails in side , then fill with melted wax , let cool , then FUCK a Zombie UP !!!

xoxoxoBruce 01-30-2014 10:19 PM

Flechettes.

zippyt 01-30-2014 11:57 PM

redneck Flechettes.

Gravdigr 01-31-2014 04:05 PM

I would almost bet my balls that the words 'redneck' & 'flechette' appeared side-by-side for the first time right there in Zip's post.

ETA: "redneck Flechettes" returns exactly one Google result. It's almost a Googlewhack. I achieved a Googlewhack years ago with the search term 'marmalade fetish', without quotes.

xoxoxoBruce 03-17-2014 02:43 AM

Defense Industry Daily says the first pic is, "Cheetahs and Mirage 50s for Ecuador". The Cheetahs are built by Atlas in South Africa, the Mirage is of course French. I think that picture looks more like Saab Gripens, than Mirages, but they should know. :cool:

They do. They got it correct here (about two page-scrolls down, on the left)

xoxoxoBruce 03-17-2014 11:46 PM

I think you're right neither the Mirage 5 or Mirage 50 has canards

Defense Industry Daily.:lol:

I found your picture in Google images and clicked visit page which took me to DID here. Headline story titled "Cheetahs and Mirage 50s for Ecuador". I fell for it. :smack:

If you scroll down to the thumbnail, which is the same one in your link, it's labeled Jas-39s and Cheetahs. So is the embiggened picture.

That'll learn me not to try thinking at 4 in the morning. :blush:
