The Geek Test

58.93746% = Extreme Geek

Razorfish 11-04-2003 01:39 PM

I don't believe this has been listed yet:

Touchgraph

I thought this was a pretty neay Java app. NOTE: you need the JRE Java manager for it to work (its a free download).

SteveDallas 11-04-2003 02:12 PM

Wow, I only got 45.16765%, Super Geek. I'm taken aback; I must be getting less geekly in my old age. Well plus I would've scored extra for some older things that weren't on the test. I mean, I would have cleaned up if...

Have you ever used a DEC PDP-11 computer? Yes
.. With a punch card reader? Yes
Have you ever used a VAX computer? Yes
.. Installed an OS upgrade on a VAX computer? Yes
.. Called DEC tech support to correct the OS upgrade installation instructions during the upgrade? Yes
Do you own a slide rule? Yes
More than one? Yes
More than five? Yes
Do you know how to use them? Yes

sycamore has obviously never done anything cool, like watched MST3K.

(I got major points, I think, mostly for all the computer stuff and my love of history/learning. No Star Trek though.)

15.38462% - Geek

Not as high as I feared, but not as low as I hoped. Turn turn turn.

perth 11-04-2003 04:20 PM

Not sure I should admit this:

55.22682% - Extreme Geek

Though that really might be high. Items like "I collect comic books" probably assume I have a basement full of carefully collected and stored comics. I don't. I buy them, read them, toss them in a box and let them sit until I decide to read them again. I only collect them in the sense that I could never bear to part with them.

I admit I'm a geek, but "extreme geek" might be taking it a bit too far.

OnyxCougar 11-04-2003 04:43 PM

38.6587870% - Major Geek.

I don't have permission on this computer to install java... :( freaking netadmins *winks at coliano* so I can't hit the cool google search thingy.

Really Perth... you can come over here and LAN sometime, but only if you turn off the stupid fake lightsabre. You can bring it but don't switch it on. Only one warning or you will be banned from the server room.

perth 11-04-2003 05:10 PM

Well, I can take comfort in the fact that wolf's got me beat.

And I don't need to bring the lightsaber as long as I can make lightsaber noises.

Anyone catch the new Simpsons this week? The one when Bart gets the time-stopper watch?

I love when they're coming after him and Millhouse, and they've got shotguns, shovels, axes ... but the fat comic-book dude (I forget his name) has a lightsaber. I laughed so hard at that for absolutely no reason.

Hell Test

209 - I'm going straight to hell. Sort of makes me wonder if Bruce and I failed to participate in the same areas...some of them were a bit over the top. For example, bestiality has never intrigued me, nor necrophelia, and I've never been in a bar fight.

I guess you could get more points, but there is no higher category than "Going Straight to Hell".

Which he is actually only able to use because he broke the plastic overwrap in that episode where he kidnaps Bart and Lisa and Lucy Lawless ...

(how I got such a high score is now explained ... general geeking versus focused geeking. AND I got the five extra points for being a chick-geek.)

You are starting from an incorrect assumption that Bill Gates is in fact a Geek. If he were, Windows would be opensource.

He is merely Satan.

Yeah, the pictures are classic. But better than that, I think, is the text. Maybe its just me, but people who get all upset and offended by a word like "fuck" just crack me up.

I can't remember which Scott Adams book it is, but he paints a funny picture about how certain words might have been made "bad". He described a dark smoke filled room full of shadowy men, reading a list of words. They get to the word "pud" and one of them gasps and faints. They mark the word off and move on.

He told it way better. If i can figure out which book it was, I'll post it. Worth picking up just for that passage.

Elspode 11-05-2003 02:04 PM

I just went through the 20 questions again, with "witch" as the thing I was thinking of. After stumping it (it has very different ideas about witches than I do), I told it what my topic was. It came back with its 'uncommon knowledge' items, and one of them was 'Is it made out of wood", to which it says "yes".

I think the AI has been watching too many Monty Python films.

He he. :D It seems to think you might have big ears and smell bad too, but I think that's doubtful.

The AI is pretty freaky though. It guessed I was thinking about an iMac in 20 questions. I'm getting kind of addicted to it.

Thats been an issue here as well. My 7 year old likes adult Crest orange flavor... worth a shot.

SteveDallas 11-05-2003 05:28 PM

Hmmm I'll try it.. never seen that... they don't like the mint of most adult ones, and all of the kids ones (except for the Tweety Bird Berry Flavor from Colgate) are bubblegum flavor of some kind, and they don't like that either.

You had comic books, Buck Rogers Space Guns, and crystal radio sets ...

Bruce, your doodads collection ALONE should have gathered you like 20% additional geekiness. The problem is in the test, not your fine self.
