Love it man!

This is getting closer...

I think I'll just put the 8 on the face of the box. Making the assumption that the mailman knows what street he's on...

I've joined some lovely book matched flamed maple that I can mount kind of like a plaque, once I rout the edge...

If I center the 8...

Sanding and staining it red in a tasteful kind of way....

Maybe she'll let me hang it out front near the door...

Griff 02-05-2020 06:20 AM

That's gonna look sharp, I think.

I agree, the number is enough for the mailman mailperson postal carrier.

Nice job, beautiful wood, hope that 8 doesn't turn into a snek in the full moon.

That looks really good.

Did you find yourself reaching for all kinds of different tools to figure out which ones would work best? I'm impressed at how flat it is in the center of the circles.

Be careful some guy on the next street may try to steal it.

Lots of dremel bits. I got the best result with a spiral cutter and my plunge base that turns the dremel into a mini router. Then smoothed it with a very sharp chisel.

I used the other end of the piece I carved to give it some more depth.

And recessed the hinges

Stacking them like that really dresses it up. I thought it looked good before, but looking back, it looks pretty lame compared to how it pops now.

Well done!

So your house number is just 8? No other numbers?

lumberjim 02-05-2020 09:16 PM

Um.. Yeah?

The highest number I've ever had was 1124, but the others were 40, 16 and 10.

Some day I'll live at 1 Hekm Rd. #oldrichwhiteguy

hopefully by that time your spelling will improve or your eyesight will deteriorate

I thought this might look good...

But Amanda exercised her veto powers, so...

Experimenting with color on the maple and birch.

Clodfobble 02-05-2020 09:26 PM

I've never had a house with less than 4 numbers. Our current one has 5.
