Well done, classic! Do you have a cork cutter too? Do you keep it sharp?

classicman 12-05-2011 01:46 PM

Yep! Gotta be sharp or they don't work worth squat!

I have a whole set of cork drills that get used very infrequently so I sharpen them before each use.

This is not a cork cutter but looks very much like one.

And this is how you would use the sharpener to sharpen the cork cutter.

Do you soak the cork?

infinite monkey 12-05-2011 02:05 PM

I have mostly used mine on rubber corks. They obviously need no soaking.
The last time I used them on real cork was about 20 years ago when I made my own fishing rod with real cork grips.
That was a major PITA. I think it was pre-soaked or something cuz it wasn't dry. But I honestly don't remember.

Undertoad 12-05-2011 02:41 PM

So you're not a cork soaker.

Clodfobble 12-05-2011 03:00 PM

My mom has thought on an off over the years about getting cork flooring. But I don't think little circles are ever involved.

My Mum told me if you get a thorn in your hand you should always soak it.

I see it answers the question nicely, but it is something of a thread ender. "Hey, look. Got it? Ok. Move on." meh. It was a creative idea. I was trying to continue the conversation.

I didn't know when I might get back to it, so, I went ahead and provided the answer.
