Mr. Clean Magic Eraser: crayon scribbles off the surface of an LCD TV...
--Gently! I read they are made of something like fiberglass, formed into a micro-fine "sandpaper"

I read something about them being harmful in some way. I chose to ignore this information and continue erasing in blissful ignorance.

I am pretty much with you on this. They do the thing I want them to do. Invisible damage is better than visible, something.

I suppose that using Kindle in place of heavy, expensive textbooks is an idea I can get behind. But that's it.

I think the textbook thing will be huge. I'm a paper guy as well. The kids, however, can have dozens of books at their fingertips wherever they are. They just spent a week with their Gramma in the mountains and were never without reading material. The "classics" are cheaper than Chinese peasants so between crappy young teen vampire novels they can knock down some Jack London. I was resistant but... :borg:

If it gets them to read, it can't be all bad.

This:

Detours Toocan bike panniers. They cost $60 each. they are almost top of the range for your regular mom-on-a-bike. I got a rack strong enough to take them that cost $40, and one of these. Then another. They are indestructible. I'm you're regular cheapskate walmart shopper, but the wat i load up my bike, I've killed several racks and panniers. These rock. Right now my luggage system cost half as much as the bike. But i can load it up as unevenly as I want ans still cruise no hands. Awesome.

(they come with a rain cover and that waterproof, throwing-on-the-floor-proof rubber base is invaluable for a swim mom who regularly driops her bags on deck, wanders off to deal with something and comes back to find the big kids dove in and displacd the pool water onto the deck right where i put my stuff)

Re: the Kindle business... more and more of the stuff we buy does not allow us to have complete control over how we use it. Just the latest example....

Oh, put a sock in it, grandpa! Don't you have a horse to shoe?

glatt 07-20-2009 02:23 PM

He would, but Acme took their anvil back.
