To take nothing at all away from Perlman, whose tone is gorgeous, but he's not exactly playing a walmart violin. |

Yeah, this probably isn't great music.
But it's good pop. And it's on youtube. So I can indulge without shame. Stumbled on another one of his (Darius Danesh) songs earlier, and it brought it all back. Moving to Leicester, still in love with the evil ex, working 60 hours a week, driving home after a late night supermarket shift (5 hours before having to get up and work in an office) and singing along to this album at the top of my voice. When I was in funds I might stop for a kebab. When I wasn't I'd be terrified that I didn't have enough petrol to get home. If I was asked at the time if I was happy I might have hesitated. In hindsight... Well, that's why this song puts a lump in my throat, I don't expect anyone else to revere it the way I do. But tomorrow I'll be singing, "I am incredible, I am amazing" just to cheer myself up... Of course that's what I used to sing! |
Everything Everything - MY KZ, YR BF
At first you think it's overproduced dance-pop, but then it suddenly becomes secretly complicated, traditional Manchester scene with lyrics like poetry. I'm not sure the video adds anything to the song: And I wanna know what happened to your boyfriend Cos he was looking at me like "woah..!" Yeah right before the kitchen was a dustbowl And tossing me the keys and I can't forget how everything just coming through the windows and half the street was under my nails it's like we sitting in the Faraday cage, when the lights all failed I fly through the walls all pieces colliding and i see raymond apart he'a a frowning now, wagging a finger at me "boy!" his knees bend the other way and "boy! boy!" are you guys together honey? "b..b..boy!" oh but now i can't find his torso, mmhmmhmm i guess you're separated ooh, It's like I'm watching the A4 paper taking over the guillotine Monica i just wanna know...ooh It's like I'm watching the A4 paper taking over the guillotine |
I agree, the video's not right. I wasn't really digging it until I tried closing my eyes for a second, and then it was a totally different song. Good stuff.
Edit: And now I am sad because they do not have an album I can consider purchasing. Three iTunes downloads seems to be all there is for now. |
Mark-Almond Band -- The City
From the 70s after Jon Mark and Johnny Almond left John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. (I think they both played with Mayall and the Bluesbreakers the same time as Clapton in the mid-late 60s). |
Yeah this Everything Everything is just breaking, and they should have an album out in the future. This is also the case with that Rox I enjoyed so much.
|
It's like they're running prog-era Genesis code under a Duran Duran UI.
|
live zeppelin from 1979.....right near the end...makes me feel some times......as an eagle leaves the nest.... |
Oh that Everything Everything one is excellent. Wonder if they took their name from the Underworld album. Would have been big on the scene round about when these guys were forming their musical tastes.
Talking of which.... |

Rox got to do a turn on Later with Jools Holland, so here's "My Baby Left Me" live. It's not soul, it's not pop, it's both - with a bit of funk thrown in for good measure. No lip synching needed, this chick can sing.

Ryan Adams
Oh My Sweet Carolina On the CD Heartbreaker he does an amazing version of this song with Emmylou Harris |
This song caught my attention when it popped up on one of my Pandora stations.

After all that funk, I fancy something soaring:)
I don't think I posted in the celeb deaths thread when Murray Gold died earlier this year. I really should have. He was an amazing composer. He was responsible for the music of Doctor Who. This piece is called Song of Captivity and Freedom. The vocalist has the most wonderful voice. It's a beautiful piece of music. Doesn't matter if you've never watched/heard of the Doctor. This is a stunning piece. And from the previous series soundtrack (I may have posted this one before, but i can't recall and I want to post it again :P) This Is Gallifrey: Our Childhood Home, as performed live at the Proms. This shows, I think, the class of Murray Gold's work. He's such a loss. |
I've heard a lot about the Dr. Who show, but have never seen it. As I understand it, there were two Dr. Who series. The music was very nice. If the show is as good as the music, I have really missed out.

Classic Doctor Who ran from the early 60s until the late 80s. Was revived for a movie in the mid 90s with a co-production between BBC and an American network. That was not picked up and the hoped for series didn't happen. The franchise continued in books and comic strips for about another 10 years and then a new Who was launched in 2005; this time with the BBC pouring money into the project and giving the team pretty much free reign. Everything prior to 2005 is considered Classic Doctor Who, everything after is New Doctor Who. They are stylistically very different, primarily because of the budget and the fact that it's come out of a different era with different sensibilities. But the character is a continuation of the original. It is still essentially the same story (a time traveling and ancient alien who picks up companions as he travels) but with a slightly different flavour.
In the new show the character and backstory have become much darker, with the Doctor now the last of his kind and (it's hinted) responsible for the genocide of his own race, whom he sacrificed as the only way to stop their enemy the Daleks, who'd have wiped out all life in the universe (etc etc). It's a fun kids show though at heart. Occasionally silly, occasionally challenging. Nice sense of legend and mythos. The fact that it's been going for 46 years ( I think) means it has gathered many layers. |

Presuming you are familiar with Beyonce's Single Ladies, you may find this amusing.

Don't know if this will be available outside the UK, but I'll try posting it and we can see :)
A little Christmas spirit courtesy of The Priests. I love these fellas, they have such beautiful voices. They're absolutely lovely in interview as well. Here they are singing my favourite Christmas hymn. Silent Night And, just because I adore this song, here they are singing Panis Angelicus: |
1.) Lovely singing voices.
2.) Are they the kind of priests that are allowed to be gay? Because they're not fooling anyone. |
*chuckles* I think they're supposed to be celibate. Liking men isn't a sin in the eyes of the Catholic Church; having sex with them is:P Though, for these boys, given that they've taken a vow of celibacy, having sex with anyone is a sin. I suppose wanting to have sex at all is probably a sin...impure thoughts and all that...but that's what absolution is all about. It's all just temptation sent to try them :P
