ETA: I may have mentioned this, but, Momdigr can pet this dove. Popdigr mows all around her and she stays put (when weedwhacking too). Weird.

Believe it or not, that was completely innocent and totally unintended. (But it does sound exactly like something I would say, I can't believe I didn't catch it.):rollanim:

dmg1969 05-28-2010 06:42 AM

Thanks skysidhe.

That's OK Gravdigr...I missed it too. LOL! Thanks.

Shawnee123 05-28-2010 09:15 AM

Grav, I totally thought you meant it as a pun. You're punny even when you don't realize it! That gets a A+

I'm always amazed at the talented people here. Nice pictures.

I just got back from a trip with my Dad to Boston to see my step-brother. My Dad wanted to visit the heavy cruiser USS Salem (CA-139)...the sister ship to the USS Newport News (CA-148), on which he served. A few photos (of the hundreds I took on the trip)...

Wow Jinx you are going to be a pro at macro! :)

@dmg1969> Nothing better than a big gun!

HungLikeJesus 06-08-2010 02:34 PM

dmg, were you able to fit your head in the barrel?

Gravdigr 06-08-2010 05:34 PM

Nice pics dmg. I've been on the USS Alabama, and the big ones are impressive. My only specific memory: Stenciled on the protective gunner's shields were the words "LEAD, DAMMIT, LEAD".

dmg1969 06-09-2010 07:04 AM

Thanks, classic.
Nirvana...agreed.
HLJ, I'm sure it would have been close had they not been sealed.
Gravdigr, the Alabama is a beautifully preserved battleship. They are awesome to check out if you can. One pic I took that i thought was interesting was a placard of what to do in case of an "atomic attack".

dmg1969 06-09-2010 12:06 PM

A few photos from the cruise my brother and I took around Boston Harbor. You launch from a dock in the Quincy shipyards, go to Logan Airport, over to Boston and then back to Quincy.

Looks really nice. They don't seem to build them the way they used to.

dmg1969 06-09-2010 03:11 PM

I'm thinking around noon. :D

You are right...those are some very interesting architectural features and colors. Did you take note of the building behind the clock tower building? It almost reminds me of something you'd see in the middle east.

Some how I get the feeling this old fellow has settled down for a well-deserved rest.

HungLikeJesus 06-13-2010 10:41 AM

Do you mean the tree, or is there something in that little root-cave?

Lamplighter 06-13-2010 10:49 AM

The tree, because floods redirected it's growth several times but it kept on keeping on.

Tilt shift processing makes stuff look like it's a model. I think I posted about this before elsewhere in the cellar, but I just made another one from an image I took.

squirell nutkin 06-16-2010 01:06 PM

cool, I wonder if I have that plugin.

glatt 06-16-2010 01:33 PM

if you don't, you can upload the source picture to the website I linked and then download the resulting image.

Looking at photos two pages back. Lots of great shots! esp. that tree!

One day I was sitting with my back to the window and on my bedroom door is a shadow of my cat looking out the window. I was so intrigued I tried to get the perfect shot but this little camera is grainy and didn't capture the detail or the contrast depth. I still think it's neat though. I kept it just for the memory of it and to remind myself to try again sometime.

Just fiddling with this new camera while waiting for someone one day. It has such a grainy quality about it I find annoying but for practicing taking pictures I figures a small investment was best. I liked the clouds.

lumberjim 06-19-2010 02:06 PM

Is that through your windshield tint at the top? looks deep.

what kind of a camera is it? if you have upwards of 3mpx, you can usually take a high enough quality shot to enable you to do good things in post production programs like photoshop to make good pics.

HungLikeJesus 06-19-2010 02:14 PM

There's an interesting range of blues.

skysidhe 06-19-2010 02:48 PM

To the both of you.
Yes it is the windshield tint.

I have a Finepix 10mp with 3x zoom. I got it cheap for 68 dollars. I thought it was the funky design being discontinued but I now see it is selling for 149.
http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-FineP...=pd_cp_p_1_img

I would have thought it would do a better job than my cell phone. I probably don't have the functions down yet. I am not exactly disappointed with it yet on that account.

I know you are right. Tinkering with a photo program will help. I have ordered the serif. I hope it does sharpen the images up a little. That and with my acquainting myself with the camera's features. As a wannabe newbie I didn't want to spend very much to begin with.

There are so many great cameras around 200 -350. Too many for a novice to decide so I just bought a cheap-o hoping it would be better than just OK.

edit- I had at one time messed with the ISO setting. I'll read up on that and see if I can correct the grainy factor.

Undertoad 06-19-2010 05:20 PM

J's brother has two hobbies... auto racing, and fostering guide dogs for the blind.

I love this picture.

Sky, I like that shot a lot, the graininess actually looks intentional.
