The lesser known PDQ Bach may well be classic, but I'm less sure about classical.

Baroque-a-go-go, maybe.

She was young! She was pure! She was new! She was nice!
She was fair! She was sweet seventeen!
He was old! He was vile and no stranger to vice!
He was base! He was bad! He was mean!
He had slyly inveigled her up to his flat
To view his collection of stamps,
And he said as he hastened to put out the cat,
The wine, his cigar and the lamps:

'Have some Madeira, m'dear!
You really have nothing to fear;
I'm not trying to tempt you-that wouldn't be right.
You shouldn't drink spirits at this time of night;
Have some Madeira, m'dear!
It's very much nicer than Beer;
I don't care for Sherry, one cannot drink Stout,
And Port is a wine I can well do without;
It's simply a case of Chacun a son GOUT!
Have some Madeira, m'dear!'

Unaware of the wiles of the snake in the grass,
Of the fate of the maiden who topes,
She lowered her standards by raising her glass,
Her courage, her eyes-and his hopes.
She sipped it, she drank it, she drained it, she did;
He quietly refilled it again
And he said as he secretly carved one more notch
On the butt of his gold-handled cane:

'Have some Madeira, m'dear!
I've got a small cask of it here,
And once it's been opened you know it won't keep.
Do finish it up-it will help you to sleep;
Have some Madeira, m'dear!
It's really an excellent year;
Now if it were Gin, you'd be wrong to say yes,
The evil Gin does would be hard to assess
(Besides, it's inclined to affect m' prowess!)
Have some Madeira, m'dear!'

Then there flashed through her mind what her mother had said
With her antepenultimate breath:
'Oh, my child, should you look on the wine when 'tis red
Be prepared for a fate worse than death!'
She let go her glass with a shrill little cry.
Crash, tinkle! it fell to the floor.
When he asked: 'What in heaven ... ?' she made no reply,
Up her mind and a dash for the door.

'Have some Madeira, m'dear!'
Rang out down the hall loud and clear.
A tremulous cry that was filled with despair,
As she paused to take breath in the cool midnight air;
'Have some Madeira, m'dear!'
The words seemed to ring in her ear
Until the next morning she woke up in bed,
With a smile on her lips and an ache in her head-
And a beard in her earhole that tickled and said:
'Have some Madeira, m'dear!'

Hard to get any better than this, really.

I'm not familiar with it. Hmm. Just checked -- it's out of print. I'll try to get a copy from one of my buddies.

However, I think it'd be hard to outdo Cannonball Adderly's "Something Else". No showboating, just good music.

Haha, yes! Which song?

EDIT: and of course, everyone knows that theres no need for the non-shred bits anyway, so your brother has the right idea

I'm not really surprised, but it's still hilarious that you knew what song I was talking about (that's my caveman transcription that I actually take notes in). Yes, I agree it's the best track on the album. I'll have to order a new copy of that CD. I can't find a decent bitrate copy on any p2p sites.
That, and Missing Persons - Spring Sessions M, and Triumph - Thunder Seven.

I thought it sounded kind of Black Star-ish. But I haven't unleashed the fooking fury in a long time.

Edit: played Blackstar, now I remember how it goes

Saw him and George Lynch a year ago. He weighed about 300 pounds, but he could still kick his leg up to his head (which he did about every 15 seconds -- I don't see how he could burn that many calories and stay that big).

Flint 10-24-2006 09:50 AM

My brother saw Yngwie in concert, he said he was a Spandex Enormity!

mrnoodle 10-24-2006 10:14 AM

hahahaahaha M.O.D. :devil: We listened to that tape (the only way to listen to M.O.D.) at a barbeque about 2 months ago. It brought back high school in a big way.

Tales of Brave Ulysses - Cream

I love this song in a way I can't fully explain...

Griff 10-25-2006 12:16 PM

Blues Traveler explained why... but it still works.

Music & lyrics: john popper

It doesnt matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that Ill convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection
But Ive said nothing so far
And I can keep it up for as long as it takes
And it dont matter who you are
If Im doing my job then its your resolve that breaks

Because the hook brings you back
I aint tellin you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

There is something amiss
I am being insincere
In fact I dont mean any of this
Still my confession draws you near
To confuse the issue I refer
To familiar heroes from long ago
No matter how much peter loved her
What made the pan refuse to grow

Was that the hook brings you back
I aint tellin you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Suck it in suck it in suck it in
If youre rin tin tin or anne boleyn
Make a desperate move or else youll win
And then begin
To see
What youre doing to me this mtv is not for free
Its so pc its killing me
So desperately I sing to thee
Of love
Sure but also rage and hate and pain and fear of self
And I cant keep these feelings on the shelf
Ive tried well no in fact I lied
Could be financial suicide but Ive got too much pride inside
To hide or slide
Ill do as Ill decide and let it ride until Ive died
And only then shall I abide this tide
Of catchy little tunes
Of hip three minute ditties
I wanna bust all your balloons
I wanna burn all of your cities
To the ground Ive found
I will not mess around
Unless I play then hey
I will go on all day hear what I say
I have a prayer to pray
Thats really all this was
And when Im feeling stuck and need a buck
I dont rely on luck because...

The hook brings you back
I aint tellin you no lie
The hook...
On that you can rely
