Actually, when I went to pick Sally up they had a goat at the pound for rehoming. I was wondering how they come by those sorts of animals. lol

Sally is spending the day on the chain till Aden gets home to fix the fence. She's got another few hours to go yet. Maybe it will help her with the lesson she needs to learn.

Ordinarily I'd give her a bath and bring her inside, but today I feel too sick to be bothered, so she'll just have to suffer.

TWIL's dog is part antelope, part Houdini, part fence climbing monkey, purebred recidivist. It is regrettable that he has to spend his time outside cabled to the dog line. Sucks.

Still.... better than being scraped off the pavement with a shovel, eh?

The bad news is I have lived here in Seattle for years and no one's told me about HazardFactory's Power Tool Drag Races. I told you guys I'm way more careful than that barbarian Conan. I can totally handle this. Just look at these categories:

Quote:

Powertool Drag Race Award Categories.

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS: Our celebrated and highly competitive catagory of over-inspired and woe-fully underplannned racetools.

JESUS BUILT MY HOTROD: Im gonna dang a lang lang my lang a long ling long. Faster than logic!

GOING THE DISTANCE: Still driving and striving http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zStIm0gNnUw

ZOMG!: Stupid is faster than thinking.

TITANIC: The Epic Fail award. Go big or go Home (and put some ice on that).

MISS GEORGETOWN: Style, poise, Charisma, copious Bribes, my car keys, She’s got it all!

A GESTURE OF GOODWILL: AKA the Beltway award. AKA the Halliburton, AWARDED FOR BEST BRIBES.

SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT: Best halftime show, best presentation, or best team, bringing spunk to the masses.

THE HUNGER GAINS: Survivor of the deathrace.
The other bad news is I've missed this year's race. June 12th, I'm sure I was available that day. I could have buzzed right over after the Lutefisk Orgy.

The good news is I now have TEN MONTHS TO PREPARE MY RACER!!! BOO-YAH!!

The other good news is Flaming Tetherball!

For those of you who reflexively shout “SAFETY THIRD” congratulations; for the rest, bear in mind that most sports have started as this kind of dumb thing people do, think of say, polo, jousting, golf, boxing, curling, bowling, and baseball, which at some point develops a few basic tenets which help keep the stack of bodies from obstructing the view and or preventing the athletes from developing any real skill as thier injury rate is too high.
I can't fucking wait!

He's gone native.

Sad.

bad news--at Twil's house a couple weeks ago, a tall, heavy, dead tree in the backyard of a neighbor broke and almost smashed into her house. notice the chain link fence just to the left of the wooden trellis/gate.

Attachment 41917

good news--it was a glancing blow so the house isn't seriously hurt.

bad news--it was raining steadily as I cut it into pieces. I didn't finish until after dark.

Attachment 41918

good news--didn't hurt myself.

bad news--at 4:19 this morning another large section of the trunk with large branches came down. the yellow post on the far left is a 4x4. #2 is about 10 inches in diameter, and #3 is about 20 inches in diameter.

Attachment 41920

good news--this piece also missed the house as far as I can tell.

bad news--it didn't miss the fence though. this piece dealt the coup de grace to the fence. just past the fence is the hole where the top of the tree speared into the ground.

"...the top of the tree speared into the ground."

That's perfect wording.

We've had trees come down, and seeing where a broken limb
has "speared" as much as four feet into the ground gives me the willies.

I'm glad your trees only gave a close shave to the house. Good karma.
It could have been much worse.

I am glad only the fence got wacked ,
i hope the neighbor has ins or os going to do the right thing and fix her fence , oh and V go Cut the REST of that fucker down , or Hire a tree service to do it and hand them the bill

The good news is, I'm back from a short hiatus.

The bad new is, I'm back from a short hiatus.

It just depends who you are. Take your pick. :/

The good news is, semester is almost over - only a week to go.

The bad news is, semester is almost over - three final exams, one lab, two major papers due, and only a week to go :worried:

(And more good news is: Ali, you're back! :) )

right, right. upon reflection, I should have given top billing to the good news that I was not hurt. because I was aaaallll over that area cutting up the first downfall where you now see more trunks. I had no ideal I was walking around in the landing zone. more specifically, I had no idea the tree was that fragile. the night the second part came down, it wasn't windy at all. it was raining heavily, but just straight down. I think it must have become so saturated and so heavy that it leaned and cracked and fell with a crash.

Seriously. I would have been killed.

ZenGum 12-04-2012 10:51 PM

I reckon trees know not to mess with Big V when he's got the chainsaw out. :D

Lamplighter 12-04-2012 11:33 PM

They must think it's better to fall down than to be cut down.

Good news: strong Google-fu led me to find the specific wine that my grandmother was adamant must be used to yield my great-grandmother's famous Christmas cookies, pastissettes. I have been on the search for this wine for about 8 years, and have never found it in any liquor store. I was starting to think I must have written it down incorrectly, or that my grandmother was somehow wrong. But I found it today online!

Bad news: ...they don't make the wine anymore.

ETA:
Good news: further google-fu reveals that there was a 2011 vintage of this wine! Yes! It DOES exist!

Bad news: ...but bottles run $15-$30. And apparently only exist in Germany, Spain, and Italy. Sigh.
