yes.
I can scan, (I used the HPsmrtwhatev to check it was working as a scanner) but not from paint.net |
I realize it's the only printer/scanner; but, have you set it as the default so that Paint.net might recognize it rather than the old one?
|
If HP Support Assistant has updated your Printer/Scanner and all of the available Scanner Drivers are installed, then I suppose you have to look to Paint.net for answers. I'm running WIN10 on an HP and have a HP Printer/Scanner like you; but, I don't have Paint.net.
I can tell you Microsoft Paint 3D, which comes with WIN10, doesn't scan from the app. OTOH, the original Microsoft Paint, that also comes with WIN10, does. |

I expected them both to show, though, like they do for print :/ |
You'll find that even though the printer and scanner are in one package, they each have their own drivers and have to be treated separately. There's also a WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) driver that has to be current to connect scanners with apps. I've read that this driver is necessary for Paint.net to interface with scanners.
You can download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP for free (I have it) and running it will correct a lot of those kinds of things automatically. I think(?) it can also be run right from the HP website without downloading. |
thanks :) I will investigate those suggestions tomorrow. I did install separately as printer and scanner, but it's not unlikely I fucked up.

I got it! I just needed to restart the computer yet again! (if in doubt, turn it off and on again ;) ) thanks

If anyone ever asks what your turn-offs and turn-ons are, you've got a one word answer for both... computer!
